I think you may have misinterpreted, piracy is bad, but who cares? Think of it as resourcefulness, and i advocate that.

Im not so sure. Maybe of games. But on world basis more people buy music now, than earlier

Well actually even that has been bypassed. But let's stay on topic here. Anyone with release dates for RE4 and DMC 3? I know Oni 3 is cominng out early feb as per the UBI version, play.com i don't trust with march 31, either that or i'm in denial.

i agree mostly with your post except this point. i choose which games to pirate all the time. the games i have anticipated for a long time, i pre-order, get the collectors edition, whatnot. mostly games from smaller developers(anything troika, rip) and with longer lifespans(civ4). those games which i know i will play for 5 hours and throw away and which will be hugely popular no matter if i buy it or not(most new fps games) i pirate. anyways i have the re4 gamecube collectors edition and will be most probably buying the pc ver. when it comes down in price(paying 60 dollars each for 2 vers is kinda ridiculous).

LOoks like the Ubi onimusha version might be redone in terms of menus, startup and interface (ie. no console residue like "press triangle"), however there is a portion of the game where you must look at the actual ps2 gamepad to enter in a sequence (like the game simon with the colours and you must remember which they are in what order) so i don't know how they may fix that. The release date is the 24 th of this month, so we'll know soon enough. DMC and RE stands at march 31. It's a quick wait.

Well i think it's a little obvious that it can't be identical overall, they'll have to configure controls and inputs for the ports. Graphically it will be identical, with the chance of higher resolution. Let's hope it will have good gamepad support.

But keep in mind that ubisoft is a very reputable company, they are going to put their name on this game, and in turn must uphold their reputation as always. Therefore,i think there is a certain expectiation that these ports will be half decent. Even thought they aren't porting it over, they can still pressure Capcom to make sure its third party "porters" do a good job as to avoid conflict and troubleshooting when the game ships. That's what makes sense to me.

and for their sake and our sake, we may end up seeing Dawn of Dreams and DMC 4 on PC as well. Introducing third person action games based on japanese anime style to the PC is great (however i'm sure they have already been introduced). I find i cannot play DMC 3 on TV because i'm spoiled graphics whore and i like seeing the fine details. Capcom should definately continue to port stuff over, and looks like it will as you can sort of consider this as a "partnership" with ubisoft. I guess the success of these ports will determine any further action. But looks like the PC community is really hyped up about RE4, which will probably be the driving force behind both companies' revenue on the PC.

Well halo worked remarkably well with a controller, i was skeptical at first, but then surprised. The important thing for these releases is that the control scheme is fully customizable, unlike path of neo which was a nightmare with a gamepad. But it looks as though it will be customizable, as onimusha 3 would let you change the controls for the gamepad, and it would be no surprise if all the ports should be done in this way. Hopefully they make nicer menus (for control config), get rid of the mouse pointer, and make the game run full screen. |
iirc though ahlo had the auto targetiing thing which is ok on controller. halo2 is a fucking nightmare by contrast with the controller.

Shucks. I just got a used ps2 and was going to buy these badboys used. I'm guessing 'll get res evil for PC and DMC 3 SE for Playstation 2, depending what i get it for first. Nice to see UBI finally publicising the info and directing some attention towards these releases. If it's starforce though.... i'll just get it for PS2.
