Do you like 3rd person fighting games? With a Yakuza story? Then try it, the Fitgirl repack is 11gb

oh sorry, i've been awake for 27 hours haha
i meant to say that the start is always pretty boring because they're still setting things up and easing new players in, but then it starts to really ramp up around the 3rd chapter or so
been a fan since the first game
my ps3 only got used for yakuza, persona, and rdr.
yakuza is definitely up there in my list such that when it came out on pc, i gifted it to a bunch of people and i'm pretty excited for judgment
but that said, it's not for everyone

Yeah like AKofC says, the start is frustrating/boring because it feels like the typical long and slow introduction/tutorial like most JP games. Especially when you played some Yazuka games before.
There was this constant feeling of: Yeah, Yeah, I know... get me to the better part already.

It's a shame that the world's design is so artificially constricted (invisible walls, invisible walls everywhere) and static/noninteractive, because the story involving all them hard-nosed upstanding Yakuza men seems really fascinating.
The arcade brawling is fun as well, the quick time events and mini-games...not so much for me. I'll keep playing it though, there's a lot of charm to it and tons of absurdly unpredictable characters
xDBS wrote: | How well does it play with KB/Mouse? |
I'd say it's playable, albeit not optimal since it's designed for gamepads (the mouse sensitivity for example will always be sluggish no matter the settings used).
If anything though, this game is triggering that inner desire for a Sleeping Dogs 2..the one that sadly will never happen :'(

You can't compare this game to Sleeping dogs, that was a good game, I was just thinking of going at it again, to clear this bad game out of my mind.
It is a game for people that like Japanese style games with absurd childish humor that only Japanese people find funny. I grew out of that kind of humor when I was a child, now when I hear it, it just feels stupid.
But to each its own.

Anarchos:
so basically: “lol my sense of humor is superior to yours , you all are childish”
And yeah only similarity with SD are similar themes, premise of the story and locale , gameplay wise its a bit elsewhere
Morphi:
naah that would be boring , sad and totally countraproductive when you (will) have kids of your own. Especially with some people saying playing videogames is childish and immature

No I was speaking for myself, I don't like that kind of humor, it feels forced, just for the sake of it. As you said some people like it, good for them. I guess I don't like Japanese game design too, because humor was not the only thing that I didn't like about this game, the stupid mini games that feel forced too (out of place), the fighting, the open world that is not really open...

yeah the world you need is "semi-open world" ... i would maybe compre the style to jRPGs/ spectacle fighters aka small areas to explore with random encouters or quests that take you to "battle arena" for fights

yeah but the way you worded it made it more sound like, "i'm speaking for myself when i say you are all childish idiots for not sharing my sense of humor"

Ye i too dropped this game a few months ago, i played lots of chinese and japanese games, and set on china and japan, like sleeping dogs or shenmue among others, but those games were "mature" , this game as others said, rely on japanese humor, some ppl will like it obviously, ppl like all kinds of things, to me its an inferior kind of humor and its very easy humor and childish, just like i consider the humor produced by ben stiller to be very diferent to something produced by adam sandler, the latter is much more childish and not my cup of tea.
But it doesnt have to do with growing out of this type of humor, i just never liked it, not even as a kid, i didnt saw adam sandler movies or watch/played japanese games with this kinda of humor, and i like japan overall, i love that setting, and also china, i loved sleeping dogs, it was a great game.
This game tries to make use of gimmicky mini games that make little sense, its hard for me to immerse myself on this semi open world, especialy when all the praise comes from this game having a split personality, i tried playing it many many times and eventualy gave up, its just not for me really, they go from 1h of serious mature cutscenes, to some random respawn encounters on the map to fight some thugs wich are all basicaly the same, to some mini game that has nothing to do with the rest of the game to pad out the content, it is a game made for japanese people, and i guess some ppl that are not japanese might like this if they are into that sort of thing.
I really wish it had a diferent direction though, but im not even sure wich, because nothing interested me particularly, not the story/cutscenes, not the combat or mini games, its just mashing those buttons, sleeping dogs had some simple but interesting combat.
Theres a reason why they feared to release these games outside japan for a long time, they werent sure if ppl would like, but it seems theres an audience for them, and thats good, i want more diferent types of games to be sucessful instead of the usual suspects even though i dont like them at all, they might be of some fun to someone else.
For example i dont like divinity or that genre of games, but im happy they sold well and found a nice market, more diversity is always good, maybe if yakuza is sucessful here, someday i will have a game set in japan that is to my taste too , one can hope

This was one of the best games I ever played, no kidding. It's content filled like no other, great story, hilarious mini side quests, top notch voice acting, satisfying combat and more.
Too bad Sega abandoned patching the game as it still has technical issues that they do not want to acknlowledge.
Nevertheless it was more than worth the money, I hope that Kiwami will hit PC soon and that it will be as enjoyable as 0.

Kiwami is also great, but is still a remake of the 1st game so there's less content over all.
Which is why I recommend Kiwami first (or the original if possible) before 0 for new comers. It also introduces you to Mad Dog Majima, which IMO makes his story in 0 a lot more interesting.
Because let's face it. 0 was Majima's game.
They could have done away with Kiryu and just put in more Majima content.
I'm hoping after Judgment, they release a 0-2 or something that is purely Majima.

A lot of those additions and behind the scenes fixes were probably stuff they had done for the new game coming out and since both use the same engine it was easy enough to add to this previous game. Still nice though since I got this with the Humble Monthly and just recently started to play it as I was a big fan of the series on PS2 and PS3 so it is nice to get back into this game world.

I thought I'd enjoy this series a lot but my time spent with it was more of an awkward 50/50 love-hate relationship. I was loving the story and the unique characters; the way the gameplay and actual missions are structured along with the consolish style/controlling method on the other hand weren't quite my cup of sake sadly and just lost interest after 15 hours or so. Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

what a shit game.. played for 2.5-3h i noticed now that it never saved once and i have to restart. uninstalled.
overall if felt really cheap with the still images and no animations for speech, way too many cinematics, its like 60% cinematics (which are mediocre due to how cheaply it's done), 40% game, if even that. also invisible walls everywhere. The arcade fighting with button combos sucked ass too.
