Quote: | Can we expect something similar to the work done on Morrowind, in terms of that style of game experience?
Pete Hines: Again, it's early to say, but it wouldn't be a leap of faith to say that we plan to use technologies in development otherwise. You could make some fairly safe leaps of faith that it would be similar in style. We're not going to go away from what it is that we do best. We're not going to suddenly do a top-down isometric Baldur's Gate-style game, because that's not what we do well. |
At least bethesda has self knowledge, they are only good in making nice 3d enviroments, but their gameplay sucks. I don't think they are able to make a game like fallout, storytelling and creating nice quests isn't their game. (go to village A to deliver letter x at the other end of the map

That's pretty much how I feel about Bethesda getting the Fallout license too--they can't help but screw it up because they've never made a game which even is in the ballpark of the quality of FO or FO2. Odds are they will use some half-assed adaptation of the Oblivion stat/level system instead of SPECIAL, traits, and feats too.

3d and isometric in a new engine, why not?
I like turnbased gaming (fallout, jagged alliance ).
Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights or KotoR were "kind of" dynamic - per Spacebar,
and the Graphics were more than okay
Anyway, gimme a good story/atmosphere and Fallout3 will be on my playlist

beeing a fan of fallout 1 and 2 i can only recommend this game:
the fall:last days of gaia
sure it has the spirit of the old series, plus nice graphs in 3d.no turn based combat engine,i´m afraid.
first version was buggy as hell, but silver stile is releasing patches that fixed the game completily.
so if you liked fallout try this one you won´t be dissapointed
edit:
ups,forgot the link:

I remember trying that game as it was just released and was dissapointed
During the little time I tried it I noticed these things:
- You get a team way too early, I haven't even learned how to use your own character before I get lots of people to follow me
- During one of the tutorials I had to kill someone, but stupid camera wouldn't let me see his precise location, so killing him was difficult
- It was laggy as hell, my computer sure didn't like the game
- The voice acting was almost just as bad as in Black Mirror (I was playing the German version)

why buy the license to totally change the fucking game? if they are gunna make a first person rpg (not saying that they are) they dont need to waste money on the license.. fallout IS a top down isometric 2d game.. thats what sold millions of copies and fans, the gameplay wins the fans not the "vault dweller" and "vault 13" names

Yes. They've been working on the english translation for quite some time, as well as hammering out the bugs in the game (so that the english release is clean) plus trying to find a publisher. They also updated the engine for the US version of the game (seems like the german version might have been a beta)
Rumours are floating between Q2 '06 and Q1 '07. I believe its mostly done, but they're having issues with publishers.

I don't care if it's 3d or 2d, as long as it has the same feeling and the same sense of humor I'm happy.

Same here, but I wouldn't bet on it. FO3 will probably have the same kind of wikipedia dialogue as bethesdas other in-house games...

Even the German version of The Fall has not really been finished yet. Still buggy. Anyway, the guys from silver style may have a vision and ideas, unfortunately they can't make games. They produced a shitty, buggy Soldiers of Anarchy (which looked nice and was supposed to be very good) and Gorasul, an utter crap.

The devs for The Fall actually also advocate Starforce, when questioned on the forum as to why, since now that Starforce is regularly broken its no more effective than any other form of protectoin, they just insist that that is the way it is and lock the thread.
This was on my list of games to buy, not anymore.

Well, not knowing any of bethesdas previous games, I can't comment on how those games were like
