Fallout76, BF:V, Just Cause 4, TombRaider, jus to name a few more recent games. they were neither critically acclaimed nor financially succesful if im not mistaken
Indeed, although the financially successful part is all they actually care about. I think the reason that they still prefer this approach is that the blame is easier to shift in the event of a flop. If management approve a new idea and it flops, then they can be directly held accountable for the decision. If they approve a copy of a successful game and it flops, then they can weasel out of responsibility. "Market trends pointed to this being a successful approach", etc. In other words they aren't bad, their idea was great! It was just the shitty developers that made it that fucked up. Better lay off a few hundred of them, or better yet close down that studio.

How anyone would want to buy this and not play Warframe instead is beyond me.
The missions look totally bland and uninspired, hence why they do this cringe roleplay voice-chat shit that the person responsible should get fired for. Only the jetpack flying looks to be enjoyable
Warframe has 0 marketing. EA and Activision put hundreds of millions on ads, sponsoring and hype for their new games and people who see buy the games thinking its gonna be the best game ever. I bet 90% of the people who buy/bought Anthem/Destiny 2 either never heard of Warframe or think it's some low budget p2w game.
The Division and Destiny (and almost certainly Anthem) are designed intentionally with no real long term playability. They don't want you playing this game for years, they want you buying DLC and microtransactions just long enough for them to make a sequel, then they want you to play that instead.

Yeah, because Warframe missions are so exiting. You can say exactly the same about Warframe, so.....

Exactly, you are fresh new player for Warframe, you join a group, guys starts running fast like scripted bots and soon you can't keep up with them and suddenly mission complete, what a great game
It all depends on how they keep up with content. Going to need weekly/monthly stuff otherwise will get boring super fast.
Warframe lacks content once you get used to the game. Yes, there are so many frames and stuff but they feel the same..well kind of and gets a bit boring to do the same maps over and over again when the reward/items are pretty crappy compared to top 1%. You literally just grind for the Mastery Rank and not touch 99% of the stuff..which kind of sucks even with the addition of Riven mods. Now even more with all the custom building weapons ridiculing the base game weapons.
However, the good thing is, it has quite a lot of content despite being same/repetitive design, it still keeps you busy for long hours. The community is nice as well. If Anthem is 10% of what Warframe offers, it'll be okay for a while.

So far DLC/post-launch content will be free. Will be interesting to see how they keep up with the game and content.
Currently, no talks about the "end-game" other than few hints stating there will be some end game stuff at launch and more will come later.
Will be super disappointing if they follow Battlefront II roadmap and release Anthem 2 couple years later instead of supporting the same game with content.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
@Yondaime I was mostly ranting, what you wrote is super accurate.
Yeah, it's alright, I know. I wasn't really arguing against you or anything as such, just ranting a bit myself as well since I really want a great MMO-shooter hybrid and while Warframe is great (after all, I have over 500 hours in it (but have now taken a long break again) it doesn't tick that particular itch, it ticks another itch (the fast paced casual shooting itch).
I guess what I really want is just a great new type of MMORPG, whether that is a shooter MMO or a fantasy MMO with newer mechanics is irrelevant. I'm just starved for it. Maybe Warframe can eventually become something like it... I'm sure Anthem won't be it though.
Ahah I know you weren't trying to argue, that's what I was trying to say as well, damn forums and the inability to read each other's faces that comes with it !
That would definitely be great ! I long for a renewed MMORPG experience as well
No MMORPG of late has managed to grab my attention, you see the same damn gameplay mechanics in every of them, I was hopeful for Anthem at the beginning because you start imagining all it could have been.. but then you realize EA and a shadow of Bioware are behind it, and you lower your expectations since all you're going to get is some reheated full-derp experience with no soul.
I'm sure Anthem will be rather pleasant to mess around with friends, but I can't take pleasure playing something that could have been so much more and enjoy it.
MMORPG is pretty much dead genre now sadly. Less money there now for publishers. They would rather release a new game (with very similar to previous game - Destiny) for full price and more expansions.
Why milk once a decade with expansions when you can milk every 2-3 years along with expansions for less work compared to MMO game.

Unfortunately that's very much true, why spend such investment into something as ( financially ) ambitious as a MMORPG, even the uninspired ones of late, when you can make a quicker buck ? It's so blatant when you see how much success the new servers for old games maintained by 3rd parties have - such as Lineage 2 and the new EU/NA servers still bringing back the nostalgic folk + some newcomers who've heard of it.
Man, I remember being so excited about the likes of Ultima Online and all the amazing possibilities they offered, I can't believe we actually went completely backwards in terms of ambition. Silly as it is, Second Life is closer to achieving some of that ideal

You can look to The Division and Destiny for the model they will be following. 3 years max until the sequel hits is what I would be expecting. Of course that is entirely predicated on the game managing some level of financial success, which remains to be seen. The whole thing could be shut down by the end of the year and the studio closed, Bioware Montreal style.
Looking at the gameplay, i'm sort of excited for this. But then again i'm a sucker for all things with coop. Will probably nab 2 copies of this and 2 copies of division 2
It's a combat-exploration game created by a company that never made combat or exploration stellar in any of their previous games, what did you expect.
Huh?! What is Mass Effect then? Or KotOR? Not that Anthem is gonna be above average but saying Bioware has no experience in the genre is stupid.
You are saying Mass Effect's combat or exploration are great? Mass Effect was (even for the time) a mediocre shooter with an RPG progression. In Mass Effect 2 this formula evolved into a mediocre cover shooter with a dumbed down RPG progression (I haven't played the 3rd one). Mass Effect exploration was serviceable, had its good moments for sure. But while the Mako was a cool concept it had a lot of issues. Mass Effect 2 was an amalgam of 10 by 10 maps and corridor areas that held very few secrets. I don't think we can talk about solid combat or exploration here.
KotoR is a better experience exploration wise. But the combat isn't capturing the lightning fast battles of SW universe and its mechanics only work because they are copied from D&D.
This game has the most uninteresting setting ever made, you are basically Iron Man in jungle, what the fuck Game itself looks like direct copy of Destiny, this is gonna fail hard.
Perfect timing by Bungie on extricating themselves from Activision. I imagine some of their unhappy denizens were weighing up the prospect of jumping ship to The Division 2 and Anthem. Now Bungie can come out a couple of weeks before Anthem launches and detail how all the bad shit was Activision's fault and how they are going to make it better, maybe announce some new content. That would be a pretty big blow to EA.
