Nice effort, but not quite there. The film has something decidedly straight-to-video about it, so I'm not surprised it ended up being bought out by Netflix.

Is it scary, though? Yes, very. You will for sure be creeped out both by Bullock's not-quite-natural face - and the digital smoothing applied to it.

Found this: If you want to see how the monsters looked before they were cut from the film: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/8128220/bird-box-monsters-revealed-see/

Personally, I can't say I felt the need to see the entities. It even made sense to not see them, as we obviously can't go mad as the characters do, so subconsciously they would lose their power as a concept. I thought the drawings were a good enough glimpse.

Anyway, just check the link.

It looks like shit. The scariest part of Bird Box was Bullock's plastic surgery anyway.

Bird Box 5.5/10

The good:
- some good actors
- a good premise - I always love a good horror setting where the threat is unknown and the cast has to figure out what's going on (The Mist succeeded in this as well)

The bad:
- some bad actors
- some very predictable scenes
- the river seen crosscut by flashbacks just doesn't work: you know from the start that she'll end up alone. It already takes away the mystery of who will survive. It's now a question of "how does everyone else die". Really bad decision.
- the ending is rather an anti-climax
- the premise doesn't always work quite as well - especially later on

I sometimes had the feeling that they were making it up as they went along. I mean, video images can trigger it, yet footage from Europe didn't? You also clearly see that the creatures are invisible in some areas and in the car they suddenly were corporeal. Then at times, it takes a while before seeing causes people to go nuts and at certain times, even a brief view causes people to go crazy. I know it makes the threat seem more chaotic and threatening but it also feels a bit too random as if they said "now the scene requires this, so we'll just make this happen".

The end was also rather eeeh. It was bad enough that the flashbacks ruined most of the story (although I imagine the river scene would have been so horribly boring as one long part) but the end seemed so incredibly dull. Besides it being unrealistic for that many people to live on a tiny garden, it's hardly that inspiring.

Exactly. The blind people also most likely were not an autonomous community before and had their food etc delivered. Or was that an agricultural school for the blind? Laughing Oh and the leaked pictures of the monsters that they luckily cut from the movie look hilarious. Like bloated babies. Also after which resolution do those things emit the self killing rage?

And why didn't tom give the damn kids a name after seeing how cruel the mother is? Or was he also referring to them as boy and girl? How stupid. Do they think that there is an arch if you have such a simple cop out move at the last second to show "See, there was an improvement to her character, she is a better human now Smile " Laughing Go fuck yourself Bird Box. You were disappointing! The premise was alright. I love isolation and survival movies.

Seems like most of your grievances have originated from the book's plot and narrative. The kids are called "boy" and "girl", the story intercut back and forth, etc.

It's only the ending that has been very slightly changed, I copy the book ending from wikipedia:

It's a real problem with Netflix movies! They seem to love a premise and just go with it, without taking the time to flesh out the script. Fucking hell. There are a TON of movies that I absolutely love that don't necessarily have the best actors, best camera, sound, lighting, scene, set and special effects but have a captivating story and storytelling! Man from earth for example! Low Budget Sci-Fi but it's captivating!

This though has some... scares and you can "see" them from a mile away Sad

Fuck yeah:

Apostle - 5/10

For several minutes I was genuinely interested and curious to see the script evolve in surprising ways, despite scruffy Dan Stevens' attempts at acting mysterious which made him look like he was constantly inebriated. But then the movie just throws the atmospheric setting, gritty crude style, and neat premises into judas' recycle bin, jumps inside the pear-flavored cauldron and opts for the self-cleansing brain drilling procedure.

Haha indeed I should have used the search function *shakes fist*. It's just that I watched the trailer and it looked...pretty intriguing. Alas, all the nice ideas really went tits up (as per Netflixian tradition), near the end it even turned into an accidental dark comedy Razz

Vice - 7.5/10
Everyone is great in it. Oscars for all and Oscars for make up effects, really great aging of characters, subtle and real.
But if you loved Big Short, well I have a bad news for you... Unfortunately it doesn't hold a candle to it. It's a really good movie for a bioptic but it's very safe in its approach to the subject matter, what is known to public matter it's firmly said but when they don't have hard evidence it's more of a "we don't say he did it but maybe he did or maybe not but look at this".
Overall worthy of watching due to everybody giving their best, just subpar to Big Short.

Slow paced beautiful, melancholic journey. Very liked this one.

If you liked Melancholia (2011), Annihilation (2018) definitely watch it Smile

Night School (2018) 2/10

My God that was bad! I just wanted to see a comedy and Kevin Hart seemed a viable choice, but boy was I wrong...smiled once throughout the whole movie.

Sex Tape (2014) 5/10

Needed something better after Night school and decided to try this. Wasn't all that better, but at least Cameron Diaz is still hot. Laughing
