I'm glad that they're avoiding XP points/rewards and the typical bling-bling-based system, that's a plus that favors immersion. That said, I hope the weak AI reactiveness from the various videos will eventually improve with the usual Ranger/Hardcore modes *fingers crossed*
This is one of the games that I'm looking forward to the most, the single-player FPS genre really needs to rise from the ashes goddammit. Go 4A, don't disappoint us men!

I'll wait for an ISO-demo, then I'll buy the game when Denuvo is gone, preferably via a sale.

I always considered buying this game and supporting my Ukrainian neighbors for their great (overall) work, but this lack of faith they manifest through implementing Denuvo is... bit disappointing.
Fun fact reminder: Middle Earth Shadow of War was cracked less that 24 hours after release so...
We'll see, eh.

Denuvo is following a similar path as the Starforce protection system which fucked around at ring 0 and caused all sorts of issues but was ultimately cracked to death by (probably) the same people that are cracking Denuvo. As long as Denuvo makes sense to publishers (ie. to sell as many copies of the game they can before it's cracked and ze piratez take over) it will be used. If Denuvo can protect a game from being cracked for ~2 weeks they will sell more copies than if it used nothing but Steam protection (lol).

I doubt the same people who used to crack games 15 years ago still do it. They are probably having some boring jobs now. Cracking and hacking us usually for the adventurous teens who have lots of time and want to screw the world order.

denuvo is the only chance for the devs to protect their goods.
even if it's cracked after a day, they have to atleast try it with denuvo first.
if it's cracked after a few weeks or even a month, denuvo was worth it for them.
for me it's totally understandable and i would do the same if i would release a game.
the few people who will not buy it because of denuvo hurt way less then a pirated game right at the release.

Your personal experience must be the general consensus. Publishers choose Denuvo for those first couple of days which are crucial. The success of a game translates in sales and a game that sells well will attract more customers as well.

/s?
Most people don't really care that much, and the small amount of people that do know how to pirate it will download the isodemo if it's available or just buy it if it's not.

that is not true.
for example re2. if there would be no denuvo i would pirate the shit out of it on day #1 and then buy it on sale for 5-10 euros years later.
since this will probably not be possible im gonna buy it and im not the only one, because we don't want to miss out on this game. 2 friends of mine will do the same.

Thats just anecdotal evidence ... same as mine ....., for my friends for example denuvo means wait bargain bin price just for its existence there ... but well we all have looong backlogs so waiting few years for such price isnt that much of a big deal...
... but well i have no clue how many people care about "day 1" these days ... i sure dont in age of messed up buggy launches and GaaS bullshit

Yup. There's actually no proof that piracy has a large impact on sales. With some exceptions, like very popular movies (or games).

In general, the results do not show robust statistical evidence of displacement of sales by online copyright infringements. That does not necessarily mean that piracy has no effect but only that the statistical analysis does not prove with sufficient reliability that there is an effect. An exception is the displacement of recent top films. The results show a displacement rate of 40 per cent which means that for every ten recent top films watched illegally, four fewer films are consumed legally. |

Nobody posts their sales stats so it's not possible to prove if piracy does anything. Nevertheless I think when a game isn't pirated in the first week, it will sell more which is what the publishers want because that's when the price is highest compared to months after that.. The best way to know is to compare the last 2 Assassin's Creed as both have Denuvo but the second was cracked within a day. As far as I remember Odyssey had bad launch sales, didn't it?

That study is not to be taken seriously. It concluded that piracy rates are unaffected by prices.
In reality price is the #1 reason people pirate, after "because I can"!

Oh wait the study only included 6 counties, 3 of which are UK, Germany, Sweden, countries that are far from being poor. Also consider that Germany is very strict with torrenting (which is the most casual/mainstream form of pirating), you get fined hundreds of euros immediately. Maybe the UK is like that too, I wouldn't be surprised. This skews the results as well, as casual pirating is less spread and those that pirate are more hardcore, as they are savvy about VPNs, usenet, private indexers, whatever.
The other countries were France, Spain, Poland.
Do the same survey in Italy, Greece, Romania, and the whole Eastern European block (not just Poland), and see how the results change

Is there any study to be taken seriously that shows piracy affects games profits rather than not affecting them?
I would think if piracy compared to copy protections affected profits so much then there'd be an indisputable study for this by this point? |
Why would such a study need to be conducted in the first place for you to find it and refer to it? Who would conduct it, for whom, and why?

So the publishers would conduct a study to show it to... you? Why? Are you their stakeholder?
