i dont understand why people like the game, it doesnt do anything better then the original, the original itself is still better with the full randomization of the geoscape. not to mention the artstyle and music , just cant beat it.

they just copy the base building from xcom 2 for this new one ... wtf, at least try and come up with new stuff djees , same amount of layers, same elevator, that just feels lame.

That's true for every xcom style game released yet, at least they aiming to give us similar depth to original.

Actually it is the best UFO clone with standard action points. Yeah it's far for perfect but I enjoyed it greatly.

Shame that they are doing a remake instead of something new but still I will buy it because not enough good turn based games like UFO or Jagged Alliance.

I pitched in. I really liked the first one, and I think they deserve the credit. It's not groundbreaking but as VonMisk said it's a good clone.

With this logic developers shouldn't port older games to current gen or make side scrolling games...

...Although I never announced it formally, my target date for the beta was always 7th November - but unfortunately we're not going to hit that date. Thankfully the delay won't be quite as bad as I initially feared, though, and we're now aiming for Wednesday 28th November (the alternative was the 9th January but we managed to avoid that)...

https://store.steampowered.com/app/538030/Xenonauts_2/
EARLY ACCESS DATE: March 2019
Quote:
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We are expecting the game to remain in Early Access for approximately six months - but it may be longer than that. We'll keep working on the game until we're happy with it!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“The final version of Xenonauts-2 will be a tough strategic and tactical challenge, but the Early Access is not yet at that level. We're working hard to improve and refine the gameplay, fix a lot of usability / stability issues, and add more content.

We'll be adding significant amounts of content in Early Access - more maps, more mission types, more equipment, more enemies, etc. The visuals of the game will also be polished and improved, and we'll be iterating on the interface to make it easier to use and nicer to look at!

Several parts of the game need further development and design work, hopefully in collaboration with our community - the AI is not particularly advanced yet, and there's several new strategic systems (e.g. the main base / air combat mechanics) that we need to to spend more time experimenting with!

Basically, we'll be spending the Early Access phase of development adding in missing features and content, and polishing what is already in place. There's a lot of work left to do, but it's much easier to do it when we have a community around the game reporting problems and giving us suggestions!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“The current version of Xenonauts-2 is a playable but incomplete version of the final game, containing the strategy layer, the ground combat and a basic form of the new air combat. However you cannot yet play a full campaign as not all the content has been implemented.

The Early Access version of the game also includes some placeholder art and interface assets, often borrowed from the first Xenonauts. We'll be reworking these before final release!

Shouldn't be a problem (unless you're one of those people that distrust everything new and build survival bunkers in order to avoid ww3, the zombie apocalypse, alien invaders and Nancy Pelosi).

but think of all the power of dx12! they might be able to add some polygons this time
maybe they struck some deal with the windows store, that's about the only reason i can think of for bothering with dx12

I doubt it has anything to do with getting cash from MS. It's almost certainly them cutting back their support requirements. Win 7 is at EOL, and Win 8 was DOA, so it makes sense for an indie dev with no resources to reduce their burden given that the proportion (~50%?) of their potential playerbase still on Win 7 are going to be forced to migrate to Win 10 anyway in the next 12 months or so.

Sure I'm just surprised they can't find an engine to allow cross-platform support for this game.

this.

i'm a backer and i'm waiting for a better product: i've got quite burned out of playing an incomplete build of the first game and never actually finished it in the end... lesson learned. Laughing

fun fact: nearly 30% of gaming pc's in steam's survey as of dec 2018 are win7
another fun fact: this will be almost the only dx12 game, all previous contenders eventually released dx11 versions

conclusion: almost no reason to upgrade from win7 for gaming

This is the same argument we had with XP and DirectX10.

I don't blame anyone for remaining on 7 for as long as possible, but at some point you have to read the writing on the wall and move to 10. You're a pirate, just pirate the LTSB version and you'll avoid a significant proportion of 10's problems. A new version of LTSB comes out some time this year, so that would be a good time to jump ship.

was gonna add to wishlist, but win10 required? thanks, but no thanks.
Wasn't dx12 advantage to expose the developer to detailed GPU functions for extra optimization, but at the cost of being harder to code than dx11 anyway?
