bigboy: I seem to remember that review copies of earlier games with starforce also needed internet validation... I'm not so sure it was starforce, but I certainly had some review copies which needed this.

EA never used sf as far as i know, they don't need protection like that to sell their games
for example nfsmw had real issues among many buyers leechers despite all that game has sold & still selling enough for them to make another one & have some desert for themself

EA will ditch PC any minute now, they make 10x more money on console sale than pc.

Im not worried. The starforce team charge large amounts of money for this protection, on top of this creating a "generic" protection system for multiple types of files will no doubt lead to many more flaws in the system.. This will also pull the system into the limelight, putting it under heavy scrutiny by both the media and other technology companies. Creating a copy protection for games is one thing, but once you venture into other markets people begin to get worried, nothing can cover all the bases, cause if it is defeated, everything goes down.

Sure this will dent "the scene" but I it will never die. What people seem to forget is that scener's do not crack games to provide free games to YOU. They crack games to learn. They crack games for the challenege. So long as there are people in the world who want to do the seemingly un-doable.. the scene will live on. Did firewalls stop hackers? hell no, and starforce wont stop the scene.
