Sounds a bit like what's happening in the automotive industry with cars and how problematic repairing or servicing the newer models can be, not the most perfect comparison but a similar development which is unfortunate to see especially if it's just for things like battery replacements but it just won't work at all until someone reverses the software and whatever that might require for DIY fixes for this device since Apple isn't providing anything.
you won't get sued by the car manufacturer if you repair your car with refurbished/3-rd party parts
your car won't refuse to start if it detects unofficial repairs
your car won't refuse to start if it detects unlicensed fuel or oil used
you can always connect to the diagnostic OS of the car using the standardized OBD2 protocol
if say BMW or VW tried to do this with a closed off ECU - people will just replace the ECU and give them the finger
Heh well I suppose I have to admit the software industry and certain corporate giants such as Apple don't have much of an equal in how they operate and how much their consumers are willing to accept.
Apple has confirmed to The Verge that some of its 2018 iPad Pros are shipping with a very slight bend in the aluminum chassis. But according to the company, this is a side effect of the deviceās manufacturing process and shouldnāt worsen over time or negatively affect the flagship iPadās performance in any practical way. Apple does not consider it to be a defect.
The bend is the result of a cooling process involving the iPad Proās metal and plastic components during manufacturing, according to Apple. Both sizes of the new iPad Pro can exhibit it.
I feel like it's taken 92 pages of posts to live up to the hyperbolic title of this thread, but we've finally gotten there!
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Still, Apple is sinking - that much is clear. Their attitude towards the iPads being slightly bent is atrocious - you can't sell an overpriced product that banks on being a "luxury item" if it's bent out of the box.
Apple tells app developers to disclose or remove screen recording code
Apple is telling app developers to remove or properly disclose their use of analytics code that allows them to record how a user interacts with their iPhone apps ā or face removal from the app store, TechCrunch can confirm.
In an email, an Apple spokesperson said: āProtecting user privacy is paramount in the Apple ecosystem. Our App Store Review Guidelines require that apps request explicit user consent and provide a clear visual indication when recording, logging, or otherwise making a record of user activity.ā
āWe have notified the developers that are in violation of these strict privacy terms and guidelines, and will take immediate action if necessary,ā the spokesperson added.
It follows an investigation by TechCrunch that revealed major companies, like Expedia, Hollister and Hotels.com, were using a third-party analytics tool to record every tap and swipe inside the app. We found that none of the apps we tested asked the user for permission, and none of the companies said in their privacy policies that they were recording a userās app activity.
Even though sensitive data is supposed to be masked, some data ā like passport numbers and credit card numbers ā was leaking.
Glassbox is a cross-platform analytics tool that specializes in session replay technology. It allows companies to integrate its screen recording technology into their apps to replay how a user interacts with the apps. Glassbox says it provides the technology, among many reasons, to help reduce app error rates. But the company ādoesnāt enforce its customersā to mention that they use Glassboxās screen recording tools in their privacy policies.
But Apple expressly forbids apps that covertly collect data without a userās permission.
TechCrunch began hearing on Thursday that app developers had already been notified that their apps had fallen afoul of Appleās rules. One app developer was told by Apple to remove code that recorded app activities, citing the companyās app store guidelines.
āYour app uses analytics software to collect and send user or device data to a third party without the userās consent. Apps must request explicit user consent and provide a clear visual indication when recording, logging, or otherwise making a record of user activity,ā Apple said in the email.
Apple gave the developer less than a day to remove the code and resubmit their app or the app would be removed from the app store, the email said.
When asked if Glassbox was aware of the app store removals, a spokesperson for Glassbox said that āthe communication with Apple is through our customers.ā
Glassbox is also available to Android app developers. Google did not immediately comment if it would also ban the screen recording code. Google Play also expressly prohibits apps from secretly collecting device usage. āApps must not hide or cloak tracking behavior or attempt to mislead users about such functionality,ā the developer rules state. Weāll update if and when we hear back.
Itās the latest privacy debacle that has forced Apple to wade in to protect its customers after apps were caught misbehaving.
Last week, TechCrunch reported that Apple banned Facebookās āresearchā app that the social media giant paid teenagers to collect all of their data.
It followed another investigation by TechCrunch that revealed Facebook misused its Apple-issued enterprise developer certificate to build and provide apps for consumers outside Appleās App Store. Apple temporarily revoked Facebookās enterprise developer certificate, knocking all of the companyās internal iOS apps offline for close to a day.
The company I work for got the same message today, 24 hours to resubmit without AppSee or removed from AppStore It's so funny to see this unravel from the side (I don't work on that app).
Apple reportedly 'furious' after Stockholm rejects plan for flagship store
Stockholm's decision to scrap plans to allow Apple to build a new flagship store in the Swedish capital caused the tech giant to move to sever its ties with the city, according to a councilor.
Guess the end times are near for apple, wonder how this will turn out, this is why probably we still havent seen new Mac Pro, it will have 100x ARM CPU“s.
Now i know why apple gave Prores codec to windows recently (adobe premiere etc..), its a dying codec, which will be replaced with H265 alike ARM based version, so it can run on those shit systems, since the current one wont work on ARM.
The problem is sustained performance so far on iPad, where there is lack of proper heat dispersion, so the CPU throttles after a while. The question is whether they can fix it on a laptop form factor.
I don't think their Intel line will go away completely. I think these rumors are for the cheaper MacBook 12" and MacBook Air, which are already much slower than the ARM CPUs. If an ARM CPU brings a considerable battery life improvement than the Intel counterparts, those "morons" you idiots speak of will benefit much more than some AVX extensions that might exist in Intel CPUs.

Not sure what this has to do with the CPU disucssion, but that makes no sense. H265 is not an intermediate codec, and cannot be easily used in post production. H265 is an end-user codec, for use in final distribution.
An Apple ARM CPU will also probably mean graphics performance comparable or higher than their iPads, which would be orders of magnitude higher than their laptops performance.
