This game is bullshit when it comes to artificial difficulty. They had to do it to hide the fact that content-wise this game is nothing compared to DS series.
If it had DS difficulty we would finish it in 6 hours tops.
I think the biggest reason I'm struggling with difficulty is because of my DS experience / how I played DS.
Muscle memory keeps fucking me over because I want to dodge instead of block.
When I want to use that mikiri counter, I always end up tilting the left stick left/right which leads to a dodge instead of a counter.
And with enemy's bullshit tracking, those side dodges of those kanji thrust moves tend to lead to near death.
I also still tend to dodge instead of jump for sweeps because my fingers keep forgetting haha. I might rebind my block to circle and replace square with dodge.
The kanji showing up is also kinda annoying, I would have preferred if the enemies got outlined in red or something instead because the kanji tends to block the 1-2 frame wind up animation.
Enemy damage is way too high for those kanji moves because a fuck up usually means you die or are down to 5% life.
By the time I defeat my muscle memory and learn to block instead of dodge, I'm afraid the entire planet earth will be infected with Dragon Rot.
That would be a nice super villain end the world scheme. Just capture the hero, put him in a room with a statue, then keep on killing him over and over again until the world succumbs to the plague.
Game has the same washed out colors as Dark Souls 3 since it also uses a 11-244 black level range instead of the full 0-255 https://steamcommunity.com/app/814380/discussions/0/1850323802573052780/
fixable with reshades levels shader.
Dunno why Japanese devs do this so often Nier:Automata and a lot of other games had exactly the same issue.
thanks for that, really makes a difference!°
hmm seems like not all is well.. i am seeing some weird flickering at the edges of objects (especially grass) when i turn this on (1440p 10bpc).
The training zombie is useless. Use cheatengine (immortality) to train how to fight specific enemies.
It's much more efficient.
I swear training with this guy didn't help me in the slightest to defeat Sekiro Seven Achina Spears and other tough enemies.
Just don't forget to disable immortality when you are done training, learning attack patterns and stuff.
I really wish we could summon and fight in the arena all enemies including bosses after we have first encountered them
PS This is me after ~30 minutes of fucking around with this guy using cheatengine.
Still made a mistake and missed out on some windows of opportunity to hit him, but considering I suck at deflecting and meleeing in general and I always play mages...
Yeah, training guy is utterly useless because he only has his moveset with long frame animations for the windup.
When we were practicing the mikiro counter, or whatever it's called, I was hoping he'd mix it up with different styles of thrusts.
Should have given the guy a spear as spear wielders are my main problem. Swords are fine as it's easier to tell, but spears have some very fast animations for the butt strike. Which isn't a problem if I've gotten used to the idea that holding down block is perfectly fine.
Instead I either dodge, or attempt perfect parries that I fail.
Making a game incredibly difficult with punishing consequences for failure is only fun if the game is actually fun to play... but I'm finding the gameplay to be just too frustrating to be 'fun'.
Nothing wrong with a bit of challenge, games are far too easy these days. But I find this particular game on the wrong side of 'challenging'.
Good thing this forum doesn't have downvoting.

Should I be a DS fan to really enjoy this? I liked the DS games but thought they were overrated (I'd rate them 7/10 at best), but this one is boring me. The gameplay vids look nice, but when you're actually doing it it's very tedious really.
I wish someone would make a proper Ninja Gaiden for PC
Its why I stopped playing after 2 hrs, there is just no motivation for me to get on with the game. I read books for good story so I dont care about that here.
It made me go back to BB and play that instead as ive not finished it yet (too lazy to turn on ps4)
I am loving the game, but I guess you need to just git gud to really appreciate it, which usually many people in here have a problem with so they go back to latest asscreed where they can be coddled like a babby. Once it clicks and you figure out when to deflect, when to evade or jump or use a specific prosthetic, it's a godlike combat system that rewards figuring out every enemy's weakpoints instead of just grinding away like a fool. It's not for everyone, but the combat is easily better than that of previous souls games. But keep on raging peeps
Make game that focuses on melee deflection and elegant combat - then proceed to throw it out the window by constantly throwing 7 or 8 enemies at you at once.
For the life of me I won't ever be able to see how people find this shit "fun" or "rewarding". It's just cheap.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

God I suck at this game. Only after 8 hours, I've killed the first "real" gate boss. The game is hard but I really like the level design with secrets and multiple paths.
So far it is not souls though. It is a much different game. There is a proper way to kill everyone and there are no different builds. This attack You jump over, this attack You press B to deflect, on this enemies You use firecracker and fire on others. This is very much a pare scissors game but with requirement for stupidly fast reflexes which I almost do not have.
Isn't this game much more of a ninja gaiden , dmc type anyway then darksouls killercrocker?. At least with my first impressions it wasn't leadingg me to think it's a darksouls clone . I haven't played though so I just assumed from the eye candy alone
Nah Ninja Gaiden and DmC are stylish character action games this game is not like that at all, at it's core it's still closer to Souls or Nioh.
Combat might share some small similarity's because of the importance of parry but you don't clobber up dozens of enemy's at once like it's nothing, sekiro's focus in combat is always on defence and not offence also there is the importance of stealth which it got from it's tenchu roots.
I've been watching streams and what's making me less interested in it is the lack of armor drops and weapon drops + less focus on "RPG" stuff. A lot of the fun in the Souls series (as well as Bloodborne) to me was finding new and cool/weird looking armor and weapons and trying them out and making builds for them.
I agree with you. I'm fine with the lack of weapons, but the lack of armor is something that is bothering me.
consumable is easily farmable later in the game so thats a non issue
They removed many rpg elements including level grinding but kept this in? Why not make it work like the tanto - say spend some health to get three uses of the buff?
It's not a souls game and more of an action game but they kept a lot of the mechanics that are really annoying in an action game.
I play games my whole life... this is all I know!
Finished soulsborne games multiple times and yet I am having a lot of trouble and little patience for lady butterfly. I want to get her before going for the bull. I can get to the 2nd form almost no problem but cmon... Who is this game for?
It's already lady maria levels of hard! And it's just the beginning of the game.
Gotta rest and fucking git gud....

Just spam dodge attack to stunlock her, it's super easy the tutorial prompt at the beginning of the fight even tells you to do so.
Get the Nightjar Slash skill. It stunlocks her. Gotta be more careful in the second phase though, but you can still stunlock her. You don't even have to dodge in the first phase, just spam this attack.

Does the xp required for the next skill increase? Havent noticed much if any personally. Easy to farm if not.
Afaik if you don't use your skill points, then XP required to get another skill point stays the same. If you invest them in your skill tree, then you need more XP.
Then best way is to get mirakiri skill, kill the horse general, and unlock 3rd skill tree and farm at the castle for skill points then without investing anything, since the posture stuff in ashira tree helps alot
There is an easy 230 skill exp you can get for 20 seconds of work there, at the old lady, jump over, shuriken one of the dogs, stealth kill fatty and kill the other 2 dogs and teleport back to bonfire, rince and repeat
