But that's cheeaaaating. You got any comparison screenshots?
Default fov is a bit too narrow for a game with so much verticality in my opinion it works for DS3 (and i could swear it had a wider fov then Sekiroh by default) but not for Sekiroh.
I only have a comparison for 15% everything else is way too wide and the trainer makes it hard to get the same fov every time.
Don't really see the fundamental difference (there are some variations) in terms of unfairness between this and any other Souls game. They've always been absurdly unfair, and I reckon people got more comfortable with Souls games after playing through a number of them.

Souls games provided gamers with a great variety of options that could be used to deal with what the game threw at you. This game forces everyone to use the same trick throughout the whole game- deflect\parry. This is nonsensical and retarded.
15% allrdy makes a big difference in a lot of fights.
kudos, i find that even more important for stealthy approach where you have to be aware of your surroundings
also why do some people come back here over and over again to bitch and moan about how this game is worse than Hitler when they obviously can*t put it down

It gets tedious and old really fast
I mean. . .that's how the game was designed. There are other things to make the gameplay less "tedious" as you say, but the core is that you are a shinobi. . .you shouldn't be whipping out a. . .whip or greatsword.

Are they really unfair?
I saw a YT video recently of someone doing a back to back playthrough of all Souls games, including Demons Souls and Bloodborne, without getting hit.
Souls games are never unfair, they just expect a larger level of commitment and focus from the players. Tough? Fuck yea. Unfair? Absolutely not.
Same goes for Sekiro.
Not unfair? Sekiro is pretty unfair to the regular player. Initially Dark souls was as well, but it was easy to overcome with a different playstyle, like heavy shield for example. Dark souls or bloodborne never required the form of absolute precision Sekiro does either. Sure, you have to play correctly but it wasn't game over because you did one teeny tiny mistake, and you almost always had plenty of time to react. Come on, you have a head on top of your neck, you can see this for yourselves can you not? Comparing those two games in fairness is utter idiocy as Dark souls gave plenty of leeway while at the same time was a difficult game.

Sekiro is not even close to DS series. FROm royally fucked up .
Idk, I'm enjoying the game, Souls games didn't strike me as more forgiving in the slightest, technicalities aside.
I totally agree that this game doesn't offer as many possibilities as a Souls game, that's for sure, but it tries to compensate for that with the addition of a stealth system and what I find to be a deeper (doesn't mean more variety though, but a change from rollrollrollhitrollroll is welcome to me) combat system.
As a consequence, unless they do add other types of weapons/fighting styles, this won't have the same diversity in terms of replayability as a Souls game. But I enjoy the combat a lot more, even though it's comparatively harder - probably a good thing since it offers less variety.
There's so much we can compare between a Souls game and Sekiro, they do offer sensibly different experiences and have pretty different gameplay philosophies, which in turn explains why some people enjoy one and not the other and vice versa. What clicks for someone doesn't have to click for the other, doesn't mean either side is retarded. However, as is the case for Souls games, you have to give such games a good chance and read up about strategies before reaching a definitive conclusion.
A Souls game does offer more content overall, but I really love the nervous action Sekiro delivers. Plus I don't have enough time to spend to replay rather frustratingly difficult games over and over again, so this is the perfect deal for me.

It may be tougher than the average Souls game, but I don't find it nearly as impossibly tough and unfair as some people here are claiming.
Sure it relies more on deflecting and evade has barely any i-frames at all, but at the same time deflecting has a far larger time window than parrying in Souls games, making it easier to execute consistently. You can even play the game while using deflect as little as possible, hack away at the enemy's health while evading, when the health is less than half the bar, their posture takes a big hit and doesnt recover fast anymore, then you rush a few times and/or use the axe to break their posture quickly and finish with a deathblow. you can also wait for a thrust and use the Mikiri counter which has a pretty fucking huge time window to pull off and if you put some skill points into it, it pays off. In the end depending on what you put skill points into, there are a few different playstyles possible, the game doesn't force you to fight in one very specific way.
People saying this game is not clearly more difficult than souls are crazy.
I've finished all souls and this is MUCH MUCH MUCH harder. I am doing ok at ashina castle now but this is Bloodborne old hunters DLC levels of hard or harder. It's like every mini boss is lady maria
And this game is more straightforward combat reactionary puzzle. Souls have many different play styles and possibilities. Bloodborne much less than souls but still some. This is even narrower but it does what it does well.
I love the game but it's just damn to hard. I know I will not finish it since I cannot even reasonably attempt at beating elite dojo guy or Genichiro.... and I used to say that shadow of the first sin is easy while many say it's too hard
But one for sure - it is NOT unfair. It just requires incredibly fast timings and correct responses from the player. But I am 30yo grumpy asshole.... The reactions needed here require ddr japanese player at times Even when I finish tough fight, I don't feel like I did it "properly"

I am 34, it's not an excuse dude, you can do it!
Regarding the Elite guy, super simple, just keep evading diagonally to his right so you end up behind him when he attacks, then slash him once and back off. He kept doing the same move on me with this tactic and I didnt even get hit once, it was a classic Souls tactic of humping the enemy's leg.
will try. I am trying the legit "stand in place and block" sekiro strats by default... I am trying to be legit

There is no legit way of playing it, anything goes, in fact most enemies and bosses are easier if you start by evading and slicing them here and there. Once their HP drops enough, their posture also drops significantly. It's very important that you don't try to break the posture of tough enemies immediately, but first hack away at their HP a little bit.
The nirvana delivered by the PC port is most evident by switching back to the console versions - Xbox One X being my console of choice - and boy, was that a rough transfer. The console builds are more confusing visually, and gameplay is far less consistent and actually harder. For me, the biggest difference between the versions is that when I die on PC, I feel responsible as I am more in control. On Xbox, it feels like my inability to judge how far ahead of time I have to hold down the parry button is a lot more arbitrary, whereas on PC, I can lightly tap it when it feels right and I pretty much always get the result I want.

The elite dojo guy was pretty easy once I've mastered the inhuman reflexes. You just have to press block in the same microsecond as he unsheathes his sword
Now I just gotta finish up with the 7 spear guy and then genichiro. He seems easier than longswordsman anyway (still alive)

Genichiro Ashina is dead. I cut him to pieces, fucked every little piece I could find and then I shat and pissed on the remains. Fuck you. And fuck you FROM. This is not how you make a challenging game.
1) The safest way to finish the first phase is to use Shadowrush skill.
When he tries to hit you jump+block to the left. In the video, I fucked up several times but in general, even a gamer who suck at this game (like yours truly) can finish the first phase without taking any (or very little) damage
2) The safest way to get through the second phase is to bait his jumping attack and hit him once (the second hit will be blocked) then jump away. Rinse and repeat.
If he runs, instead of jumping, towards you then most likely after you have deflected\blocked his attacks he'll try to fry your ass with lightning, so move away really fast.
If you can consistently( this is the key, coz failing to deflect this attack will cause MASSIVE damage so sometimes one hit is all it takes to get killed) deflect lightning then it's the fastest way to kill him.
PS Sorry for the video artifacts here and there in the second phase..
Well, today i went from finishing up DS 3 by killing the last boss in the ringed city on ng+. Then i thought "why the heck not?" and started up serkio. Well, 20 deaths on Genshiro later i said "fuck this piece of shit" And what a piece of shit it is.
Great game. Boss fights are super enjoyable and the combat is satisfying as fuck!! Beat genichiro or whats his name on the 2nd go with a lightning fucken counter attack on my last bit of hp. SHIT YEAH BOI!
After the initial difficulty of learning the new combat systems quirks it doesn't seem any harder then other souls games. Think the angry old men in this thread need to "git gud"

Yep, some people here simply can't stand when they can't beat something and blame it on the game right away, even though plenty others can manage just fine. Ah well, all the salt here is part of the fun for me.
I'm fine with the combat, it's new, it's fast paced and there are a lot of options with combat arts, consumables and prosthetics. Bosses are really great even though many of them are basically samurai/shinobi they feel unique.
The setting is also fine - but the level design gets really samey - there is very little variety until pretty much the end of the game where you get some unique areas.
And the story seems to be a japanese style rehashing of DS. Did they really need to redo the whole hollowing/undeath thing? Did we really need another obscure ending that you would never even get an idea how to get without a guide?
FROM is just unable to make a completely different game.
