I mean I'm not really worried about the size of the team. As long as the core is there. My Time At Portia has a silly story, but I really play that just for the farm building aspects. . .if this game gets the survival game in Skyrim bit right, looks really good.

Yeah it's a bit pricey but if the games good this is how you support indie developers.

Even though it seems interesting and something I would play, I'll wait a bit before giving it a go. It's a bit expensive for me to get it on the first day.

Seems interesting. Gonna wait for reviews. The only thing that bothers me on the surface level is that at night it's too dark

My guess is it professionally reviews about as well or better than My Time At Portia, which is around 75/100 and which I have a couple dozen hours in. If the core survival components are there. . .good enough for me.

. . .I do hope users get involved in modding the game though, because that UI could use a massive rework.

Some very initial thoughts:
-Game is entirely uncompromising: item durability, strict weight limits, survival needs, food decay, punishing combat - the works. No options to toggle these off either as far as I can tell.
-UI could be better, doesn't scale properly for PC resolutions so a lot of wasted space + scrolling.
-Performance seems good so far on my average rig.
-Character feels a bit floaty for a lack of better word, not the worst I've come across in an RPG though and not a huge deal, personally.
-Smaller team + smaller budget does show, but there's also some neat touches like when you set up a campfire and tent you get a nice little build animation.
-Character customization is shit.

The game is fantastic Eurojank so far. I actually like the mix of survival here. The magic system, what little they showed in the tutorial is also interesting: you have to have spell stones to cast magic sigils, and only in these sigils are your abilities actually useful. I dig it.

Combat is decent. Combos but don't expect DMC. Really need to manage stamina and health and no when to fold em.

Honestly don't get this if you're

Kingdom of Amular and I guess. We're talking about a team of 10 versus a big studio with a pretty huge budget behind them.

. . .and how does it feel like an MMO?

Feels like Dungeon Lord but at least have not been utterly broken and unfinished (so far). Also, the survival part mixed in well with the other gameplay aspects.

Combat is simple, but not broken, takes skill, and not stupid like Risen / Gothic and other shit those dev have been putting out since Gothic 3.

Good fun with a friend so far. Hopefully, the rest of the game holds up. Co-op is the way to go with this. The coordination + the amount of tools one can bring makes it way more enjoyable than what I imagine solo would be.

This game at least feels like the devs put passion and made it with a unified theme. This is the COOP game to play over Generation Zero.

I mean there's a guy tilling the same plot of land day in and day out, neither rain nor sleet nor - in my game at the least - snow.

I played it for about seven hours straight last night and got wonderfully frustrated towards the end when I was sent out on my own to make my own adventure. The opening area definitely doesn't have a lot on the open world, but there are more than a few locations and dungeons to explore. My guess, not having seen any of the other areas, is that you are SO FUCKING WEAK, that peppering the place with enemies every few kilometres (however the fuck you spell that) would probably turn off more than a few players.

Literally reads like someone who rushed out to start "adventuring" without bothering to actually prepare themselves. The game goes out of it's way to, within the confines of it's own system, guide you to where you should be going first and how you should handle being out in the wild. Fighting the chickens and hyenas isn't it.

My start to the game: looted EVERYTHING that wasn't nailed down in the town, and made sure to explore everything. By the time I was ready to leave I had 100 bucks or so for my debt, full armor and weapon, bandages and food and two water skins. As well as a quest that would give me 70 bucks, so that I would be able to keep my house. I went straight to the cave described by the quest giver. . .making sure to AVOID the enemies on the road, so as not to get into any fights that I didn't need to. The dungeon itself is big and difficult to navigate without a lantern hanging off your backpack (which you can't do in the beginning because you only have the satchel) but it manageable. I clear mobs one by one (they all use spears and are SUPER EASY to dodge and counter-attack) and after two trips back and forth to unload/upgrade my character, I reach the end of the dungeon, grab the shield and a nice chest and complete the quest. Bam. I have my home and a good start to the game by doing exactly what the game suggested I do.

Not trying to hate on the reviewer if they are a forum member here, but they literally did what the game suggested they not do and have docked the game for it.

Yep, this game should be all patched up by then -- in about 2 years' time.

It is a decent game, and nicely challenging.
However I dislike the fact that it has no 'experience' :I all your power comes from the gear and skills (bought with money).

I made around 200 silver before even leaving, there's no need to even exit the town to complete that quest. You can complete it in less than 1 day, easily, and by only fighting 2 creatures in the town storage area (which are super simple, just run circles around them and attack occasionally). With this in mind - the guy in the Steam link above is a fucking idiot. Even if you only scavenged the obvious things, you'd still make around ~60% of what you need.

The reports of it being too hard are greatly exaggerated, it sounds more like people are expecting this to be like every other run-of-the-mill adventure game / RPG

It's actually quite immersive. The mechanics are excellent. The only things that concern me are:
  • No jumping. How's that work on dodgy terrain? Why can't I at least climb over small obstacles?
  • Voices suck - had to turn off voice audio, it's much more coherent just reading text
  • The world so far is pretty bland and empty
  • Visuals aren't great, but definitely not a deal breaker
  • The design of the town and other areas feel MMO'ish. Everything's too big, poorly designed, too many wide open and useless spaces (like inside the inn)

What I don't want to do is have to invest a tonne of time into this if the game never really feels lived in. Are other towns basically the same thing? Are quests fun and interesting? I will play it some more and I'm hoping those change for the better.

By the way, the initial quest can be completed without paying anything at all, but for that you need to venture outside the walls (there's a super simple quest to give a bandage to a guy -> go back to city and bloodprice has been paid). THIS quest however has a random elements in it which can make it hard. I had 2 random pistol shrimp spawns around the guy Razz those will rape you in early gear Razz (died once and one of them had wandered far enough to go talk and save the npc).

Lack of jumping IS annoying. There are few places where you get blocked by tiny objects on the ground as you can't jump over them Razz (you can walk around by stepping half a meter to the side, but Razz )

Outward.Update.1-BAT

- Fix issue where searching for an existing game would always return a 'game not found' message error.
- Controller Joystick sensitivity is now affected by the setting 'Camera Sensitivity'.
- Bandit Camp in the south in Chersonese's map has been moved to fit its actual position.
- Each elevator in the tutorial can now be toggled with their respective levers.
- Added a workaround to force all controllers to be assigned to the second player in split screen
(for those having the issue of all controllers being assigned to player1). Player 1 will only
have the Mouse and Keyboard. It is temporary while we make an actual menu for controller assignation.
To toggle this workaround, add a txt file named "CONTROLLERP2.txt" in 'Outward_Data' which is Outward's install directory.
