I have low expectations for this. I fail to see the continuity with the two previous movies. What the fuck prompted Disney to have Johnson for the 2nd movie, flip the table over, then make Abrams return for the 3rd and final act - you can actually tell Abrams is just continuing his 1st movie. It's a shame because as uninspired as the Force Awakens was, I bet he would have done a much better job in bringing a coherent story together.
If it ends up being any good, nice, but it won't erase the two former movies which range from mediocre to terrible and how they fucked the entire storyline. If it's bad, well I'd have expected as much.

story in the end, then I'll truly be baffled at the lack of any creative mind at Disney. I mean, that's so cheap.

It's idiotic how they decided to do a trilogy where every director got to make their own story. Directors should just direct, and writers should write the entire trilogy.
I don't even know who the hero / protagonist of the trilogy is. I mean, I know they're saying Ray is the hero but I don't really feel like she's gone through a journey or anything. It's like she's just there and stuff happens.
Why is she even on this quest again? All I remember is she wanted to get out of not Tatooine or something and for some reason is now invested in stopping the third order, who don't really come off as threatening, more like incompetent idiots despite blowing up a couple of planets. What's their goal again? Just to bring back the Empire for Snoak?
I'm still of the opinion that they should have just made a movie in the Old Republic era instead of trying to go with the 'present' era.

Luke is the big baddie in this to end all of jedi/force bs because too many lives were lost. He's the force of forces.

Looked like a typical jj movie which is good. JJ typical is ron howard typical. So entertaining and fun to watch. No digi scans of carrie fisch... repurposed footage throughout. They said they didn't want to disrespect her. Unless they did so major lol.

Disney fuckers should've let JJ Abrams do all three movies OR at least have the story for all three episodes finished before filming without some fuckhead like ego-inflated Rian Johnson be allowed to totally fuck things up just because he wanted to make Star Wars in his own image and piss on the set up that JJ Abrams did with VII in order to do so.
That's what made the original trilogy the massive success it was and why the world wasn't quite the same after IV-VI. They didn't fuck with the vision and the core. Lucas directed the first which set the stage for V which in turn set the stage for VI. JJ Abrams set the stage for the trilogy with VII but Rian fucking Johnson decided to discard most of the stuff from VII out of pure selfishness.
And Kathleen Kennedy should've been hung, drawn and quartered for supporting it and consequently ruining the last trilogy of the main canon. VIII was basically an act of sabotage.
Of course, his supporters call those of us who hated what he did with VIII "toxic fans", blaming the fans for the failure instead of the director/writer.

Well, Abrams is trying to put the vision back together and due to the damage done by Rian this is one of many things restored (the mask was kinda pointless to begin with though).
It's like the vase that Abrams created with the Force Awakens was smashed against a wall by Rian with Last Jedi. Now Abrams is trying to repair the vase by gluing it together again. The problem is that it's still a broken vase held together with glue, full of imperfections.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just so disappointed in how fucked up things have become. I used to be a devout Star Wars fan. With Lucas' episodes 1-3 I felt disappointed and wondered what the hell he was doing. With the current trilogy I am fuming since Star Wars in it's entirety has been tarnished by the total fuckup. The Force Awakens was nowhere near the original trilogy but I saw the logic behind the things that it was criticized about; it was after all almost a re-imagined version of A New Hope in order to give a similar experience of the old movies to younger generations that may feel the original movie is dated. It had plenty of flaws but I still enjoyed it. Last Jedi on the other hand....
So fuck Disney, fuck Kathleen, fuck Rian Johnson.

I didn't like TFA because it was just more of the same. This is why I want a movie in the Old Republic so it's not beholden to the OT.
But yeah, to me, Rian Johnson was just subverting things for the sake of subverting things.
Like the story came second to the whole subversion of expectations thing. Even if it was dumb or made no sense, let's just add that to the story because it would subvert what people are expecting.
It wasn't masterful storytelling, it was just Johnson being obnoxious. Like he set out to make a movie where he could act all smug and go, "you didn't expect that did you?"
They should have these creatives handle an entire trilogy, not one movie in a trilogy because it comes off as a game of tic tac toe between these directors.
"Oh you did that in your movie well then I'll do this and make that pointless"
"Ah but I'll do this and undo what you did"
So yeah I think end of the day, the one to blame is whoever decided to treat the trilogy like an episodic tv series or something. It's why this trilogy feels empty and why I don't really care about any of the characters.
Abrams really shouldn't have tried to squeeze in too many aspects of the OT because it just makes our OT heroes feel all sad. After so many years and old man Han is still a smuggler, Leia is still running around leading a low budget resistance group.
Then Johnson steps in and one ups Abrams by having Luke end up as a sad old bitter man.
It's sad that that's how the story ends for our heroes.

I was hyped when 2nd one (in the newest trilogy) was announced, then when I watched it I was: waaaaat.
A big disappointment, I don't have the urge to rewatch the movies, and I can usually rewatch movies all the time (like the mcu movies for instance, just because they are dumb and funny).
So I totally forgot that this movie was coming out and I feel 0 hype for it :shrugs:

Teaser is cool. I'm sure JJ will make something way better than last jedi, but unfortunately the trilogy is damaged beyond repair by what rian johnson did.
