The superhero theme just doesn't do it for me and the references have gotten old by now. "Oh yay, it's Morgan Freeman/"Aaaand it's gone" guy/crab people again, and them just being there is the whole joke!"
The game also felt kinda empty and lifeless. It had this "rushed sequel" feeling even with all the delays. I skipped the "collect 10 of X" side quests and as a result I was left with maybe 2 or 3 side stories with any substance.
The combat is still just... there, even on Mastermind. The changes have done nothing to make it more engaging and it becomes a chore later in the game.
Honestly, I think I'm just over this "reference-a-thon with mildly entertaining gameplay" formula. I'd rather just watch an episode of the actual show.
In my mind the first one was based on SP of old, when it was still really good, while this one feels like the newer episodes, that kinda lost most of the charm (for me anyway).
I was just rewatching some older episodes and a lot of them are fucking amazing (like the prehistoric iceman from 4 years ago etc.)
Finished it as well. Gets better near the end, I thought, story indeed picks up around 3/4 into it. Best part was in the depot against Prof Chaos I thought. But it also dragged, especially the combat which was not very challenging. At the end it pretty much is only combat, hence the drag.
Only fight I had some trouble with was the first time against Mitch Conner. The longer it takes you to kill him, the stronger he gets it seems with all his cheating.
The challenging Danger Deck will teleport you to never before seen locations throughout South Park to fight enemy encounters custom crafted by Tupperware. You can access Danger Deck in the Freedom Pals Base by interacting with the Danger Deck terminal, where you and your team of superheroes will be transported into these holographic battles. These increasingly difficult encounters, comprised of a variety of different enemies from the game, will test and push the limits of any superhero. You’ll be rewarded with items and costumes that are also usable on alternate playthroughs of the game.
The first of the DLC packs included with the season pass is "Danger Deck", where players have to face the ultimate combat challenge in Doctor Timothy's Danger Deck. "Danger Deck" will be available to all players as a separate purchase for $6 USD in December.
The second DLC pack is a new story called "From Dusk till Casa Bonita," which has you team up with The Coon and Mysterion to defeat a demonic presence at Casa Bonita. It will be available for $12 USD in 2018. Lastly, the "Bring the Crunch" add-on pack will feature another new story with an all-new superhero class, and will also be available for $12 USD in 2018.
Ubisoft and South Park Digital Studios announced that Bring the Crunch, downloadable content for South Park: The Fractured But Whole, will be available on PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, Switch and PC on July 31.. From South Park Digital Studios and developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, Bring the Crunch adds a whole new story campaign and "Final Girl" superhero class to South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Bring the Crunch will be available for the suggested retail price of $11.99.
In Bring the Crunch, your newest buddy, Mint-Berry Crunch, aka Bradley Biggle, aka Gok-zarah, has just arrived from his home planet of Kokujon with the tremendous power of mint and berries. Meanwhile, an idyllic summer at Lake Tardicaca turns into a nightmare when the camp counselors go missing. With the fate of summer camp in jeopardy, Fastpass sends out a Coonstagram distress signal. Team up with FastPass, Doctor Timothy, Professor Chaos and the newest member of the Coon & Friends, Mintberry Crunch, to save summer camp.
Players will also be able to embrace the new "Final Girl" class and overcome insurmountable odds to survive. This superhero class brings new combat tactics and traps to take down spooky enemies. After saving Lake Tardicaca, players will be able to bring their new powers and buddy to the rest of their superhero adventure..
I recently found some time to enhance the TimeFart abilities and finish the game, felt good to be catapulted inside yet another crazy ride alongside the crew but..it didn't quite properly tickle the poop chute.
The biggest culprit is the actual design, it's too much on the rinse and repeat-y side without exiting from the comfart formula (yes superhero companions pesky quick-time-"puzzles", I'm also looking at you ), the game ultimately feels 5-6 hours longer than it should be. Stick of Truth wasn't exactly a master of variety either but at least it included some trips inside Al's bottom, Canada, alien spaceships and a somewhat interesting story, while the whole Buttholian ride is more of a checklist to complete through the town with a weak main plot that ends up dragging till complete exhaustion (it was developed by Ubisoft after all ).
Still, despite the hit and miss humour, the combat system that never really abandons its status of wimpy chore and overall flabbiness, it's not a disaster in my opinion. There's the usual well-done visual style, the cameos, references and gags that can occasionally grant hilarious moments, my pansexual gender fluid black American muslim character at least had some fun. Six sphincters out of 10
South Park: The Fractured But Whole is back with a new class, new allies, and a spooky new story. Bring the Crunch DLC is available now! With the powers of the Final Girl and Mintberry Crunch by your side, can you save summer camp?
I would finally give it a try. Liked the first one, the second one from all the reviews and opinions I've read looks to be more of a downgrade than an inspiring sequel.
