VR.. i was almost hoping they'd skip that honestly.. I would rather see development in other areas, this means never ending work for VR that they've now added to the list - bug fixes, additions to it, tweaks, it'll drain resources from elsewhere.. There are other areas that i'd hope they would adress first (e.g more interesting enemy types on planets, more mission types)..
On the other hand, this certainly peaks my interest for VR once again, so i'll probably get a headset, once again, for PC |
NMS will probably be one of the better VR experiences, especially in light of all the updates and new content for it. good times |

I can't help but feel uncertainty when I see all those website names glorifying something that doesn't exist just yet...
IF it works... it could be pretty special.

What's there to be uncertain about, and how doesn't it exist? They played it.

I don't even like NMS but the hate boner some ppl still have for this game is pretty uncanny at this point, they added much more then they ever promised in huge free updates but ppl still go on and on about Sean and his lies as if he's the only one who ever lied about a game in development. They redeemed themself in my eyes, game is good but it's just not for me and i accepted that and moved on.

This could have been an absolute scam and it might even have looked like that pre and post release (for a good while), but now i think he's actually a genuine, very driven developer.. yes it's a shitty thing to sell your game by basically making things up, but Bethesda and many others got away with that too so... This is better than what many of those devs did too - e.g saying we wanted to do that thing we promised, but it just didn't work. Sorrythxbye!

Pretty cool this should help a lot with performance. |
Let's hope so. It seems summer will be big for NMS.

Oh? My performance went up the roof.
Before I had about 70-80 fps in space and 20-50 fps on planets. With Vulkan I get almost constant 120fps in space and 60-90 fps on planets.
My setup is a crappy ol' i5 3570k, 16Gb DDR3 and GTX1060 6gb

I wonder if this game will ever become worthwhile. :/
(meanwhile I'm still waiting for Subnautica: Below Zero to release on the "dev estimate" of October 31, 2019 but I guess it'll be finished in January 2020. I refuse to be a paying beta tester and avoid early access like the plague.

I gave it a serious try and seriously, it's still shit as can be. It's procedurally created randomness of shit. You "think" the universe is big and there is much to explore, but there really isn't. It's like playing a Crappy loot box simulator, but the whole game is just a "crap" box. You always get something, but it will always be the same crap anyway.
It doesn't matter, how the animals look or the planets or whatever, it's always the same crap. Nothing you do really matters, nothing you build or destroy has any impact on anything. There is no story or narrative, besides the random crap that's randomly generated and there simply is no point playing this game, lol.
And yes, there is some narrative mission now, but it really just is a long tutorial, to show how the random crap works within the random crap.
It's like the prime example, of why an "open-world sandbox" design doesn't, nay almost never, equals fun. It just means work, a lot of work. Useless work.
But I love how people keep saying, how much it has improved, and yes, sure, it has. But compared to what?
Improved shit is still shit.

it's fine, i played on release day and i got some reasonable hours out of this, probably more than i got out of x4 course if i had paid the full price for NMS i would have been salty as fuck like everyone else.
if you're looking for comparisons there aren't all that many games capable of stitching all of these mechanics together in the first place, let alone games that are considered good.
if you don't enjoy exploration and collecting pointless shit then obviously the game wont do much for you. did you expect 10 billion hand crafted planets or what? this is basically just the exploration/space grind version of minecraft and it's not that bad at it.
they added a ton of shit to the base game, i can't really see any room for complaint there, particularly if you bought the overpriced game at release.
plenty of other shit to play if you can't rub your braincells together to get excited over procedurally generated penis aliens.

Is it exploration tho? If you just drop random stuff randomly around, do you really discover anything?
I rather have 1 handcrafted planet to explore, with places and histories to discover, than 10 billion randomly generated look-a-like planets.

Imo it's exploration when there's new stuff to see and discover that's like nothing you've seen in the game before. And there is quite a bit of that stuff. Some of it very rare.
Played this with another person about 8 months ago and it was quite fun for about 40-60 hours.
It eventually did grow stale with a feeling of having seen most things before, but while we discovered completely new planet biomes, weird crazy creatures, items, ships and had goals to work towards (getting that cool ship you want, upgrading inventory slots, weapons and tools) it was very satisfying.
It had problems that annoyed us like not being able to build a base together (each of us needed to build their own base for their quests) as well as the occasional bug but nothing too bad.
We're actually looking forward to checking it out again when Beyond comes out.
It's like harvest moon or something. Just a chill game where you run around, craft, harvest, enjoy the scenery once in a while. It's simple but it works.

I've been spoiled by Subnautica. No Mans Sky, ARK Survival etc. can't even get close to Subnautica so I guess I'm spoiled.

NMS captured me a lot, more than any game in the recent ~15 years (Rimworld is the only other game which i've played as much).
Subnautica, while it's pretty decent its nowhere near NMS imo. Played 9h, feels like i'm done with that game, it has nothing that really pulls me back in :/ NMS i won't mind restarting from scratch once again..
NMS is far from perfect, but it's the best exploration/survival game to date... it's just hard to not think of how it could be so much more. Would be good if they could tell us what else they've done apart from VR/MP (which doesn't interest me).. I really hope for more ground combat (fighting pirates) and more mission types.

What really killed all the fun in NMS for me, was that, with all that randomly generated crap, planets, wildlife, biomes...
they couldn't be arsed to make more than like... 4 types of bases... I mean, it gets really repetitive, after the first hundred or so...

My problem with No Mensky is that even now that it is structured as a game (sort of ), it fails at giving me that nice incentive to explore forever_alone in a rewarding way. It's not bad, it's just that everything does feel mundane and quite shallow, from the flying itself to the concept of the procedural copypastation which always tends to show all its limited patterns after a few hours.
Handcrafted productions with a noninvasive-yet-meaningful narrative/lore are and will always be the far more engaging experience for me. They might not contain gazillions of not-so-Darwinian phallusauri and picturesque giddy climates but when the alchemy is there (Subnautica above all, but also The Forest to a minor degree), you get the right amount of quality hours that make you feel like you experienced a journey rather than an awkward bingo of tarzanator randomness.
