If Epic opened with this instead of pushing exclusives, I would probably have bought something and installed their launcher.

But sadly they did not and that's kinda put me off.

Though I will say that this sale is proper competition and they should have gone with this from the start.

Bought Hades for $7 and it's fantastic. I am not a fan of Epic games or their launcher, but they had some great prices. Also picked up John Wick Hex as I love turn-based strategy games.

This sale is also a warning that things are not working as they hope they will. Epic is throwing money left and right, disregarding developers/publishers to attract consumers.

Hmm, how far along is Below Zero? I don't go for Early Access but I do want to know how close they are to finish it.

Turkey is the cheapest region as far as I know. Sri Lanka too for some games? Metro was $5 there (not sure if changed now as it was changed in other Asian countries).

Borderlands 3 is not available in Turkey. Russia is cheapest for it ~ $20 USD.

Personally make 2 accounts (one for Ruski BL3) and other for other games from Turkey. You can make single RU account too if you don't want to save some extra $$$.

As for VPN, Hola works nice easy. You can use any free VPN too. Simply sign up with VPN on (not really needed) and continue to purchase. If you get an error, go to account settings and select the region matching the VPN.

All regions have a CC option. Some of them ask for a phone number but you can enter any dummy number and proceed.

...too much hassle.

1 login
2 change region to whatever
3 logout/login -> check if pricing changed to region
4 put desired game into shopping cart
5 upon checkout activate regional VPN, pay
6 deactivate vpn, launch epic client, install, enjoy

might get you banned, who knows...

Yeah. Guess they thought consumers didn't matter because they were swimming in Fortnite cash, but looks like consumers won't take shit.

If they had started out with a sale like this that benefited consumers and not exclusives that benefit publishers, the reception of EGS would have been remarkably different.

But too late. Never buying anything from EGS. Full yarr ahead.

They've spent a lot of money on buying those exclusive contracts. Besides Tim Sweeney who owns >50% of the stocks another major shareholder is Tencent (40%):

Quote:
Tencent Holdings Ltd. ADR Stock Chart
TCEHY
$44.98
*
-1.82
-3.89 %

I wonder if any failure of EGS could reflect the stocks of a major shareholder that fast. I doubt it. Still, to me this sale seems sudden and rushed, signalling something may be going on behind the scenes.

This doesn't look like a major drop, despite what the graph posted displays it as. Also, Tencent is such a big entity with so many tentacles, I doubt EGS is a blimp on their stock performance.

Exactly, even if Epic would go bakrupt the impact on the stock would be so little and compensated within a day or two. Their holdings are so many in so many categories that they dont give a fuck and i dont think that they influence Epic that much, but thats only my opinion.

Yeah, hence the " I doubt it.". I haven't seen any public (or private) numbers for EGS so I looked up the only thing I could find but it's all conjecture and speculation. I guess I kinda want Epic to fail Epically for their loathsome exclusivity lockout. The anger is somewhat misdirected though. Epic is really just trying to gain a foothold in the game selling market. Meanwhile the publishers who decide to whore out the products their development teams create are the ones to really get pissed at.

Or perhaps the most healthy way to deal with it is to take it easy and ignore the whole thing. But here on ze hump we're not even close to being mentally healthy.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

The way they wrote the sale on the game page, it was as if the money off was all on Epic, as if the devs wouldn't take a hit, obviously not.

well the devs might not take a hit monetary wise but their goods/property gets devalued.

Besides the fact that it is actually kinda anti competitive. Why should anyone buy let's say bordlerands 3 on humble if they can get it much cheaper on epic store.

Also, in the latest news, a lot of the publishers/devs removed the discount for their games. Which leaves only a few titles with poor discounts. Very Happy

Doesn't look to me like what he said. He said, if you are greedy, the sale is the best option, because the store pays full price to the publisher for each sale, while customers get it at discount.

Discount prices for games priced $14.99 AND UP are only shown on their own respective pages. NOT on the front page.

dont speak russian but well if it's true its just lol

A rough translation of what they were talking about:

Quote:
I dunno. The publisher suddenly changed its mind.

Quote:
Well, generally Paradox likes to turn on a "greed mode". Increasing prices in the European region and then reducing them (perhaps coz of all the whining or maybe their sales just fell) comes to mind.

Quote:
They were not losing any money on this sale. The sales got significantly increased and all the while they got paid a full price. If a company is greedy, then it's a perfect solution for them. Customers get to pay less, sales increase and publishers get compensated by stores.

Most likely the other stores where the game is sold were losing money.

(I don't get what the last sentence means)

Quote:
Maybe they got afraid that grey market resellers would get a whole lot of copies for 6$ and then resell them for 30$?
