Square Enix and Tokyo RPG Factory have announced action RPG Oninaki arriving Summer 2019on PS4, Nintendo Switch™ and STEAM®.
ONINAKI tells the story of one Watcher on a journey to protect Life, after Death. Players will uncover the mysteries of life, death and what’s beyond as protagonist, Kagachi moving between the Living World and the realm of the dead known as the Beyond. With Kagachi’s guidance, these wandering souls in the world of the Beyond can continue the cyclical process of reincarnation over again.
Reincarnation is the foundation of our way of life. We celebrate the lives we’ve been given, and offer up prayers for the next.
It is grief of death which shackles the living, and causes the dead to stray. Indeed, there is no greater affront to reincarnation.
So do we turn our grief to joy as we send off the dead.
But the souls of those who held back their tears in life still need salvation in death. A duty that falls to the Watchers.
Their task is to guide the wandering souls known as the Lost, and serve as keepers of the Living World and the Beyond.
The Watchers sever the bonds that tie the Lost to this world, and send them on to the next. They navigate the emotions of the living and the dead. They prize life above all else.
This is the story of one Watcher.
Another TokyoRPG Factory game trying to look as generic as possible.
They are trying to ride the old-school wave, but old-school RPGs had atmosphere and their unique art design, this kind of stuff looks like a mobile game.
A lot of folks in the steam forums complaining about controller/trigger inputs not getting recognized. Looks like it has something to do with conflicts between unity and the Steam overlay.
Meanwhile, yarred version has no such issues, cause no Steam involved.
As far as the game goes, I like it. I was only planning on playing through the tutorial stuff yesterday, when suddenly I was 8 hours in and well into the main story. I'ts a little bit grindy, but it's addicting. I'm curious to see where the story goes.
I'm playing on normal, and feel my character is progressing well as far as levels and skills go. I have not yet had to re-visit any area to grind levels, as long as I clear every single enemy in an area the first time I visit it. I've not had any issues with bosses. They are challenging, and some have got me down to my last bit of health with no potions left before I killed them.
You can pretty much hack and slash your way through the game if you like, or you can be a bit more strategic with skills and such to progress a little faster. The skill tree is interesting and I found I was unlocking stuff every few minutes, keeping the combat fresh with new moves to try out.
I also enjoyed "I am Setsuna" and "Lost Sphear", and played them all the way to completion along with all the secondary quests and pickups.
