Cataclysm on Anthem-Testserver/Livestream tomorrow

Quote:
Speaking of the Cataclysm, you’re probably wondering when it is going to release. Rather than rush it out the door, we want to take time and get feedback from you and make changes based on what we hear. In order to do that we are releasing a Public Test Server (PTS) on PC, which will allow you to see the content as it is being developed and gives you the ability to provide feedback. While this won’t immediately solve all of the current issues, we want to continue to hear from you as we make improvements to Anthem – and the PTS is a great way to do that.

We’ll be diving deeper into these topics (and others) as well as giving a first look at the Cataclysm tomorrow on a livestream at 3pm Central Time over on TWITCH or MIXER. We do hope you’ll join us as we take this step towards a better Anthem.

New update out as well: https://www.ea.com/games/anthem/news/update-120

The new stuff seems boring as shit... a time limited grind for points? But this genre is not my thing so who knows, maybe the usual audience for this is into that.

The stream yesterday was awful. They had no clue and didn't engage with any questions or community. Ben was nervous.

As for Cataclysm, it was unfinished on stream and barely looked interesting in the first place. The objective is to get to the boss, Vara, and kill her before time is up. First 2 weeks "pre-events", then 6 weeks of "the event".

The game is moving nowhere and apparently, this won't come out till mid-July. Laughing

Anthem’s New Roadmap Is To Delete Its Roadmap, Which Is Probably For The Best

Quote:
(..)Anthem has a new plan now. No more roadmap. Not really, anyway. After this past week’s update about the state of the game and the upcoming Cataclysm, they adjusted their roadmap page again, which recently read that the Cataclysm started in May, but now it seems likely it won’t arrive until July, at least, after a PTS testing period.

The page still says it’s a “roadmap,” but it is now devoid of any actual dates, or even months, and does not list any specific future content on the way, not even the Cataclysm or new loot that was discussed on stream.

I'd say they give the game some smaller patches and perhaps a sale or going F2P for restructuring if player count drops below sustainable levels (There are other looter games, those are popular and sustain the player and developer so competition is pretty fierce after all.) but if that doesn't work then this is probably going to end pretty quickly compared to something like Ubisoft doubling down on feedback and suggestions and managing to turn things around for some of their games.

Titanfall Apex we'll see how that goes though as a smaller scope and probably less costly game it might be able to make it for EA and well Battlefield and sports games nowadays with Sims 4 still kicking heh.

For Bioware itself they'll likely get to make Dragon Age 4 but if that also doesn't work then I don't know if they'll be around more or well Bioware in studio name at least since it seems a lot of the key talent already left.

Things could pick up but after two large failures with Andromeda and Anthem here in particular I think EA might not be too impressed so they might already have plans for Dragon Age 4 and changes to budget or scope depending on how things are financially with other projects requiring less and earning EA more.

They probably *need* to stop sticking with Frostbite and retooling it for roles it was never intended for and studios familiar with other engines and workflows and just swallow the cost of a multi-project and platform licensed engine such as Unreal even if Dice and Battlefield probably has done some work to simplify using Frostbite but I would imagine Dice of Sweden having a bit of a bigger importance to EA and doing their thing and not helping other studios adapt to using the engine although I don't know there's a lot of stories around how that worked with Androma and Anthem and also Inquisition earlier.

EDIT: Well Bioware might downplay it or have some press announcement but I am fairly sure neither Andromeda nor Anthem lived up, unsure about Inquisition though it is known a few story arcs and potential DLC for Andromeda were quietly dropped and for Anthem the above roadmap and quiet instead of being open and transparent about development is very telling.

It's a shame they fucked the game so bad, speaking of environment the game looks good, it's really nice to look at it, but it's fucking mechanics and the stupid loot and progress fucking sucks.

It had potential.

If it had potential it was wasted long before the game went into alpha (so like 2 days before release Twisted Evil ) due to gross mismanagement.

The game had a ton of potential, Bioware didn't do anything with it.

But guys. This might be a good thing. Now they've wasted a lot of money just by trying to copy loot shooter and desperately riding the wave (if there is any). Development was fucked up and rushed out the door and it bit them in the ass. Good for EA, good for Bioware. EA as usual might totally misunderstand and make faulty judgements like they usually do and think Biowere should stick to the gameplay they're used to.

The problem wasn't the style of gameplay, the genre of the game, or the engine (despite all the hysterics about it). It was management. You can't make a game like Anthem basically from scratch in under 18 months, which is more or less what they did. And going back to the "gameplay they're used to" isn't going to help, because DA Inquisition had exactly the same development problems. They just managed to stumble over the line in a slightly more functional state than Anthem or Andromeda. Bioware's problem is cultural, and it won't matter what sort of game they make, the result will be the same unless there are some fundamental organisational changes. But that is never going to happen. They will release DA4, it will be the same story, and EA will finally put them out of their misery.

But... but... it's the kind of game patrick cyborglund wanted (according to the kotaku leaks), that has to count for something, right? Laughing

That cultural DNA is 100% handled by the management team. And a good manager / management team can handle any type of culture, as it can be anytime transformed / renewed.

All those pink haired undecided employees that serve under BioWare / EA are the only type of people that can handle and sync to the company's 'grand' visions. And I personally don't even blame or judge them. They are simply... serving.

Change the heads that manage the company and you've got yourself something completely different.
