Done.
Good series but nothing mind blowing like what I was expecting after reading some of the comments online.

Probably due to having played hundreds of hours of stalker

I think watching it when every episode was released and without the hype made it better.

Dunno, watched it pretty much in one sitting and I thought it was amazing. Couple inaccuracies AFAIK, but it captured the whole soviet era Eastern-Europe feel perfectly. The vehicles, the apartments, the entire soviet architecture and general design of stuff was spot on. I bet they made those glass ashtrays just for this, they were so damn anachronistic.

I also dove deep into documentaries about the disaster after playing Stalker. That was the first time I actually heard about the divers and I was under the assumption that they all pretty much died. When they volunteered in the series I teared up a little too, those guys saved millions of lives. That scene wasn't done to perfect dramatic effect, but damn, I was so fascinated by those 3 people that I got emotional regardless. Happy to hear that 2 of them are still kicking.

I think the whole culling of animals part could have been cut or just trimmed down to make more room for other cleanup efforts. A bit more about the sarcophagus maybe.

Having played hundreds of hours of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. made the series even more awesome for me Razz

On March 28, 1979, at exactly 4 o’clock in the morning, control rods slammed into the reactor core of Three Mile Island Unit #2, halting the nuclear reaction because of a fault in the reactor cooling system. At 4:02, the automated emergency cooling system activated as the reactor core temperature continued to rise. At 4:04, one of the plant operators made the befuddling decision to switch off the emergency cooling system, dooming the reactor to partial meltdown.

Yea first hire only russian actors and then hope that the US viewership will be ok with reading subtitles, which is a new concept for most murricans.
It wouldn't fly.

Finished watching it yesterday, it was good, but not perfect I think and certainly not worth the 9.6 it's currently on IMDB. Would probably give it 8.5/10. I think for immersion it would've been better to have them talk in Russian, but it still worked OK.

I agree. It's good, but why the crazy OTT ratings for this??!! I'd give it 8.

Show would be completely different in Russian.
The scenes and the dialogue would be out of place in Russian.

It's a solid show. But saying it would be better in Russian is idiotic. Have you heard Russian? Watched Russian shows or movies? It sounds fucking lol. It's weak jaw language. Even broody shows sound lol. All Slavic shows/movies do. The tone would be cold and dry and empty. And you'd have to film it to match it and it just would be a complete opposite of what it is now.

A docu style, in Russian might work. But not a dramatic show like this.

Also it wouldnt go 1.5 higher or 2 points higher if it was in Russian lol. You people are high.

It makes most other shows look terrible in comparison, what shall I watch now?

Only so many times you can watch Breaking Bad, Band of Brothers and the like

Breaking bad? The fuck?
A few good episodes... Some memorable scenes per season doesn't make it comparable to a limited series.
Cbernobyl is good, but not that good. It's a moody grim show that has both style and substance. There's many shows that are just as good.

I found Chernobyl different from other shows for various reasons and isn't directly comparable. It's a 5-part drama inspired by the real events while trying to portray Soviets communist society and I think it did it splendidly. The only real criticism I've seen in this thread is that it's not 100% exact compared to the real event. It never claimed to be a documentary and used some artistic freedom while writing the script in order to make the show work on-screen and as a "pull you in"-drama which worked very well. It's not a documentary and I think the overall story telling was close enough to the event that I don't mind some minor factual deviations.

I watched one episode every few days and it gave you time to think about each episode.

I stopped binge-watching a few years ago because I realized it completely RUINS series. You quickly grow tired of the characters by seeing them over and over and over in a short span of time and you also start noticing repeating stuff which you'd otherwise forget between episodes.

I remember the days where, as a kid, every night of the week was a "MacGyver night" or "Magnum PI night" - every night was something to look forward to. Belgian TV had this kind of system:

- 6 'o clock news (very short)
- 6.10 till 7: soap operas (Home & Away or Neighbours)
- 7 till 7.30: the news
- 7.30 till 8.30: quiz shows (wheel of fortune, countdown, etc.)
- 8.30: 50 minute TV series (MacGyver, Magnum PI,
- 9.30: a movie or some more adult shows

As a kid this was great - from 7.30 on, we had a few hours of fun TV to watch with the family. It made us enjoy the series way more this way, too. I miss those times!

I did not binge watch, I just didn't think this show was a masterpiece. Throughout this thread people describe getting chills etc., I didn't. Different people, different tastes.

Or it makes you realize shit one dimensional characters, repeated plots to pad out length and realize that some series that seem great to people who watch them every week are actually not that good.
None of these was a case for this, thankfully.

In spain was exactly the same... from mid 80s to early 90s. Remington Steele, V, MacGyver, The A-Team, Knight Rider, Magnum PI, Street Hawk... damn it was good!
