Playing American Truck Simulator, I was getting nauseous viewing the truck from the outside driving. Fallout 4 VR was better although I really don't care for the teleporting vs. moving thing. I am guessing it's to limit nausea. Can't shoot Radroaches worth a damn in it, let alone hit them with a baton. Going to have to figure that out. I'm assuming the fighting in Skyrim VR isn't much different .

I generally drive within the Cab but didn't have a button mapped for the view on my controller. I also didn't want to take off my headset to find it on the keyboard. I'm guessing that would be better. I only use the outside view for parking and, turning in town and generally driving around towns. I'm wondering if it would be better in the cab.

First impression after testing In Death and Crisis Vrigade - no regret on the "update" to S. I'll hope they fix the battery drain problem.

red_avatar wrote: | Well, I was tempted to buy the Quest but Oculus being such giant cunts put me off so instead I got the Vive wireless adapter.
I'm curious to see how well it will perform and if I buy the Valve Index controllers, I can just keep the Vive headset - it's still excellent and I don't like having audio solutions on the headset itself - I prefer small in-ears which feel much cooler and lighter. |
Update: I got the Vive Wireless adapter, installed it and was pleasantly surprised.
Pros:
- it works great - required little to no effort to get going
- no extra HDMI port on your PC needed
- no extra power outlet needed
- no USB port on your PC needed
- being able to play games and turning around without having to be constantly aware you might be tangling up wires makes a big difference - especially in games such as Serious Sam
- battery life is quite long and a €25 20k mAh Anker battery even ramps that up to 7-8 hours easily
- the antenna is almost weightless to me
- you can clip the battery at the back of the headset if you, like me, don't always wear pants while gaming. You can use the old USB-to-USB Vive cable since it's half as short and less "dangly" for this
There's only a few negatives and most are minor:
- it's not very cheap - this will be the main draw back
- you need a PCI-E slot - I had 3 to spare so no biggie
- you need to place a small antenna to send and receive the signals
- using full size headphones is very tricky now because the wireless receiver now gets in the way. I still managed to do it but it's not as comfy as before. On the other hand, earbuds work fine too and will be less hot.

I almost bought a rift s the other day since the Index isn't available in Canada, but I was looking at the ipd range and its not close enough to what mine is to bother.
I already have a vive so I'm in no hurry to upgrade to anything but I wanted to get an hmd that had less sde, but I guess I'll just keep waiting for valve to get their shit together.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting one of those VR things, big issue I see is that I wear glasses and not sure how that fits and all.

I got the Vive index to replace my vive, what I think so far (only about 5-6 hours in it):
--The resolution and screen door is much better. But it still 'feel's like VR..I dont know how to explain it...Does it feel crisp and sharp like real life? No but the screen door is virtually gone to the point I have to REALLLY look for it on a high contrast scene.
--The 80/89/120/144 hz options is great. Not only for the higher refresh rates. but the 1/2 rate options. Something wont run at 90fps? Set it to 120 and get 60, instead of 45hz re-projection rate..which surprisingly is a big difference from 45.
--God rays are better..and worse. Let me explain: They do not take up the whole edge of the lenses or objects anymore. BUT they do 'morph' around the edges in foggy clumps of the lenses as you move. Overall a feel of "You fix a problem and created an equally noticeable different one".
--The Knuckles controllers. WAY better than the Vive or Oculus first gen ones.
--The audio off ear speakers are amazing. I had the vive addon audio strap before, and these don't touch your ears and blows both the audio strap and oculus ones out of the water. No longer do sounds sound like they are coming from some direction inside your head, but actually in the world. A few times I heard a sound and lifted them up thinking it came from my speakers on my desk, or someone walked in the room and was doing something.
So overall is it better? Yes a lot. $700 better? Debatable..I'm 50/50 on that.

I really don't want to spend $1k on a device. $500 tops.
Kinda on the fence between HTC Vive, Oculus Quest, and Rift S.

S image quality and lenses are the best. Some say even better than index. Quest is standalone and will get a pc cable too. Vive is a piece of shit, cosmos is expensive piece of shit, index has some more fingers but You can do many gestures with oculus too Abe will hold a gun in most games anyway

I disagree. I bought both when they came out. And decide my son gets the Oculus. The vive was superior to me in ever way other than audio options. And the audio strap fixed that.
Tried the Rift S and Quest, and think the vive index is far better than both myself.

That's a good choice.
I say next to the index, its the next best choice. And best choice overall for sub $500.
