It depends on what you mean with "believes". If you're talking about LaVeyan satanists you should understand that it's a philosophy and not a religion. There are on the other hand plenty of unhinged devil worshippers calling themselves satanists but I'd almost class it as a mental illness.

Really boring... it can be summed up in one sentence "people got offended".

I guess its kind of interesting how extremely conservative US is in comparison to e.g Sweden (the church here is very pro LBTQ and Islam and sometimes outright very anti Christianity). I follow a few US youtubers who are satanists and conservative, thankfully they don't speak too much about the satanism. I think it had its time in the 80's, and i find it funny how it can even be seen as something even remotely upsetting in 2019..

It would be far worse to come out as "a conservative Christian" here than "a progressive satanist". no activist would bother with wrecking your tires because you said on TV that you're a satanist Razz In US, completely different though, reminds me of Sweden in the 80's.

Comparing the US of today with Sweden in the 80'ies doesn't work. Even as far back as the late 60'ies or early 70'ies Sweden was way less religious compared to the US of today. It's not a 1:1 comparison though since Sweden is a small country compared to USA where the strength of religion differs between states.

I currently do not have any christian, judaic or islamic friends (although I have friends with both jewish and muslim heritage). It's a rather novel thing really, reserved for old folks and a minority indoctrinated either by parents or by "searching for the meaning of Lifff". Wink

Never said it was a 1:1 comparison, just that Sweden was more similar to US in the 80's when it comes to this.

I have a friend (teacher) who has many muslim friends (former students, his classes has been almost 70% muslims for the last 10 years). They take it extremely seriously, they don't drink, if they have a sister they make sure she's covered. It's way more common that they are like that than not caring too much. Everywhere you go you can see how our society has been forced to adapt, bath houses for example or meat almost everywhere is halal (too much of a hassle to have both). Education is also somewhat limited to not offend with their belief, this is something which has annoyed my friend (teaches history/religion and civics). They have to really tip-toe around many subjects and it's not uncommon that their parents call the school and are very upset about some topic. So no, nothing points to it being a novelty of any sort, if anything they are more radicalized and more religious than in their (parents) home countries often.

I think these satanists have a good point, what they're doing is trolling but its at the same time poking at something important; how ridiculous religion really is and how stupid it can easily get if everyone is supposed to be offended and claim their "rights" to this and that all the time.. Obviously the message will not get through to deeply religious people though, which nullifies the whole idea unfortunately. We also have "Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster" which is a funnier trolling, and which they've taken quite far.

Anyways, not really worth a watch unless you're young and its something new.
