they plan to release the op pvp gear from beginning ... so pvpers will run around a year without upgrades as only nax has better stuff lol ...
warriors wet dream
but im having a good time on a pvt server now, i dont think ill play long, just starting month maybe for the launchday feel
frankly the game is actually pretty dull and lacking content , and thats from playing on a server running a version a year after release. massive zones with just nothing interesting in them to find or discover
for example i walked from crossroads to thunderbluff, which is almost a ten-fifteen min walk ingame and didnt come across a single interactive object or npc except one bunker at start of the journy ... thats just ridicoulous from a gming point of view
wow pretty much all is about gear, grinding and raiding, and thats a big shame, the open world is dead after a few weeks
If it had like a diablo esque itemization, sockets, runewords, treasure finding, puzzles, more hidden storylines , secrets and zone events, it would have almost been perfect, instead they just milked these player cows for all the had, feeding them just gear pixels and silly raids zzzz

And there are a vast amount of comments bitching about it... might it be that your generalizations just doesn't hold up in reality? *shock*
Just dial down on your hyperbole and some of the stuff you say might actually land.
I honestly don't get why you always need to sound like an old guy ranting, we got Scara for that already.

Opted in for classic beta yesterday evening, got invited in today.
Maybe they do give a bit of prioritization to vanilla accounts.
Played 2/3 hours and while its fun and familiar its also no where near what it used to be since: Better at the game, know more about the skills/mechanics and I still remember every fricking quest/trainer/rare and even treasure chest locations.
It is vanilla though, for better or worse. I'll play some now and then in beta and when it launches but like hell I'd ever go back fulltime. Been there done that and all... also I was looking forward to old AV but they went with a later patch so its already neutered. So that was the big reason I wanted to play gone.

morph , did u have an active sub running ?
i think people are enjoying it and i get it, i loved the first 20 levels first time on a fresh pvt server a ton, but once u level up to 25+, the chore really will set in. its a HUGE timesink people are underestimating, yes these streamers are having a blast, but they can play 12 hours a day to progress, normal joe and his 1-2 hour gametime, is gonna struggle bigtime. rested xp u will need to carefully manage and i suggest u actually swap characters and make use of it, it takes an fat hour + of grinding mobs to use a full level of rested xp alone. (20 to 21 ) ( on a 1* pvt server at least)
deadmines alone took a overleveld random group with two hunters 2hours + and we wiped only once ...
I had my fun on a pvt server for free, maybe ill play just launch month but meh, not enough value for 12/eur+ a month.
and how sad has gaming become when people have to go back to 14y old games , if ud told me this 15 y ago .. i would have laughed in ur face , meh jokes on me now , thank u industry

(UO rant incoming) Ultima Online pre-all the expansions was glorious. The expansions added more land to build houses on but it also made the game a lot less focussed. Original UO was more of a single player experience for those that wanted it to be, with multi player for trade, PvP, player killing, etc. but UO now is impossible to play properly on your own.
With WoW, the original experience was terrible. You had some basic crafting, lots of running around (mounts took ages to get), tedious repetitive combat since the quests alone were not enough to get your character the right level for the next area, standard fetch & kill quests, ... I never got why it got so popular.
Now let's compare to UO, released in 1998:
- crafting of tons and tons of items including furniture, weapons, armor, food, maps, spells, scrolls, potions, plants .......
- sail boats around vast waters, explore isolated islands, fish up sunken treasure. You could control the boat completely - it didn't just sail between fixed points like in WoW
- a large open map with no limits where you could go even as a starting player unlike WoW that had clearly marked zones
- you could buy and build houses just about everywhere, even on a remote island Wow didn't have player housing
- resource-based magic where you could harvest ingredients in the wild or loot them off monsters - in WoW, magic is just infinite and plays into the grinding aspect
- teleportation books - you could "mark" runes anywhere you wanted and teleport back to that exact spot any time you wished to. No running for ages to get somewhere.
- thieving: going in hiding, sneaking up on people to pickpocket ANYTHING they carry (even bank checks). Heck, early on you could even break into houses.
- player killing: this added a massive adrenaline rush to the game since, if you died, you lost everything you carried on you. PKs would often hide around loot-heavy areas where well-armored players would go. They'd wait until a monster would get their health down and then strike.
- you could tame most animals and ride quite a few of them. Want a mount? Just tame a horse. Want a cat as a pet? Tame it and take it back to your house.
- Want to have plants around the house? You can craft flower pots, get fertile earth, get seeds and crossbreed to get the right colour and type.
The one aspect of UO that puts new players off, is that the official servers are full of seasoned players and the economy is broken. For UO to work, all servers should be reset once a year. Free shards (=servers) have done that for decades and it works really well - the fun in UO is to start from nothing and to end with a beautiful house with furniture you crafted yourself and great decorations looted from the darkest dungeons.

I couldn't agree more. Original WoW was about rhnning, running, running, running, running and then grinding, grinding, grinding and grinding. And a lack of content. When Burning Crusade arrived it had turned into a different (yet grindy) game.

Yup since halfway mark of Legion.
Sin, you do realise that its included with the normal sub right? Though it be indeed silly just to pay for vanilla the full price.
As to having other games available, sure I won't mind having em all. I still play Star Wars Galaxies pre-NGE as well. At the end of an MMO's life they should just release the goods so private communities can run servers instead. There's plenty of bad and good MMO's of the past that I'd want to revisit or try since I never had the time.
@Russ
Bit silly to sub just to get a chance. That being said, they will be inviting more people today and tomorrow since they have stress testing planned so you might still get in. Anyone who isn't subbed yet, don't... you're just gambling.

just activision things, deciding to not have european language server support for wow classic cause god forbid they would have to pay for localized gms and support people while charging 12 euro a month. Clueless cheapskate yanks in charge, whats next, a 999 euro wow monitor stand? shit now i gave them more ideas

the hype is remarkably silent sofar, then again activision knows they have to spend literally zero euros to promote it, fuck, people payed them for beta acces hehe. they trew so much money at them that when wow was no longer in top ten monthly grossing pc game revenue sharts, when beta was out, it was back at top 3 the next month ...
wow fanboys are nutters like them apple cultists
i expect new classic content eventually down the line , but i know all im gonna get is bugs, same content from 15 years ago and just one month of content i enjoy. ah well, i guess i will have burning crusade to look forward again in 2020 when activision needs money again
no change fanboyism attitude is just dumb considering all the quality of life changes the game had and their current customers are used to

Well, duh. People wanted Vanilla after all.
Though I wanted my old AV, not the streamlined version we're getting.
Think I played beta all in all about 20/30 hours, would have been more if the wife would have been invited as well.
After a 2/3 weeks I lost interest though, had other things going on and even missed the last day of Beta. So yeah, that confirmed: I'll play it once in a while but won't put that much time into it. Just for whenever I get nostalgic for the class quests and pre-cata story.
I think TBC was the better expansion, but that one would turn a lot of people away with what we're used of now.

I tried a couple of vanilla private servers for my couple favourite MMOs of old (namely World of Warcraft and Lineage 2)..
Once the first few honeymoon weeks in which you feel some of the original excitement you once had are gone, not much is left, unfortunately. You can't just revert back time !

Not a single game has ever gave that feeling what classic WoW gave me when i played it first time, i don´t have words for it . Personally i can´t wait to play this again, raids are fucking amazing with 40 people (good people) |
Yeah, I can see what you mean, it's the same for me with early Lineage 2 chronicles
The feeling you get in those starting farming zones, the early-game (hence under-leveled and under-stuffed) PvP battles and Sieges always are the best - before it devolves into a race for levels/equipment in which only the people with way too much free time on their hands can win .
Vanilla WoW just has this gigantic aura around it, it was such a smash hit when it started off.. I might have gotten tempted, but I kinda did this with the vanilla private servers already, no point in repeating that gameplay for me.
Enjoy this to its fullest !
