I don't see why not. They're going for an authentic experience afterall.
I am very tempted to... 'mock' a bit this vanilla experience in comparison with today's WoW (and it's QOL and streamlined features), but... somehow... I've a feeling that lots of people will actually enjoy the return to the 'prehistoric' version of WoW.
Even if for the sake of being something different than today's experience.

I take it you never play old games. If you do then you make no sense. People enjoyed the game at that time, and what's wrong with that? Please don't give me some idiotic reason "hurr durr nostalgia" that's just parroting other imbeciles. Not gonna play it either as i cba to level for 12 years, but i sure as hell won't sit here and mock others for finding it enjoyable. Use your head and realize people are different. An art that is soon lost, i know.
this video says alot why ppl want to play classic; im sure at launch and in the first 1-2 weeks maybe, more ppl will be in classic than bfa, but it would be quite something if that would be the case for a long long time.
it doesnt take 12 years to level, just make 2-3 chars, and rotate, it takes an hour + just to empty a full rested xp bar giving double xp
lvl 10-15 first day 15-20 next day, and then get some alts to 10 , park in the inn, and before u know it u have some lvl 40s and 30s without to much hassle, just have to minimize travel time, its the world of walking that will inflate time spent massively. (hunter, shaman, any class with 20-30% movement speed skills) wil be more enjoyable and a lot faster , hunter can get up to 36% speed at lvl 22)
im going mage hunter n rogue i think with hunter main. the others just for parking, porting n storing
lets see if i make it past lvl 50+ this time, i canceled my sub after 2-3 months at 55 as paladin, god , what a horrendous class compared to shammy, i felt so scrwed at the time lol , but the main reason was these wankers didnt stick to the monthy content patches mmos promised back in the day, and people let em get away with it and here we are ten years later and u can be lucky to get a patch after 8 months roflol, blizzard epitome of lazy
and if u value ur sanity, and dont powerlevel, then for sure dont play on a pvp server ... u going to regret it every time u walking back to ur corpse getting corpse camped

/whoosh
That wasn't the point, but you sure had to take care and throw some salt in.
The underlying message was that vanilla is such a big difference compared to 8.0 (or 8.2, whatever) that some people will be - probably - pleasantly surprised by the game, despite it's (pseudo?)archaic mechanics.
Also, no one said anything about nostalgia. Well, except you. ) It's such an overused, relative and imprecise term that it truly is - in the case on vanilla - very hard to include it in the equation and have some proper assessment about who is gonna play / like the game.
Tl:dr
I am tempted to consider this a game for the nostalgic nerds, but the lack of hand-holding / new difficulty might be a breath of fresh air for old / even new WoW players. I might play it and even like it, not for nostalgia, but for the "novelty" and lack of insulting mechanics.
mz im still considering, if im gonna powerlvl the alure of pvp server sounds tempting just for sitting one day in a lvl 20 zone with my lvl 40 one shotting everyone sitting on some rooftop guards cant get to , just cause u can
