Already fixed on Windows machines:

AMD Pulls PCIe 4.0 Support on all non-X570 motherboards

Quote:
Yesterday we reported that gigabyte is actively pulling inf PCI-Express 4.0 support from all non-X570 motherboards. AMD has now stepped it up and is has removed the feature from older chipsets in their latest AGESA firmwares.

AMD has drawn consequences from the one-sided efforts of the manufacturers in the matter of PCI Express 4.0 on motherboards with pre-X570 chipsets. Along with AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 ABB the support will be removed.

The motherboard manufacturers have partially defied the requirements of AMD and released PCI-E 4.0 on motherboards with older chipsets. A recent updated AGESA firmware now removes PCI Express 4.0 support on all motherboards with pre-X570 chipsets.

The rollout via BIOS updates has recently been started. Among other things Gigabyte distributes corresponding updates with AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 ABB and notes in the change notes the remote support of PCI-E Gen4 when using a Ryzen 3000 processor due to the new AGESA version. A similar reference can be found in the mainboard models GA-A320M-H and Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi .

Several motherboard manufacturers have added PCI Express 4.0 motherboards with on B450- and X470 chipsets. AMD announced before the launch of Ryzen 3000 and the X570 platform that PCI-E 4.0 only would be available on X570 motherboards. The motherboard manufacturers, however, wanted to upgrade their product portfolio on their own.

The update in the form of AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 ABB is also accompanied by further changes. According to AMD, smaller issues with Ryzen 3000 processors have been resolved. In addition, AMD has adopted the warning "Event 17, WHEA Logger" in Windows Event Viewer and XMP profile compatibility for memory.

Returned rev.B without even trying it on. The base was crooked and convex... and some of the fins were a bit bent (nothing too bad). I had good luck with macho before but not this time.
Ordered be Quiet! Dark Rock pro 4 and damn! The base is flat, straight, everything is painted with this nice sleek paint. Fins are not razors, everything is fitted together very nice, fans are very good, mounting is good with even rubber pads installed in the heatsink.
I've not installed it yet but I am already impressed. Thermalright does not even label their packages with mounts and here everything is nicely separated and packaged.

And WTF, I am amazed I knew my 3570 was having trouble, but this is incredible. From 28-49fps (peaks to 60) in Rattay, now I get a rock steady 60fps on medium/high settings. So I check the settings, surely something must be wrong. Nope, still the same. I've set it to the "very high" preset, still 60fps in Rattay. How can the CPU have so much impact? So 2500k/3570k is enough for gaming these days? NO FU! This is with a 1080 OC btw. I know this game is a coding clusterfuck, but I find it amazing.
What about Fallgout4 running around in downtown Boston? And GTA4? Confused

did you buy the Rev.B used or new?

If you bought it new, then why not just get a replacement at your shop?

The DRP4 is really difficult to install and I don't like anything about it, except the looks once it's inside.

Bought it new, yeah. They returned the money no problem and I've pauid 25$ more for the drp4.

Initial testing:
Cinebench r20
-stock fan, default bios settings: 76c, 3930mhz, 4700 score
-DRP4, default bios settings: 63c, 4070mhz, 4850 score
Idles went from 41 to 31 too.... and it looks amazeballs.

yep - it's a bit of a bitch to install. The cooler itself is simple enough but fan mountings are quite weird.

I have to admit, I bought two Revs.B aswell at the time, one went back because it was warped, just like yours. Seems like they have issues with Quality control.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The new Zen2-powered EPYC was released with the highest SKU EPYC 2 7742 having 64 cores/128 threads with 8 memory channels. It's ~$6950 and obliterates the top tier Xeon (Xeon 8280, 28 cores/56 threads which sits at $10K Laughing ). A single EPYC 7742 beats 2 x Xeon Platinum 8280'ies meaning not even $20K+ worth of Platinum Xeon 8280 can beat a single EPYC 7742. While it's a server CPU it probably hints where the next Threadripper is going. Wink

That's what happens when a tech giant like Intel feel invulnerable and decide to spend the money on promotion and executive payouts instead of hard R&D. Wink

AMD Stock Taking In a Big Upwards Trend 16% added value after Epyc Rome announcements

Quote:
AMD is smiling again (as they should). It appears that they have left that negative spiral behind them. AMD now passed 34 USD which is a near 85% increase in value seen from a year ago. The new ZEN2 products are paying off and have been well received in the market.

Last week they introduced 64-core Epyc Rome products for the data-center, and that again was very well received in the market, both Google and Twitter announced that they would use the new generation of processors in their own servers. Patrick Moorhead, founder, president and chief analyst at Moors Insights & Strategy, indicates that AMD can play a primary role in this market for a long time due to the delay of a 10nm production process at competitor Intel (for the server market).

So when are they going to hit nVidias nutsack? We knew from 12 months ago that the Navi would be a midrange GPU competing with what is now the previous generation of GPU's from NV. Obviously they spent most resources on the safest bet; the server market (trickling down to desktops and ultimately HPC). Perhaps the added revenue will give them the balance to focus on GPU development as well. However, seeing as how top GPU-people at AMD have been poached by Intel (and rumors has it that Dr. Lisa Su is going to IBM next year) perhaps AMD is actually winding down their efforts, admitting defeat when it comes to high performance gaming GPU's and will focus on APU-hardware like they've done the last couple of years and no ATI-renaissance is coming.

It's wccftech so probably BS. They also ran the "moving to IBM" story, which Lisa Su immediately shot down on Twitter.

Still, it is known that they have higher end Navi cards coming at some point. We will probably start hearing about it later this year.

I am either a fucking idiot or a genius.
The chipset fan on x570 gigabyte elite board started to annoy me a little when it was turning on (very rarely), so I decided to lubricate it a little like You can do with normal fans.
I broke the hell out of this little piece of shit Laughing
So I took it off of there completely and also discovered that there is a thick plastic "aorus" artwork sticker covering the whole chipset heatsink. I've also took it off and now it's a nice, black heatsink.

Not only does it looks better now but temps are 2-3 c degrees lower Laughing
Why the hell are they putting active fans on there?
