Alien: Isolation Nintendo Switch release could be in the next few weeks, after game receives ESRB rating
Alien: Isolation's Nintendo Switch rating makes clear it won't be dialling down the horror for the upcoming re-release
If you didn't already know Alien: Isolation was coming to Switch, you'd best start steeling yourself now for round two of Amanda Ripley vs. Xenomorph, this time with the added benefit of portability, as Creative Assembly's excellent survival horror game arrives on Nintendo's console later this year.
It sounds Isolation, one of the best horror games of the generation, is coming pretty soon, in fact, as the title (already available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360) has been rated by the ESRB for the upcoming Switch port, which is usually a strong indication of a title going gold, ready for an imminent launch.
You can find the rating on the ESRB's website here which, unsurprisingly, lists Alien: Isolation as M for Mature, as a result of its frequent use of "Blood, Strong Language [and] violence." If you needed any more evidence that Feral Interactive (the studio porting the game to Switch) won't be sanitising Isolation's potent mix of horror and violence, check out a further description of the game from the ESRB below.
"When Ripley is spotted by an alien, a short cutscene depicts her getting knocked down and bitten in the face, or stabbed through the chest with a spike. Blood is depicted when players are impaled; several corpses can be seen lying in pools of blood during the course of the game."
Ah, yes, it's all bringing back the memories now. Hopefully we'll get an official announcement about Alien: Isolation's Switch release date soon, as it's currently listed with a hazy 2019 window, but this rating suggests it could be in our hands within the next few months, if not weeks.
This one is interesting. It was one of the earliest PBR titles on older generation, and ran well on 360. So theoretically it should be a good Switch port.
Interesting, it ran well on 360 but it kinda looked bad compared to PC. I'm curious about it, but will probably run at 30 fps as usual, lazy port... IIRC PS4 version runs at 30fps, it was a lazy port even though i remember headshot praising it when it was released as one of the first ps4 game, and he was like
Remember, I always was a console defender, but when a shitty 2012 PC with a crappy geforce can run it with all bells and whistles in 1080p @ 60FPS but a PS4 can't, you know it's bad a port.
Dev lock to 30fps too easily these days, I freaking hate it.
Please let's this one have a "performance" mode so at least we can downgrade it to 240p

I dont think it needs to be 60fps. Its not a fast game or a shooter. They must have done a trade off with the fps to ensure the game looked good and in my opinion it does look good. I played this for about an hour last night and havent even met the alien yet lol. Maybe tonight although Im still very much heavily invested in Shadow of Mordor! The audio is also super awesome with my 7.1 Sony Gold Wirless headphones!

I'm sure they could have the Tegra run it at 60FPS if they are putting efforts in this, but yeah they wont, the game is 30fps on all platforms except PC sadly.
I hate Nintendo's policy of continuously ripping off gamers by not carrying over NES and SNES games between platforms. It's ridiculous - it's the same fucking game! Nintendo are utter scum and I don't get why they keep getting away with this. Take the Wii thing: any games you bought died with your Wii.

Hooooly fuck, it actually looks great, all things considered! I mean, you can clearly see the hardware's limitations - the number of people on the streets in Novigrad is quite low, for example, as is the draw distance. Some of the textures could be better too. BUT I definitely didn't expect to see something like THAT. Honestly, it's a small miracle it runs and looks like it does.
I'll be a little more critical, unfortunately. From the video, I fear it's very low resolution and low fps on demanding areas on handheld. It seems a lot of LOD pop in (https://youtu.be/QNcHI8mm9gI?t=199). Textures are very low res. I always go on about PBR, but it has all the symptoms. If you run Skyrim on Switch, textures are nowhere near as washed out as this (or other PBR third party titles), and the reason is a much simpler drawing pipeline, whereas a PBR requires a lot more memory per material (due to many layers needed to compose). They always have to resort to the "oh it's a lower resolution screen so it doesn't show as much" excuse which is BS. And they are comparing it to Ark? Look at Skyrim, it's enough. They say that geometry is the same as on PS4. That makes a lot of sense, since modern games have mostly stopped pushing geometry. They rely on shader tricks to hide that. On Switch, either due to the very low resolution or some of the shaders disabled.
They keep saying "ambition" and "ambitious". You know what would have been actually ambitious? Rewriting the renderer to actually be suitable for the Switch, that doesn't resort to mush graphics. That's ambition to me, not getting to run something that shouldn't be running.
I just don't see the point in these "miracle" ports, sorry.
this will probably only appeal to people who haven't played the game yet
for me, the only reason i'd get it on the switch is to have something to do when traveling. but it's probably going to look like ass and will probably eat up the battery
