Kalypso Media has announced that it has secured all rights to the highly-acclaimed fan-favourite gaming IP, Commandos. Commandos is a stealth-oriented real-time tactics game series set in World War 2, and Kalypso will re-release some older games to current-gen platforms and will start working on a brand new title. The acquisition also covers other games by Commandos dev Pyro Studios, such as Imperial Glory and Praetorians.
Now that it owns the IP, Kalypso says it will develop new Commandos games "for all platforms", as well as release "an extensive adaptation of the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms."
Ignacio Pérez, founder of Pyro Studios, said: “We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time. Kalypso has great expertise and experience with rebooting well-known titles, and we are delighted to have our IP in such good hands.”
Simon Hellwig, founder and managing director of Kalypso, added:
“We have great respect for what the Pyro Studios team have accomplished and created throughout the history of the studio. We see it as our responsibility to revive and further develop these beloved games for fans around the world. Of course, this will include the development of a completely new game for all platforms, but also an extensive adaptation of the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms. We’re incredibly excited about the opportunities, and will begin speaking to potential development studios in the near future.”

Indeed, with today's market it's damn hard to be optimistic especially when it comes to this genre, Kalypso isn't the worst option all things considered but given their priorities expectations are very low. When it comes to a new installment Mimimi Productions/Daedalic would have been the perfect match, their Shadow Tactics truly was a fine addition since they perfectly knew what they were doing.
One thing is for sure, a Commandos 2 with its extreme micro-management, inventory and depth will never be replicated ever again. We'll have to inevitably settle for a compromise - Life of a PC Gamer in 201X: Chapter I
(Poor Jack O'Hara definitely deserves redemption, he didn't participate to the Strike Force disaster mission but he still suffered with us all )
Best case scenario: It ends up being something like Shadow Tactics
Worst case: Tablet/console ridden garbage
The Shadow Tactics guys put a lot of thought into it though. They made a pretty good compromise between KB/M + gamepads. You can read about it here if you're interested:

WWII vehicles and weapons, including jeeps, tanks, trucks, ships, bazookas and flame-throwers.
With Commandos it seems odd to not start with the first game but I guess they feel this may not have enough nostalgia to make it through all the games as a remaster series.
Curious about the reworked controls and UI though, that could be interesting if done right as long as the classic deep micro-management is left intact.
If they keep Spain's spanish dub then FTW, else FTFAIL....

Commandos 2 was a lot easier (and shorter) than Commandos, which I remember was very disappointing. I think the first is still the better (puzzle) game, like the first Desperados.
The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.
And you may pour us away like soup. Like we're pretty broken flowers.
We'll take back what is ours. One day at a time.
