Quote: | Moore addressed an issue that isn't usually given much thought, arguing that PC games packaging needs to be standardized. "I go into retail outlets to look at PC games, and quite frankly, it's a mess. We need to make the last three feet of the sale - the reach and grab - much easier by driving a retail standard around the world." |
What a stupid staement. Noone wants to see their shelt with exact same voxes ala console. Sure it looks nice, but when I buy a PC game I like to open up a bit of cardboard, take out a big manual and then take out a DVD case before I get to the game! Some companies release theirs in the same cases i.e. sierra classics and sold out but I don't think as a consume we go 'wow that shelf looks really uneven'. WoW has an amazing box and it does show that certain companies DO care about their packaging.
Those companies that don't want to spend an extra 10p on packaging in order to drive a sale is their loss. there's no need to cut down the whole market to the same DVD cases because in the past it was never really like that.

such BS. if you read the full transcript he says sorry you pc guys we were much too focused on xcox360 but now we are paying attention to you....and then he leaps into a spiel for the rest of the damn speech about the great things they have planned for their pretty new little console. ms execs need to all fuck off and die.

the thing is, linux is rapidly gaining marketshare and seeing how easy it has become to install and use and how competitive the gui is for most distributions, there is only one thing that seperates win from nix. And thats games.
I guess they just want to shove it down consumers throats by bundling halo2 with vista, that windows is the gamers pimp. I wonder if people will start debating launch-titles for operating systems in the future like they do with consoles, hehehehe
And if the pc is our daddy now, where is crimson skies 2, you bitches? If you dont port that to vista i ll suicide bomb the microsoft hq into oblivion

Windows is going to die soon.
it's only matter of time. people will understand soon why to pay lots of cash for Closed Source OS what you can't do anything -- everything's limited.
they will realize soon, that you can get Linux for free and Open Source after all.
Linux is looking right now for "User Friendly" states as well, so soon Linux will be good CLI OS as well as User Friendly to noobs.
what's the point with Microsoft anyway?
Vista is just another Windows XP with updated GUI -- eats now videocard for Aero effect and more ram. it's just sick, dudes.
Windows don't use all of your ram and it's slow that way. Linux participate all of your ram to OS. so, when something is going to slow your PC, then it can take more of your ram from cache.
fuck, Die Gates.

soon you will get teh simplest OS for noobs and very powerful (open source) for Pro's as well.
think logically. and it's free.

Dude are you stupid... ?
Do you really believe that Linux will ever be as popular as Windows... It'll never happen... Game and software developers will always prefer windows... and so will I... no matter what ppl say, how linux is better it simply is not true... Windows almost never hungs my PC, it works really great for many days... there a great support for it... many games and programs, drivers for everything... I would take IBM's OS or MacOS before I'd install Linux and use it daily... Ppl don't like Microsoft because thay are jalous of what they acheved, I think Microsoft is a great and succesful company with lots of great programs, and they will never die, no matter what shit comes up for free...

They WERE a good company. Now they're deffo going down the drain. Linux just needs to become 'mainstream'. Look at firefox. That's the type of thing that could easily happen IF such a compariable linux is released. Noone will pay for windows when they can get a better working model for free. Linux is relatively new to the mass, but given enough force companies will have to compensate for both (and eventually the most popular). Look at mac. That owns a tiny percentage of the game playing market but it manages to get ports. I can easily forsee a compatability for linux working too. Afterall many games get official linux server files anyay!
I can easily see in 10 years microsoft will be a games console company still as well as an OS maker for entertainers. i.e. media center PC's. It could even take a nice of video editing like macs = graphical design. Then again it could drive to be a games playing OS like it already is with this supposed file organisation. They're options but it's still too early to tell and there is certainly a lot of life left in vista even before it's launched.

Linux completely has potential to become a mainstream desktop OS. It has a gui, and lots of tools to make things easy to manage. As easy as windows. You forget that most people can't operate the gui in windows, so giving them a command-line doesn't really hinder things.
What stands in Linux's way right now is this:
1)Dependencies - Open Source is great, but its always a crap shoot to see if you have xxx package for whatever it is you want to make
2)Support - Support is sketchy on some things. Somethings its great, other things you could go weeks without solving. The community as a whole really needs to ste up and make a committment to better support people with issues, especially the developers themselves. I"ve had a number of issues in Linux that I've had an extremely hard time finding support on. Even spending hours on google with the error messages. On average I'd say 50% of my threads on Fedoraforum don't resolve with a satisfactory answer to the issue.
3) World wide adoption - This is becoming less of an issue since open source tends to support all kinds of formats.
4)Industry adoption - This is coming around, slowly. There are many commercial games for Linux. Some that are exclusively so. As it improves, so will linux's profile.
5)With greater power, comes greater problems - As linux becomes more popular, it will have more issues. Virus writers will begin targeting it, spyware writers doing the same, etc.
6)and lastly - ease of use. This is a big one. This needs to be set up so that the average user can install a program with a couple clicks and thats it. Stuff needs to work, and not break random things. For example I upgraded my xorg desktop to add 3D acceleration to my linux system. In doing so, ACPID daemon now fails to start if xorg starts first (which it does). I have to boot the system to command line, then start the GUI manually to have it work okay. Its a known issue, but there doesn't seem to be a fix available for it. Stuff like this can't exist.
Linux needs some extremely hard work for the next year or two to really improve the over-all state of the system and maybe even create a "LinuxHome" distrobution that has wide built in support for many types of hardware (people don't want to be building their own drivers and the headaches that come with that) that really provides "Everything" someone wants, and with easy tools to get the things they'd want beyond that. Make it painless and people will use it. I'd like to give it to several family members, but I can't be there everyday when they have an issue.
