Producer on The Witcher Netflix Series Talks Up the Show’s Focus on Inclusivity
Quote:
“The books are Polish and packed with Slavic spirit. It was important to keep that same tone in our show,” Hissrich said. “With that in mind, I asked around (especially to Polish friends): can the Slavic culture be reduced solely down to skin color? The answer was resounding: god, we hope not.”
Oh snap, they used the S word - someone get Waargh his anxiety medication!
I remember a time when things just "were"..
If a person truly is tolerant, then he/she would have no problems tolerating mostly/all-white cast, for example. I've enjoyed plenty of all-asian movies, all-black movies, movies with all-female protagonists. I couldn't care less that these movies didn't portray ME, or someone similar, why would it be important? I must have missed the part where "you can't enjoy it unless your exact personality is portrayed."
Damn, so many movies and books enjoyed, and for all the wrong reasons
An idea would be to "include" when it makes sense, not because you're forced to because otherwise extremely intolerant people will make angry tweets (and also, maybe never hire one of these angry tweeters to direct movies or series because they're clearly people with agendas and twisted ideas.)
This is the world today - every fucking minority who identifies as an attack chopper or a pink submarine demands inclusivity. Therefore the battles are fought everywhere as this brings de moneyz. Nobody seems to care that men take hormones and compete in women sports winning obviously because of being a man. It's like going back to school when being 50 and owning all those stupid kids there
Funny thing tho - in Cyberpunk 2020 sourcebook (i think it's that one) there is a bit about why did the society hit rock bottom or maybe the earth's core is more like it. Many parts of the society wanted to be special and to have a better social position than others. And so they did
As for The Witcher - the trailer screams Game Of Thrones-wannabe. Maybe it's just an impression but i don't really think so. Early in the trailer we see black Dryads with some social commentary in the background (may be not related tho) and all i could do is just sigh. So it begins.
What is incredible is that some Poles are making a fan Witcher movie and the trailer is much better. Not sure if intended but they even have a guy who looks a bit like Mads who many wanted as The Witcher
EDIT: If they really wanted the show to scream "Slav!" they should have gone with adidas enthusiasts cheeki-breeking and enjoying all those vodkas.

I kinda find this offensive (similarly as using russian voiceactors for czech folk in last deus ex) much more than something as irrelevant as black dryad .

That's the twit-ter world, 'murica and maybe the UK. Everywhere else it's still the "real" world

Now I'm pretty sure they will have a hard bass track somewhere in the show.
According to now-deleted posts, Witcher fans have 97 sleepless nights ahead until season one of the much-anticipated series drops.
According to the post, which has since been removed, season one is a mere 97 days away, which should land the release date on December 17, 2019.
So the women are the lead in a few episodes and then Henry is. Nothing wrong with doing multiple perspectives. GoT did it well.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Nothing wrong with introducing him as a mysterious figure in the first couple of episodes and then bringing him to the foreground.
If people think they paid all the Hollywood money to cast him, only to have him be a background character in this, I have to and

"Hissrich took inspiration from Sapkowski who told her about the hardship and enduring strength of Polish women during World War II. With many men falling during the fighting, Polish women assumed an important role."
Lol, same shit as with Battlefield V wahmen. While the above statement is true and there were many female heroines, they weren't nearly as many of them as men. The answer to this is always about a russian female sniper, female pilots or women working in factories making parts for Spitfires. All true but it's not representative for the war as a whole.
I hope the show won't be "empowered wahmen and those evil men", though the stars point in that direction. It's enough to look at the showrunners twitter profile
The trailer is releasing today. Maybe we will get to know. But it's almost guaranteed to be December 17.

I don't feel any Witcher vibes here (books and/or games). Like literally zero. The setting (visually etc) feels all wrong. + some actors were definitely miscast.
Even the old Polish TV show had more in common with the books in this regard than this trailer.
They could have just named the show Legolas The Bulky.
