That and there's always a nice, warm feeling whenever you play on a new server, everyone is low level and goes for the same starting quests and all the shenanigans that go with them (people cooperating or fucking with each other), making the world feel very much alive.
A long-lived server doesn't feel quite the same, hubs are less populated save for afk vendors, everyone is already geared up to the max. Modern WoW has a lot of automation with party/raid search that are time-saving, but remove that layer of interaction.
L2 private servers constantly do wipes in order to keep players interested, but that interest falls off after a couple of months for these reasons.

If you don't go to AH and spend all your gold every 2 levels, there should be no problems affording the mount.
My specs:

Pay up real money, you filthy cheapskate...
Or worse: play and farm BFA.

AH and old mythic dungeons+raids... but like I said before: it takes less effort and boredom by just paying up.
I guess we can soon expect a post with: WTS 60 'whatever class' classic account

AH in BFA is dead. It's damn hard to sell almost anything nowadays.

That is all depending on your server's economy.

This.
Also, some servers are heavily populated while others not so much and that plays a big role on AH. Even in classic, when I run the Trade Skill Master /tsm scan utility, difference between some servers can be as much as 20k + AH listings.

Our sever was just fine after BFA launch (Kul Tiras). Made all my money through the AH and was able to sell almost any shit... I'm not gonna move now to another server, just because people stopped playing...
Even Bregvids had a video about this problem affecting the game. The fact that "some" heavily populated servers are not (that) affected, doesn't change the situation for many people.
When you repeatedly post dozens of different items on the AH and NOTHING sells after 48 hours, you know something's fucked up in the game, 'populated' servers or not.
_
It doesn't matter anyway. I stopped playing BFA many months ago and Classic a few weeks ago.
BFA is a mess and Classic is not the same thing as it was at launch. Everyone is now engaged in the 'rat race' again. People are rushing dungeons like crazy, have no patience (I am a mage that needs mana drinks every fights or so), they stopped being as nice as at the start of the game, no more buffing from players... In a word, the happy welcome back trend is gone.
Or simply... the game is not for me anymore. I just can't do this shit anymore - rushing everything with only farming and items in mind. No one seems to play simply for the pleasure of it.

Maybe people just don't like you.
Can't say I experience much stuff like that. On Horde side on my server the majority wants to work together and are easy going with helping/buffing/healing each other even when not in party.
There's areshole's everywhere but can't say they are the majority. Not even in BFA. Just more people keeping to themselves in BFA... which isn't a bad thing per say.
There's plenty of times I'm enjoying being on my own (introvert after all) and if such behaviour bothers you... maybe start conversations with randoms? People usually just don't want to take the first step. And that goes for any game btw... that's not just MMO's or WoW.

That's fucking sad, man... That's my impression too.
@Morphineus
Introvert or not, socializing (even at a minimum level) and playing together with other people makes the whole experience more pleasant. And in Classic grouping most of the time is mandatory and it makes the gameplay much smoother. Not to mention that LOTS of times, one MUST get a group to complete quests.
People are playing the game like they played BFA: solo mode. Refusing to party, talk, respond. I don't know what the hell happened to this community and how it became so estranged.
I am not a very social person myself, but I DO enjoy playing and chatting with other people, now and then. But... most of these people just keep to themselves so much that is really weird / even unpleasant.
And now, that most of them turn slowly into 'bot farmers / grinders' - like mentioned - there is really not much reason - for me - to try and search for a general, different, social, fun, casual experience. Almost everyone gets dragged AGAIN(!) in the damn rat race. It's like... they didn't learn that what remains is the experience as a whole, the funny chats and moments shared with other people make the journey unforgettable.

pvp server = unfriendly assholes mostly, cleaving and grinding just for xp and items
pve server = mostly friendly people, but also most of them mental handicapped. let it be because they are old, just slow in the head or really handicapped.
too bad there is nothing in between

You'd think that age / time made those people a bit wiser, open or simply a tad more aware...
It's in their damn interest to play most of the game as a group and make some connections with people for fast and pleasant hard content / dungeon runs.

My point was: Have you initiated chats/groups yourself? Because I really don't have a problem grouping up and having random talks with people I meet. It takes some effort, can't expect it to just happen.
It's the same reason why I find it important to buff others, help others when you see they pulled too many in the open world. Because only by showing 'nice behaviour' will they start thinking of being more like that as well.
Anywho, community is also very server based so maybe I got lucky and you didn't... though Pickupartist was whining as well and he is on the same server (but only playing Alliance maybe?).
Why frei derps about PvE people being mentally handicapped I don't get though, maybe he wants to be his usual special arseholeflake again. The dumb as shit 'us vs them' mentality you'd usually find in marginal football fans. :>

I dunno about you, I just did the Warrior quest to get that uber whirlwind weapon:
https://classic.wowhead.com/guides/warrior-class-quests-classic-wow#whirlwind-weapons-and-cyclonian
A Horde troll was trolling around while I tried to farm for the charms. Once I got all the stuff and summoned the final elite mob, that high level horde troll (I was alliance human warrior) helped us defeat it. Great experience!
So far I'm enjoying the shit out of the classic game. Is it pure vanilla? fuck no, but good enough.
I'm on Westfall server.

It might be the server and it's 'cultural DNA'.
Even if I invite people in groups while they clearly struggle in various areas with too many mobs, they still are cold and in a hurry to be done with the quest and very quickly disband.
They don't think about the NEXT step of the quest or the NEXT situation where being in a group is a must or a huge advantage. Not to mention to run a dungeon with someone who is being polite / nice / supportive.
I also offer water and food without them asking, I allow them to loot chests before me, I use "Hey', 'Thanks', 'No problem' always, yet they still hurry back to the solo experience.
Fuck me, and I though "I" was an introvert... What do you know: I am the fucking spirit of the party!

most "mmo"s are like this, wow is particularly bad because there's no reason to rely on other people. long story short, no one actually wants to actually play multiplayer in the first place, and i feel like this is the reason why current mmos need to die so we can have more community-based mmos and less theme park ones.

Yea, it's probably - like I said too - the community itself. I remember being pretty bad / toxic in lots of cases in previous WoW versions, not only BFA.
So I guess most of these entitled brats and adults are now migrating towards an unexpected, sensational, more powerful classic drug. One can see that there is a number of people that would like to take it easy and play it differently, but are bullied and forced to go with the massive flow of grinding derps.
The first dungeon run for me, in Deadmines, was shit. We had a rogue that was rushing everything through pulls and speed. I tried to slow him down and he reacted bad, ofc. He started some indirect insults and decided to not spoil the atmosphere for the other players with a fight. It was interesting that he also seemed an older player though his dialogue and experience.
At the end of the dungeon I found out that the rest of the players didn't enjoy the fast pacing either, but they didn't fucking said a damn thing. It's pretty sad, as it's a reflection of some realities.
