Ad AStra (2019) 8/10

Slow paced sci-fi thriller...very nice in my book. Maybe a bit too melodramatic at times and people very rarely smile in this movie, but the atmosphere and suspension is there.

Watchmen (2009) 7.5/10

I constantly postponed watching this until now that the HBO/Lindelof show is coming. I really enjoyed it, plenty of interesting characters and great R-rated action sequences. Not without its problems, like for instance the Deus Ex Machina moment where Dr. Manhattan suddenly cares about humanity (not that it changed anything), but all in all I found it much more enjoyable than all the Avengers crap.

Now anticipating what kind of mind clusterfuck the Lindelol has crafted this time around Laughing

Some entertaining scenes but nothing more. Mirren was good.

Ad Astra - 7/10

It's a good movie, but at times a bit overly dramatic and odd.

It has potential, but it was wasted. I expected an amazing journey with wonders, but it was nothing but a strictly personal one with not many interesting developments at all.

Sad indeed. As much as I liked the idea of Brad Pitt (maturing actor getting better and better) traveling the space I suspected what you say is true just after the first reviews appeared (non-spoilery ones). And it's sold as a journey with wonders if you see artwork like this:

I think I'll give it a pass.

Detective Pikachu - 3.5/10

Well... that wasn't good. It tries to be funny but the jokes don't really land, and the lead's acting is bad.. But very good Pokemon CGI!

Ad Astra - 8/10
It was beautiful and very relaxing. I loved it.
Very unique, slow movie. Similar to inserstellar but more personal and maybe a bit less boring. Not sure if I want to watch it again but it was for sure beautiful.

Now imagine if instead of Brad Pit it was a sad golden retriever traveling the universe looking for his master. Sad dog face lookin out into space. 11/10 if I imagine that Very Happy
That said - fucking hell... women say they have it difficult because women in the internet create impossible beauty standards. Meanwhile I am supposed to look like a Brad Pitt. I swear - he looks incredible and his acting was also good in this movie but holy crap does he better and better with age. Once upon a time in Hollywood and now this. I have a man boner for him Laughing

Awful

Very bland movie with bad acting and shitty lighting - very bright, makes cheap props even more cheap. That said, watched till the end thanks to super cute Amy Manson

Ad Astra 7/10

There was much to like about this movie but a few things annoyed me so much, I couldnt give it a better score.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

lol.. had to read up about Ad Astra.. so they claim toxic masculinity in space movies. Ok, great. What's Pit doing in the movie then, i guess he must play some type of victim then, saved by a strong waman. But really? Some of the best space movies out there has a woman lead role, all the alien movies, contact, gravity, arrival.. there's plenty but yes just like action movies it's a male dominated genre, which i would think is a pretty normal outcome for the genre depending on what you want to portray and who you want to appeal to.

I usually like all sci-fi and space movies, my favorite genre (but especially if mixed with horror).. one i did not particularly like though was Interstellar, if this is similar in tone then i doubt its for me though + if there's some type of message of toxic masculinity in the movie itself then yeah, total skip..

Nothing about toxic masculinity in this movie. I dont understand where that comes from again. Rolling Eyes

Ad Astra - wasn't bad but it had the overall feel of a movie I would expect to see in Cannes or some similar environment.
