The most important side quest in the game is bugged for me along with another quest that should be completed but it isn't. What a lovely thing. I completely lost the will to play this. The game drags for too long anyway with nothing to show for but recycled bosses.

I''m never going to finish this, because I'm just tired of Dark Souls masochistic formula, but I have to say that the first few hours were incredibly addictive. The combat is actually very good, especially with a gamepad. Parrying with L1 and right stick, dodging around, selecting different body parts, brutal slo-motion with heads and limbs flying around - it all feels surprisingly satisfying. It was actually quite difficult to stop playing after doing one round after another, trying different weapons and banking credits to get more stuff.
The level design with various shortcuts reminds me of Dark Souls 1. I also like the atmosphere and the setting, but I can see already how the game gets really annoying and hard later on - each enemy encounter is quite challenging so you just can't brainlessly button smash your way through the game DMC 5 style and that's when I'm not going to torture myself anymore and simply quit like I did with Sekiro, but these first 5-10 hours were quite amazing indeed.

The first real boss is ridiculous.
It's hard to dodge his shit coz of his erratic movements and his size and most of the time I couldn't hit him coz the distance was larger than it seemed.
Another thing... the music and his screams are infuriatingly annoying...

Dodge is underwhelming, probably because they focused more on block/parry.

@Nodrim
It has been working fine against normal mobs..it's not working that good vs this boss..mostly coz of the way he is designed..
PS Fuck this boss.. sometimes I don't even see a hit coming my way coz of the camera...and dodging doesn't seem to have iframes..

Yeah, dodge sux on boss fights or against fast enemies. It's lagging behind somehow.

Getting heals only when hitting enemies is a fucked-up system..so I start a boss fight with 0 heals....unless I farm mobs before it..which I'm not in the mood to do.
Uninstalled. I don't have time for this crap.
Code Vein here I come.

I just beat the last boss. The fight came as a validation for many of the game's problems. I was unable to play it clean, I think two attacks can't even be dodged which is a weird design choice to say the least. However, facetanking with block worked like a charm...
I think they tried to do too much and accomplished too little. All the cool new features like a bigger and more diverse world or directional block come with serious drawbacks. Performance is a mess, responsiveness is questionable and the world is full of glitches and not very interesting. Even the story is a total cringy mess.
The game is unpolished which is a shame because it has many qualities, but the new ideas needed more time in the oven.

2 hits? It depends on the weapon used.

I find the exploration in this game really tedious. It's all just building ruins, filled with clutter and doodads. I honestly have a really hard time memorizing all the routes and shortcuts in order to traverse this game. DS1 did this so much better. Yes, the levels were a lot less "detailed", but it actually made it better gameplay-wise. The fact that you can see where you need to go from afar really helped. Same with Bloodborne, it was very clear at a glance where the fuck you are, and when the game puts you in a level that is very "monotone" by nature, it's very linear. Take the forest in BB vs. Gideon Park. One is pretty much a straight path to the end with fork roads here and there. Gideon Park gives you a pathetic map and put you in a level with all sorts of verticality, shortcuts, and no distinctive landmarks.
I literally just fumble my way through this game's levels. See a door I unlock it, then I just keep fucking going, and hope at some point I'll progress the game. I don't fucking bother with the side quests because I can't be arsed to comb each level and risk getting lost backtracking just to turn in. But to the game's credit, I've never actually got lost and run around like a headless chicken, there's always something happening to let you know you're not walking in circles.

Finished it. The first souls-like game I actually managed to finish. Really liked it, but maybe the story could be better. Anyway, easy recommendation from me if anyone's looking for "souls-lite" game or simply a bit more demanding action RPG.

I grabbed my trusty red Spark body gear and punched my way through the game as well (took me ~21 hours), it definitely tickled my Dark Sci-soulsian fancy
The first Surge was a pleasant surprise, albeit partially hindered by the restricted variety. Good news is, this sequel provides more diverse environments (from multi-layered city streets to underground facilities, gardens, dystopian towers and so on), based upon a complex level design that's ridiculously dense and jam-packed with shortcuts, a lot of verticality, goodies and surprise motherfucker surgemachinemen waiting to reduce you into a pile of scrap. Enemies still do repeat themselves and the writing ranges from uninspired to downright silly, but the game really shines when it comes to pure exploration and sense of discovery. There are also quite a few reactive NPCs with related mini-quests, an interesting addition despite some of them being virtual chores.
The signature physicality with focus on selective dismemberment still works well, and I liked the idea of adding a new Sekiro-like timing-based parry technique (the recommended way to beat bosses without using the dioporco implant ), though I agree with Yondy about the delayed auto-chaining combos + recharging which indeed made standard encounters a bit too mundane.
In order to be able to play at a decent framerate I had to select the peasant medium details (quite unjustified given that the visuals and lighting are about as obsolete as my rig), but thankfully the art-style is consistently inspired and makes up for the technical shortcomings. The m&kb combo works fine as well which is always a positive. All in all this Surge 2.0 is a solid sequel in my opinion, it brings wonky tonal changes and some structural oddities, but also several needed improvements. *7 bags of scraps and a half/10*, hoping to see the ultimate darker and sexier Surge the Third in the future. Praise the scrap!

Any screenshots with the differences? If it was that noticeable then it's pretty weird

My biggest problem with this game is difficulty - it's way, waaaay too easy for a soulslike. I literally only had problems with one boss (the first real one, you could say), but managed to beat him handily as soon as I understood where the other two coolant carnisters were. Didn't need to parry a single strike either (the need to learn that came later, though, along with Gaia bots), just dodging and well timed attacks.
Rest of the game was really easy. At some points I literally just clicked through normal enemies, since they were't able to hurt me fast enough to negate my healing ability (there's even an implant that lets you generate energy when you get hurt, which makes things even more ridiculous). I pretty much facerolled every boss, excluding one copy-pasta optional (beat him too, it just required at least some effort). Last guy was a joke, I don't think the fight lasted longer than a minute. I then tried the New Game+ mode, but as soon as you reach your gear, it becomes even easier, despite some more powerful enemy types here and there. The sword you get for killing the last boss is partly the reason - its insane impact and high damage let you pretty much stun lock most normal foes, sometimes destroying whole groups without any fear whatsoever. I'll be damned if it isn't fun to wield, though.
In the end, it's a solid game, better than the first one by a good margin. Sadly, it isn't necesarilly for the people who are most likely to buy it. It's a good introduction into the genre, however.

Meh, how about improving the (apparently poor) performance and fixing the remaining bugs first, assholes?

Completed the game, performance was great and didn't encounter any bugs to speak of. Nice game btw, recommended.
I understand that bugs and performance issues may exist, but to the best of my understanding they're not extremely common.

Huh, took me a while to realize that the game runs via vulkan, that was why it wasn't picking up my old-ish RTSS set FPS counter
Unfortunately I'm having some crashes... any way to force it to dx12? Strange that I'm not finding much info about it online
