What should we change the title of the topic to, to make that post relevant?
btw. I dare you to actually look up the article and see that in the first paragraph the colours are mentioned again. Phew...
Also: 1. Systemic violence and discrimination against people of colour is still a thing in the US.
2. 12 y olds lying and using prejudices to gain attention is as real as always. Nobody cares, except the press looking for stories and people getting emotional over a colorized fart.
3. Wake up sheeple, NYTimes is liberal.
Now since this is clearly off-topic, go get another thread to post your shit in.

This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

"SJWs and mainstream media gone crazy"
Because that's the underlying current what led to Gamergate becoming so big and vilified in the first place. Any anti-white, anti-male message gets broadly reported on with little to no evidence OR fact checking done. Any anti-non-white or anti-female message gets defended or buried or twisted or the race / gender doesn't get mentioned or they go in counter-offence and attack the white and/or male victims. It's been like that for many years now.
A few years ago, Belgian newspapers decided to no longer point towards the ethnicity of people in their articles because they found it racist. In reality, it was mostly because nearly all of the papers are left-leaning and led by left-leaning parties and since the big majority of articles involving crime featured immigrants or non-whites, they feared that right-wing parties would benefit. THIS is journalism today. Let's not make people come up with their own conclusions - let's hide the truth so they can't.
Ironically, most people now just assume ALL crimes they read about are done by immigrants and non-whites because it's more likely to be the case . It gets so bad that when people actually hear it's not an immigrant they're surprised.

Gamergate WAS fake news you dolt. At least the portrayal of it was. The entire topic exists because of fake news.

So is the topic "Fake news" (which, again, this NYTimes tidbit wasnt) or is it GG?
Because as I see it. GG is necessarilly fake news, but fake news isnt necessarily GG. In other words: Its off topic.

True but GG is a specific kind of fake news - it's SJW pandering and SJW's influencing popular media which I see as one big topic. GG is just a symptom sadly enough and often the same people are involved.
The moment you pay attention, it's incredibly how almost everything has become propaganda for political or ideological motives.

But its happening on both sides of the spectrum and I see it mostly in the US. I dont feel affected by this and I wouldnt know about it if it wasnt for the GG thread here, since I dont read Gaming-journalism or US american media.
And its always been the case that journalism was coloured in some way, depending on party affiliation and funding. Thats nothing new, and its not fake news.
I tend to read german and french media from the traditional right to the left spectrum and I am quite used to noticing why some particular journalist leaves out this tidbit but uses this other point of view. Like I said, it has always been this way with journalism. You've got to be on your toes all the time.

Fake news rely on the title to set the stage. Very often the content of the article contradicts the title, it doesn't matter, as long as an impression is made. And most people read only the headlines, especially when sharing on twitter.
NY Times is anti-white fake news.

But its not fake. There is a tendency, yes. Its not fake. Every headline since forever in every conceivable journal ever displays a political tendency. Some more pronounced than others, of course. You act like this is the first time you’re confronted with a headline.

Hence this split.

The image compares the mention of race in the original story and no mention of race when it is reported as a race baiting hoax.

You're grasping at some really weak straws now. In fact, I'm not sure what you're trying to say with your last post. What's the reasoning behind your comparison between the two different articles by two different authors about a case in two very different stages? Yeah, I know, your pants are on fire whenever you're close to being able to act out your inner racist but keep it in your pants cowboy.

So they are not liberal? Is that what you are saying? What are they then?

Yeah, well that person is clearly anti-white racist. Judging from the six tweets you posted, she seems to be quite obsessed.
But it still doesnt make your first picture fake-news (Which is what we were talking about). And the second headline seems politically motivated, like 100.000 headlines in thousands of journals so far and for all time to come. Not fake news. Yes, they could have added the skin colors. But they chose not to, because they were not impartial to what they wanted readers to percieve in the headlines. You know, like all journals ever, whether left or right. But its not fake-news.
In my opinion you're just as obsessed as that girl on twatter. Sad.

This is the source for this picture : https://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2019/10/01/new-york-times-revises-headline-to-remove-racial-designations-from-a-bullying-incident-found-to-be-a-hoax/
Would have been nice of you to share VGA !
Interesting article and a really nice intellectual level in the comments (some of them way more interesting than the article itself) - looks like a very good place to have a proper debate.
Honestly, I have no clue why the NYT thinks it's a good idea to report such a small-scale story to begin with, a good sign of how low even the most reputable news outlets will go in order to get clicks and views - with a rather strong hint of bias.
Furthermore, the story was not confirmed, but could easily be due to video surveillance being present in that school. Caution in such cases should be the norm for such a newspapers - tabloids and the likes can have lower standards.
Finally, while the titles can be justified, I wouldn't completely exonerate the NYT here. You can feel that "we fucked up" guilt since they replaced the original title with the updated one.
All in all, the NYT is not on a good slope at the moment, and that saddens me quite a lot.
And that journalist.. well, she claims it was done in order to mock alt-right rethoric, which might well be the case, I don't really care about her. However, I have a hard time thinking that she would have been hired had the tweets been directed at any other ethnic group, even on the pretence of satire.
I personally don't believe every offensive thing written on the Internet should be held against anyone, but either they don't care about Twitter post history, or they do. No unclear double standard that creates an in-between. Well, she's been warned not to do it again..
I don't want to be complacent or cynic towards the NYT's attitude. A number of us want to defend it because of what it usually stands for, and what an overwhelming portion of their work remains.
When the political power goes nuts, the press should be there in order to safeguard, not follow suit. It's because they have such high responsibility and usually high standards that I don't find this fiasco excusable.
Fox News and the likes can be shit all it wants, everyone and their mother knows it is shit.
We all know why VGA targets the NYT so with that meme picture off his Twitter feed, but has no issue routinely linking objectively worse news outlets though

Good find and nice read!
Some people want a debate and some people just want to polarize. Thats the difference.
