Give me some linear games., I'm getting tired of open world borefests.
Same. Would rather play linear game than copy-pasted boring open world for namesake games. 8/10 open-world games are complete shite/pointless and other 2 are from Rockstar.

Funny thing is, Rockstar games could easily be linear
Not a lot of people would play a linear GTA or RDR, would be a completely different feel. Linear missions and open world is a good balance imo.. you can mess around in the open world, have a bit of your own stupid adventures and mayhem and when bored you can do linear missions, which is very different.
but the reason why rockstar games are better open world games is because they are heavily focused on story, which feels more like a linear game than any other open world games from other devs
Anywho, its not so much about linear or open world (there's plenty of 'linear' games I find as crap). It's what you do with it. Sadly most people think about Ubi crap when they say open world these days.
With RDR2 and Death Stranding being open world i wouldn't mind some linear experience too. This surely wont be among the best games from this year, but it should be decent enough for one playthrough. And since ruski price 1 year premier sub was too tempting the denuvo wont be a problem here (Not that i don't have massive backlog)
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D / MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER / ASRock B650 PRO RS / Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 / G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 2x16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 / Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB / SeaSonic VERTEX GX-850 850W Gold / Lian Li LANCOOL 216
At the end of the day quality games are those that transcend their nature by providing satisfying mechanics regardless of the structure. Soulless grindy open world games are for me as bad as the automatic hollylinear ones, while rewarding well-crafted open worlds are as entertaining as having solid narrative-based experiences that don't insult the player's intelligence.

but they're not better, they're the worst kind. They're obsession with fucking story is the worst. The "open world" in their games is just a facade, an illusion. When the actual structure is liniar as fuck. Having a permissive and full of options design is and always was inherently better and prefered since games existed on pc and had this option. Liniarity was always bad and shat on, unless you have some mindblowing excelence in your layout, like Half Life did, or NOLF or games like this.
What we should want are open world games that are done better, not games that are built like a hallway
I agree with qqq, at least in the case of RDR2, the open world isn't better. RDR2 mission design is one of the game's biggest flaws. The missions are linear and very restrictive. This makes the whole open world pointless if you can't take advantage of the freedom it should provide. So this heavy focus on storytelling doesn't make it any better if you don't use of the world itself.
I think The Phantom Pain did a much better job with the open world design. The gameplay made use of that freedom allowing players to approach missions in different ways.

thats true, another example is l.a. noire, but i prefere this over any other repetitive missions with ubisoft games. the world should serve the story and not the other way around, rockstar creates story first then makes the world, ubisoft creates the world first then fills it with useless shit to do.
its a big difference. even if the game is open world the missions dosent have to have 10 different approaces. but outside of main missions you can do whatever in the world in how many ways you want, multiplayer too.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

yup , although no clue why they call them by Sony DADC and not Denuvo Software Solutions which is the name they got back in 2015
