Yeah:

Quote:
This inter-player economy of cooperation is driven by a voluntary system of Facebook-style “Likes” that you can drop on other players when you interact with their items and signs in your world. Accumulating Likes increases capabilities like balance and endurance, encouraging players not to leech off the goodwill of others. And while you can get Likes from standard single-player missions, the quantity pales in comparison to the bounty available from other humans if you do your part.

I find it very difficult to find appeal in this game...
I don't think it's the slow pace. Graphics look good. But the story just seems very odd. I am not a fan of Kojima, so I won't be able to see the amazing intricacies of a crazy ass story, I guess. Gameplay also seems odd. The weight shifting mechanic seems like an amusing mechanic for 10-15 minutes, then just plain annoying. The combat seems very boring and lackluster. The random human enemies showing up also seems very annoying. People were annoyed by RDR2's slow animations and animation-correct gameplay, I wonder what they will feel here. The likes mechanic looks too clunky to rely on.

People are pushing very hard the "it's art" mantra, but feels like pushing the modern "paintings" as "art". Art is different to each one.

A missed opportunity by Kojima not having this loaded with product placement for FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.

Just be aware that he is a fanboy and so is Yong Yea. I am too, so i know i will like it. But those unfamiliar with Kojima's "peculiarity" may be disappointed.

I can't wait, less than a week to go. Already took leave from work so i can play this.

EDIT: Still, ShillUp and Yong Yea do tell about cons that will put off many players who are more about the gameplay than the story. Game is easy, repetetive and has long cutscenes as far as cons go.

Same here, can't wait to play it next weekend.
I can understand the negative reviews though, I know that Kojima often has his stubborn ideas that he wants to follow up on even if everyone else tells him "no man, wtf is wrong with you?!"

That is why i respect the man. Doing this to try something different, even when it seems like he lost his damn mind. With his literal names (Die-Hardman Laughing ), strange dialogues, social media elements and all that.

We will also perhaps see if MGS V and its story was a mistake or Kojima is in freefall.

Thanks, I'll send you some likes Laughing

True, the quality of the story's resolution will ultimately shine light on the MGS5 fiasco, whether the story there was simply unfinished because he was forced out, or he just went full Kojima on the plot.

Funny thing - being positive and friendly in the interwebz is a no-no Laughing I'm kinda excited about the social element. It is something that might fit in a game where nature is your worst enemy (or one of them at least Laughing ). Reviewers do mention in dire moments they actually used something left by another player and it helped me. The trolling is obviously gonna be there, hopefully just for laughs Laughing I just hope there is some "wholesomeness" to this, something positive.

Ditto about MGS V brah

Here is a quote from Gamespot's (shocking, but yeah) review - its a summary. IMO if game is what they describe i am going to love it :

"Death Stranding is a hard game to absorb. There are many intertwining threads to its plot, and silly names, corny moments, and heavy exposition belie an otherwise very imple message. That comes through much more clearly in the game's more mundane moments, when you find a desperately-needed ladder left behind by another player or receive a letter from an NPC thanking you for your efforts. It's positive without ignoring pain; in fact, it argues in both its story and its gameplay that adversity itself is what makes things worth doing and life worth living. It's a game that requires patience, compassion, and love, and it's also one we really need right now."

IGN review makes sense because all reviewers were expected to finish the whole game before reviewing.
In the time it took them to complete it, IGN could've reviewed 20 other games they played for 3 hours Laughing

IGN has been a joke for a decade, any score they give either they were paid for or not paid for enough.

Why do so many act like he's some unknown niche entity... most gamers have played a game of his.

Because if people are familiar with his style, the "oh they just don't know Kojima's quirks" dismissal of people disliking it falls apart. Very Happy

There's no review of Death Stranding in the next issue of Edge because the embargo insisted we finish the game before we could review it. Print deadline was a factor, but we ran out of enthusiasm long before we ran out of time.

Put it this way: we probably won't be reviewing it in the following issue either.

Or put it this way: I told my wife this morning that the Death Stranding reviews were out and she said, 'Oh, is that the game about backpacks that you hated?'

Edge 339, on sale next Thursday, has a four-page preview based on 40 hours with Death Stranding. There is no number at the end.

Hurr durr he obviously got paid by Konami Laughing

But what the fuck is this "embargo", insisting journalists finish the fucking game? How can this contract even work? Or is it for press copies?

Probably because the ending is a 2 hours cutscene and supposed to be the best (and maybe only good) part of the game. And yes, it's only for the press. They probably have some kind of a unique number at the end or Kojima asks the journos for a watermarked screenshot? Laughing

even after the good critics i'm really skeptical about this game... MGS5 also was praised by the press as a masterpiece but it's nowhere near as good as MGS3 (and it's actually a boring game) which I think has ironically a worse metacritic.

Also to people saying Kojima games are a niche ? What ? Most people played MGS123, these games are not a niche at all and except for the weird story they are regular isometric stealth action game with a fixed camera (well not anymore in the re-release of MGS3).

I just love how a lot of the positive reviews basically say the gameplay is shit and the story is nonsensical, but give the game high scores anyway because KOJIMA and ART and BRAND NEW GENRE.
