I've tried fraps and precisionx, but they don't show up in game....

DX12?

Laughing

What???

Don't use it in this game, seriously!

I've got a theory on why though....Daddy Microsoft?, you would never hurt me, would you?

eeeewww, why? dx12 delivers in 99% of all cases slightly better fps but always way better min fps and frametimes (for nv cards, the difference is even with a 5700 there but not that huge). dx12 is clearly the better choice atm

Not as far as this game is concerned, sorry. My settings were posted back, now, same settings, grants me -20 fps when using DX12?, switch to Spock, and all those sweet frames return Smile

Riddled is DX, like the OS, riddled with shit.

Maybe DX detects that I'm using LTSC, and because of the lack of Telemetry to MS, they have capped my frames when trying to use DX12? Laughing

Who knows?, who fuckin cares?

It runs sweet on Spock for the moment, and I still see no reason to downgrade to the 20XX series.

Anyway, so good is this game, dying is not an option, it's way too easy now, but it's just a joy to play and control properly, a marvel at what it does, it sucks you in, if you let it, and fulfils all my boyhood dreams Smile

After reading online I was expecting the worst performance wise, gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Played a few hours and so far it uns like a dream 60+fps with no stutters (3700x/2080) on mix of ulta, high and some medium on 4k with 5/6 render scale. It looks amazing

Some people run the game better with Vulkan, some with DX12. They run pretty much within margin of error for me but DX12 crashed more often. Plus Vulkan feels more responsive. Though in Vulkan I have to enable DirectInput instead of RawInput else there are these weird stutters when holding Shift.

Unless they already fixed that, haven't checked yet.

DX12 gives me the same maximum FPS and about -10/15FPS avarage less than Vulkan, but the funny thing is that every stutter is completely gone in DX12 compared to Vulkan.

There might be a bad implementation (no shit, Sherlock) specificaly on Vulkan regarding CPU usage, hopefuly this will get fixed somehow

I had that same issue, try the Asynchronous compute trick spajdr posted a page ago if you haven't yet - just turn the value to <aSyncComputeEnabled value="true"> in the settings.xml file (which you can find in Documents folder/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2). Wink

I've tried it yesterday and it worked great (by completely reducing frametime choppiness), and the stutters to a certain degree. But the game STILL stutters every now and then, just not as much as before which in the current state of this game, I consider a win/win situation Laughing

Read a number of pages of this thread and haven't seen any reference to a lack of beta testing this game.

Most every problem you all are having is found in beta tests.

That is the only reason i did not preorder because I knew (as like most games today) there were going to be huge problems due to lack of a large beta testing community.

Assumed check point was past.
Restart game to get out of safe mode.
Nope, back again at starting mission.

Well, the more one reads the more it seems that this version has as many (or maybe more?) issues than the derpsole version had Razz

Don't have noticeable problems with this game. No crashes, no stuttering, no hitches. Sure fps is not too high, but I wasn't expecting that anyway, and at least it's smooth. I had a similar experience with Arkham Knight. All in all, I guess I'm very lucky with with my little gaming laptop Smile

I only have one strange issue, but I don't know if this is the game, or a specific setting or my pc. Character animations become very choppy/low quality after a little distance from the camera. I don't know how to explain better, but it's like half the frames or something. Anyone else has something similar?

GTX 980M 8GB. It was high-end back in 2014, but still holding up strong with modern titles (but I also never play on a higher resolution than HD)

Which console?

Xbox One X

But the joke is that a 2080ti can barely keep up with 4K60 at those settings, while an Xbox One X, which has a much, much, much slower CPU and GPU, holds 4K30 pretty consistently, even in the New Orleans city (whatever the name was). The DF cwowns are gushing about the options, but the game is just not optimized well for PC. They should have focused on optimizing, rather than adding diminishing results "salability". The game look fantastic on Xbox One X, and they should have put that (or a little above it) as the highest settings, and optimize those to run as fast as possible.

the xbox x keeps 30 frames because it uses more than half the settings on low and lower than possible from the pc version, some mediums and 4 or 5 settings from high. The game holds 60 pretty constant with a puny radeon 580 from years ago at 1080p and these settings. Lookings at this, the pc version has a load who knows how many times higher than consoles. They did an exceptional job. The game isnt unoptimised, it offers much much more than consoles. It requires extra performance, of course.

You're asking for them to gimp the game on consoles levels as max, but we can already make it as xbox x - most on low and a few on medium. It should run about the same, theres no magic on the xbox version. We have a bunch of extra settings for every hardware

The settings above are the closest to XOX that DF found, and are the ones they use to run at 4K at the end of the video, where a 2080ti is struggling. The game may offer more settings and higher fidelity, but it's just diminishing results in terms of visual quality, at a great expense of performance. But that's not the point. The point is that even at console level settings, the game still struggles on much superior hardware.
