I like the game so far. Haven't beat it yet but the story is shaping up to be better than the new trilogy.

Customization is a let down though because what's the point of just reskinned outfits and ponchos? Having those as 'rewards' for secrets / puzzles is lame.

Though I'm having fun with the puzzles.

Not so much the backtracking. Never been a fan of areas being blocked off until you get an ability in 3d games. I'm fine with Metroidvania mechanics in 2d games though as it's less tedious to backtrack in those.

Combat is fine though even at Jedi Knight difficulty that damn frog kept 2 shotting me, but that was a good enough way to learn the fight mechanics, with what works and what doesn't. And it only took me maybe 20-30 deaths lol.

I'd have preferred a more Sekiro fight system for sabre vs sabre where it's just guard draining until someone messes up.

They should have Respawn make another Jedi Academy type game, but set it in The Old Republic. I'm not really for having the setting be anything post prequel trilogy because anything that happens there won't really matter much in the end because we all know how the movies went.

So the hero in these settings will probably end up dying, going on a mission to the ends of the galaxy to never return, getting his force powers stripped away and will now have to become an armchair resistance leader or something like that. Wonder what they'll use to explain Cal's absence in the OT.

I just went with a month of Origin Premier for $20 unless you don't have the time to finish it in a month. Definitely not a game I would replay even though i enjoy it. All the backtracking is annoying me.

Scalability.ini through Unreal Engine 4 tweaks maybe?

[PostProcessQuality@0]
r.MotionBlurQuality=0

[PostProcessQuality@1]
r.MotionBlurQuality=0

[PostProcessQuality@2]
r.MotionBlurQuality=0

[PostProcessQuality@3]
r.MotionBlurQuality=0

[PostProcessQuality@4]
r.MotionBlurQuality=0

Low, Medium, High, V.High and Cinematic/Epic respectively.
(Doubt post-process to Low fully disables it and it takes out other effects too so a override is used instead for the specific setting.)

Or this.
https://framedsc.github.io/GeneralGuides/universal_ue4_consoleunlocker.htm

And then try the command directly through the in-game console prompt and others for what might want to go off to avoid blurring, eye strain, funny notions of developers thinking cinematic means broken camera and all that. Very Happy
(At least chromatic aberration has a toggle, they are learning a bit. Razz )

Game gets better the more I play it, it's becoming one of the top 3 SW games I've played. The levels are like labyrinths at times, but I like the puzzles. I regularly get my ass kicked on Jedi Master when I am overwhelmed or some big enemy comes out. I don't understand the purpose of all the loot though, has absolutely no purpose.

Out of curiosity, what are your top two SW games? If this is the 3rd

What? I wasn't talking about that.

It just looks totally bland, uninspired and even ugly. Laughing

Well yeah, they're sticking to a couple of known SW planets, and those are your generic SW planets but even those planets have some sections that look pretty good.

Other planets are pretty cool looking.

But I still hate Kashyyk's design because Cal is pretty lucky to have those convenient slides and jump pads all being there when he's being chased by some baddies.

Oh and the second planet, the one with the Jedi temple, is pretty bad as well.

They should allow teleporting between cirlces. The backtracking - even with shortcuts is really bothering me.

I'd give the game 7.5 at this point. It looks nice, the combat is quite enjoyable on the highest diffculty.

Backtracking == increased game time == looks good in ads and descriptions until it lands in the customers laps and they realize ~30% of the game is superficially extended by forcing backtracking in the design.

If people are finishing the entire game - including all the backtracking - in 8 hours, yeah I can see why they were keen on padding out the runtime.

Basically there are two main interconnected issues that are major flaws for me - pointless backtracking and pointless loot that makes backtracking even more pointless.

So how long is it if you just straight up rush through the story (without cutscene skipping etc.)?

Just 8 hours?

Estimated was around 10 I think so 8 sounds like a fairly accurate number once you round it off a bit.

Meaning the game length when played by someone who has at least some idea of what they are doing and know how to operate a input device at least reasonably well and doesn't immediately get stuck if there's no detailed explanation nearby for what to do and where to go next.

Generally most of the target audience and overall player base though seeing some reviewers, streamers that aren't immediately just goofing about and reading some user impressions well I could be wrong.
Though I do know at least some players had to look up online for what to do in some situations, that's not really good confidence for how much more games will be so called dumbed down further in the future.

Well there's that and with connectivity in general at least being OK and somewhat good or at least better a quick check online is also quite easy to do so could just be that instead of at least trying one or two things first.
(Sounds better that way at least. Very Happy )

EDIT: Well there's the developer estimated as well but that's usually very generous, maybe some non-physically intensive child labor could be allowed in certain situations and they could actually get competent play testers. Razz
(However the idea here is to have a focus group of randoms though some doing well and others well less so and sometimes resulting in good ideas going bye bye for simplification and ease of access ha ha.)

Game is not worth 60 Euro + the high praise that it gets... IMO[!] <- do I still need to put this in?!
Got it on Origin Premier.

We've had such an abominable hunger for a good Star Wars game for so long that, now, anything that doesn't suck or is kinda decent will pass as GOOD, and anything that is good will pass as really GREAT.

The general feeling is that the game is... playing it safe.

Yea. it's a pretty, cool game, but t's clearly NOT what I've been waiting / expecting in this day and age from a Star Wars game. When you've had on market titles like The Witcher 3, Alien Isolation or Mass Effect Andromeda (tech wise!), one would only wonder: why the restraint?! Everybody knows that we, SW nerds, ALL want a damn immersive world in the Star Wars universe that would allow us to visit it as often as we could (open world). Or, if not, at least make a difference there (RPG). It could take any form: similar to KoTOR, Mass Effect, Jedi Knight games, even Skyrim or even isometric, like Tyranny. But... of course... they take the linear, safe, cinematic way...

I guess, despite the industry being bigger than ever, there aren't many teams really capable of crafting something that lines up with our gamers expectations. Especially when numbers and streamlining count more than quality and soul. A policy that's dictated by minds that value money more than artistic value or gamers. Guess it's enough to look at the latest Star Wars movies and understand today's situation...

A lot depends on the difficulty you choose. You can't really rush through the game on anything beyond normal - you have to be careful, or you'll get stomped quite easily.

I like the game a lot. It's the best SW title since Kotor 2, and (for me) best Star Wars action adventure game, period. Combat feels great and strikes a perfect balance between the badass feeling of being a Jedi and a difficulty that forces you to think and play to your strenghts instead of clicking through enemies mindlessly. You're not overpowered and you don't have too many tools, but you have enough to warrant fun combos and interactions. Also, and that's really important, it's a game where a lightsaber feels like a fucking lightsaber. Finally!

Exploration feels really good, though I agree the backtracking is a bit tiring at times. Most often than not I have a blast going through the plantes, though. The level design is very cool and I love the "no hand holding" approach. it's refreshing to see a game that doesn't use quest pointers and forces me to think and plan my route using an actual map.

The story is solid enough, but I think it goes a bit too slow in the beginng. Likeable characters and good, Star Wars atmosphere, but music could be better. As for the length - I've played the game for 20 hours and I still have a lot left to explore - almost whole Dathomir, rest of the planets are between 30-80% completion. I think I'll be around 30 hours by the end of it. However, I play on the highest difficulty and I did die several times in a couple of places. I also read / listen through most stuff I find.

All in all, it's very good entertainment, especially since you can get it for the price of one month of Origin Access Premier.

The technical part is full of obvious shortcomings that were definitely ignored during development. The combat system is aking to playing an online game with a poor netcode. The hitboxes are terrible at times and the lightsaber interacts with various things without actual contact. Most physical interactions are baked, resulting in out of sync animations.

The devs cut a lot of corners. The lightsaber doesn't leave marks on the walls unless you swing it and even then it won't happen on all the walls. The transition between cutscenes is skipping frames. I could go on but I think I made my point.

It's a pretty game to look at, but not one that would justify a 60 euro price tag for these problems alone. These technical issues carry on to affect every facet of the gameplay. This is how you end up with awkward moments when you push enemies off a ledge just to see them teleporting back or deflecting blaster shots that are nowhere near your lightsaber.
