this looks more like a sequel to aoe2 rather than aoe3
AOE3 is an abomination that should be forgotten.
AOE2 is basically the only reason people still talk about the series. It has a great community and the pro scene has been growing for the last few years. The fan mods for AOE2 were the reason the AOE2HD edition was released with new campaigns. Later this success led to plans for the Definitive Editions and now IV.
Even if they had plans for 5 games in different eras, now those are scrapped, since they are working with AOE2 pro players as gameplay consultants on the 4th game.
There are four ages, but not all civilizations will advance through all four. It sounds like Mongols are stronger in the beginning (possibly able to build cavalry early?) but can only advance to the third age.
Melee units will switch to torches when they're attacking buildings (so you won't have a knight hitting a building with his sword).
There are special and hero units of some sort. Mongols have Khan units for instance, and one of their special abilities is sending an eagle to scout an area.
The developer didn't confirm but did suggest that the Mongols move around the map like nomads rather than building permanent settlements.
There are the four traditional resources, but not all civilizations collect them the same way or use them the same way.
Height plays a large role, with ranged units having a bonus when firing from walls or high elevation.
Seems like we will have AoK style campaigns, focused on historical figures, with Joan of Arc as an example.
The interviewer asked if Asia and Africa are included but the developer didn't confirm either way.
The card systems of AoE3 and AoEO don't seen to be included in multiplayer.

really? I really like how it look.
Sure they could give us an RTX game with outstanding graphics - but if its anything like the old AoE it must be able to handle huge battles..not so sure that would work well.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
That poly-count is almost Empire Earth-esque. And...holy cow, those arrows.

Sure. But to be fair, the Total War games have been giving us way bigger battles than anything ever seen in any AoE game, and they look lightyears ahead of this. Hell, even Empire TW looked better than this, and it's over a decade old at this point.
*Wololoing stops* *relic cart drops* *record scratch* You're probably wondering how I got into this situation
God damnit. I was not expecting much, but from the underwhelming visuals to the silly animations and overall lack of attention to detail, it genuinely gives the impression of being some sort of mobile Age of Empires or equivalent. The gameplay itself might still be decent, but that certainly doesn't bode well.
The graphics might not look good, but to me - it looks like how i thought Civ VI did when first released...but then civ grew on me and now i like it alot. Perhaps it will be the same with this one?
