We already have sophisticated sex dolls, in the future you could probably romance a toaster.

Y'all talkin about gender and shit, but what if my GTX 1050 identifies as a bi-SLI 2080 Ti ? Will I be able to run this at max settings?

They actually never said that, though. The quote didn't go nearly as far, as some media outlets ran with it, making people go batshit crazy over this stuff. The actual guy (Max Pears, level designer at CDPR) said:
Quote: | One of the things we’ve done to make sure the game addresses things a certain way is a lot of the time NPCs are just going to refer to you as ‘V’, because you won’t be able to choose your name |
Then he went on to describe how the character creation will work - you just choose your voice and body type seprately, with genitalia being defined by the latter. It's as simple as that.
There was no mention of there being "no gender" in the game. And I bolded the "a lot of the time" here, because that's the crucial little tidbit. What it boils down to, is that it'll probably work exactly the same as in 99% games where you have a semi-predetermined protagonist, but can choose your gender. In Mass Effect, "a lot of the time", NPCs adressed your character as Shephard. In Quasi Mass Effect they called you the Pathfinder. In Dragon Age you were, "a lot of the time", adressed as the Inquisitor, Hawke or Warden. It simple, it makes writing and recording lines easier and cheaper.

google cyberpunk no gender player you'll find 100 pages explaining it to you. Tons of interviews with the team that says you do NOT choose gender.
And sure, the "V" thing makes it easier too for them to pull this through.
Choosing gender by your sexual organ would obviously anger the LGBT people that they've decided to bend the knee for so that's a no go for sure. As everyone knows there are many hundreds, if not thousands, of genders
the only cool part about it is that it supposedly ties into the whole dystopian "society and its people has gone to shit" theme (kind of like Idiocracy i guess). So lore wise it works, annoying as it is (its no super biggie though). |
There were literally two interviews about that issue. TWO. One with Marthe Jonkers, and the other with Mike Pears. Here's what they boil down to:
- there won't be a box which lets you choose "male" or "female"
- instead, you will choose a body type and pair it with a voice
- body type defines genitalia
- your chararacter will be adressed with a V "a lot of the time" (not exclusively)
That's about it. There isn't a single quote to suggest the whole world will be gender fluid and only some NPCs will be exceptions. I don't know what you read, but it wasn't s CDPR quote
And now we know that romance paths are written for male / female characters, so the game clearly makes a distinction between males and females. It has to know which of the paths will be open to you, so it has to be specified somehow. I'm willing to bet it'll have to do with whichever body type you chose (since romance paths will be tied to sex scenes, and those have to be constructed with a certain body type in mind).
So yeah, you will NOT choose gender in the game, at least not in a box at character creation. You'll just decide wheter you want to have a dong and that'll tell the game if it should treat you as male or female The whole "SJW pandering" boils down to being able to pair that body with a certain voice. Rest of the game didn't change one bit. That's how I interpret actual quotes from the developers, filtered from opinion pieces written by SJW and anti-SJW fanatics. But sure, you're welcome to your own interpretation.

Can I sexually identify my character as an attack helicopter? If not I'll sue them.

Sure just like every other crazy person: in your head. Limitless possibilities, right there!

My main concern is the voice acting. A voiced first person protagonist needs to have a very experienced VA especially since the player is unable to see the facial expressions and nuances.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

They're not adding mxt to the singleplayer game. The MP is just an added, may or may not even happen, addition to the game.
And for now, they simply said they're looking into it, they neither said yes or no, yet, to anything, except no mxt in the SP core game.
Imho, if they add skins that you can either grind for or buy (simply buy, no randomness or whatever), then I'm fine with that, if it pays the servers.
Just no:
Random loot box type "surprise mechanics"
power/shortcuts
and everything can be earned by playing the game as well.

If they are trying to create a MP mode like GTA Online to monetize, it's all fine by me. As long as it doesn't touch my glorious SP experience that is.

But look at the results of that. Rockstar/Take-Two cancelled all single player DLC to focus on monetising online. Given that the best part of The Witcher 3 was the DLC, I'd prefer not to see CDPR follow that route.

Yeah. For me the problem isn't the fact that there will be optional paid skins or shit like that for multi. It's the trend. IMO it's simply a downslope. I'd hate to see CDPR fall like all those game factories.

Microtransactions were never really mentioned in that talk, though. The guy has basically said they're looking at options to monetize the MP component, which seems reasonable given it'll come after the base game, probably required / requires some investment and will require further cash to operate (to keep servers running, for one).
The game is being sold as an SP experience and that's what we buy right now. Whatever comes after, and what - and in which form - we'll have to pay for it, remains to be seen. But yeah, the I can definitely understand the concern that they might scrap expansions / further single-player content in their future games in favour of MP, if it does well in Cyberpunk.
