VR HW sales this year saw a 31% bump compared to last year's ($2.1B vs $1.6B). Most of it is thanks to the Quest.
It will be very interesting to see sales next year, because with the just-released Boneworks, HL:A, and whatever else will come out, VR is just starting to attract serious interest by the mainstream.

New update for the Quest has seemingly improved the Link to be very useable.
I'm kinda hoping that somewhere, somewhen, wireless VR will be a standard thing, especially with the processing grunt of today's rigs - AMD's sudden dominance in the mid-high end consumer CPU market will make such a thing far easier to acheive.
ALVR isn't quite ready yet... I think we need a couple more years to get to the point when Ryzen 3950 equivalent CPU's are more like a standard option, and GPU video encoding efficiency improves a little more. (I wonder if failed tech like Stadia could be modified to work for such a thing?)
I believe the future for VR is very good indeed. We just need TRUE VR 3.0 headsets including proper eyetracked FOV and further improved optics... and lighter headsets. New display tech like Micro OLED or similar should help, and I imagine the electronics needed to drive these things can be further reduced.
Now we just need more proper games to be made, no compromises, no streamlining... Valve is leading the way, and if it succeeds.. I suspect other publishers will have no real choice but to follow.

Rift arrived yesterday. Only VR thing I could quickly download was that Rise of the Tomb Raider mansion thing. Tried 10 seconds with free movement, spent the rest of the day in bed after puking.

Yea 'The Lab', Oculus' 'First Steps' and 'First Contact', 'Superhot' ain't bad cause you're pretty much standing in place all the time unless you move IRL
same goes for most games that have the teleport to move option
The Rick and Morty game should do fine, 'Keep talking and nobody explodes' obviously,
Yeah all of the above. I got my rift. After meeting the T-Rex and the alien in the demo, I immediately strapped into a rollercoaster - because I was 41 and a twat.
Took a number of days to regroup.
Now, I could sit in it without any problem at all. I kinda miss the sensation of movement sometimes...
Your brain won't take long to adjust - just immediately take it off it you feel bad motionsickness - you cannot power through it otherwise your brain will wire itself into thinking VR = barf.

I tried that Asgard one and ended up punching my console monitor lol, but yeah I'll go strengthen myself before continuing.
And yeah I was like, "I've been gaming since the 80s, I can handle this." when that warning about free movement came up and so tried to walk down the stairs. When I got to the landing it was
What headets do you guys have, I haven't really followed VR since the first hypewave passed.
Are there still ones that are more advanced than others and can you play all games with a single set or are there some exclusives? I see the higher end sets are still expensive af, I bet with the cheaper ones there are some downsides or missing features.
I'd like to get into VR now that I have a powerful enough system but only if the price is good and I don't have to live with an inferior experience. Maybe not quite there yet?
I'm still on my Oculus Rift. I bought a 3rd sensor, so that the tracking in the room works better but I guess I will switch to a sensorless setup some time during the next year. Regarding picture quality, I have not tested any other headset, but I guess there is a lot of room for improvement, but the rift is perfectly fine to get absolutely immersed Oh and the vr games I tried from the russian forum all worked fine. Am not aware of any "platform" exclusives.
Off-topic: It reminds me that they did this and dives inside monitors in The Matrix all the time to symbolize "worlds within worlds/a 2D surface"

I have same setup and will be keeping it for awhile. I also added a pulley system so no wires on floor.
What do you mean: vr games I tried from the russian forum all worked fine

Still on the OG Vive here. Bought the Index but I'm gonna RMA it for the Quest. The incremental upgrade wasn't worth the $999 for me and I wanna play Quake 2 in my backyard this Spring. And it should be super versatile for taking to other people's houses to show off Alyx, the future is almost here!!!!!!!!!!!
