I'm an illiterate concerning this game? endeavour? kickstarter scam? but I think I have a legit question: Are those new friggin' expensive planets / content / dlc worth exploring? Do they have missions? Sidequests? Places worth finding?

It's nothing more than a tech demo at the moment. Honestly I haven't "played" the last 2 updates but according to their changelogs little new was added. The most interesting stuff to do is checking out the ships and exploring planets. Even if you have only a basic ship you can still sneak into some big ship of someone else or ask them if you can go in.
There are about 70 flyable ships right now. Some a small, some a very big. The smallest are for 1 person and like a Smart car while the biggest ones are almost like cities. The idea is that there will be ships with specific roles like fighters, miners, cruiser, bombers, "stealth data thieves", etc. Some small vehicles to drive as well.
4-5 big planets with the size almost of a real life planet and around 10 smaller moons (but still big enough) that you can thoroughly fly or drive on. But most a barren lands with some small bases here and there only a major city that can be only landed on landing pads and only explored from the inside. They feel overwhelmingly big when you first walk around them but once you explore them you will used to them. Altho lots of areas in them are under development and there are no shortcuts so far which IMO will become really tedious and frustrating when you have to move to different points.
Also refueling stations in space.
There is some shooting but it's basic at the moment. Mining is like a mini-game and kinda interesting.
Missions are extremely broken and most don't work properly. Even simple task as going to a planet, taking a box from there and bringing it to another planet can be bugged.
There are so many promises about this game. Some are almost impossible - like making planets orbit their sun and having changing weather seasons and time zones.The main "brain" behind the game, Chris Robets, basically wants to make a real life game but of course that's can't happen and should finally realize what to cut off if he wants this ever finished.
TL;DR : Only fun right now are ships and some areas to explore. Game may never be fully finished.

Ya this game serves as the pinnacle of how retarded gamers are with money. My current scam developer rankings and Roberts is far far ahead.
1. Chris Roberts - 120+ million with only jpgs and promises that he obviously couldnt keep.
2. Peter Molyneux - a lot could be said, but i cant get over thinking about thousands of derps tapping their mobile phones for whatever suprise molyneux had cooked up in Curiosity.
3. Dean Rocket Hall - never succesfully finished a game, made millions and derps seem to respect his opinions *shrug..
4. Julian Gollop - a new contender to the list here and he is not alone. Kickstart game, fuck over everyone for exclusivity deal, then failing to deliver on many promisses.

It'll be interesting how these more-toxic-than-a-HC-Michael-Jackson-Fanclub-when-it-comes-to-criticism-about-THEIR-HolyGrail-fanboys will put all the blame on the non-believers and haters, when this fails.
Trust me, they will have to vent all their anger towards someone, very few will actually admit it was a failure.
'Ooooh, we had sooo much fun with the development, was absolutely worth it!' 'I spent like 3500hrs flying 2 ships around 2 planets in alpha-status doing the same stuff over and over again! Most fun I ever had in a game!'
THIS will never amount to any of the out of proportion expectations Roberts and his Pirates evoked in their gullibe fanboys. Just have a look how AAA-titles left and right fail to balance and bugfix stuff after years. This will be so disappointing in a lot of ways, I can already see forums overflowing with complaints about the crashes and bugs, grievers and halfworking features in the game.
But hey, CIG developed a lot of tech-assets with free money, so after he fires all of his staff, he can surely make a fortune out of licensing the working bits to other studios.
The irony is then, that ppl who invested loads of cash into this game, buying the new ones using bits of his tech are paying double...^^
But well..tell that to the fanboys...'YOU'RE A HATER!!!!111 Diswillbesogreat...blabla...'
Biggest scam I can remember in gaming history. 100 bucks for a ship you potentially can unlock in-game...which was one of the reasons I played privateer or freelancer...to work my way up the ladder...step-by-step.

All these years later and people are forking out more than ever. The game has become a ship collecting simulator for many of the long term backers who have invested so much that bailing is not an option. CIG made just under 10mil in November alone and 2019 is their best year to date.
Like with most bad things in gaming it's the gamers who are to blame. Why on earth would Chris change his ways when the current model brings in more money than he could have ever imagined.

To play Devil's Advocate, I have been immensely impressed with what they've shown off over the last two years. The game has gone from being a huge fucking farce.. to something that genuinely has some teeth as it all starts finally coming together. Game systems, performance, and scope are actually improving at a much faster pace.
... I still think the project is ridiculous and protracted development is infuriating, especially as they STILL keep unveiling new features, but at least you can see it taking shape now.

It has simple missions for a long time such as delivery, kill some pirate ships, retrieve datapads from a floating destroyed base or hack a satellite. But even these basic ones had a lot of bugs like boxes clipping in the ground or pirate ships not appearing. Haven't played the latest version so I don't know if they fixed them and added new ones. In changelogs I see they adding new mission givers so I guess they give other missions who re most likely bugged too...

I've been putting in a few hours since patch 3.8 was released. I backed this back in 2012, jesus that's a long time ago!
I know it's Alpha i get that. But as it is, it gives no incentive to play or invest any time in advancing right now. Every past patch has seen your progress wiped at every new patch release.
Basically any progress made between these patches is lost. I would really like to try out the mining mechanic as it looks interesting and you can make decent money. But you will need a dedicated mining ship, either the Prospector or the newly released Mole to be able to do this. There is hand held mining but that's another topic.
You have 3 choices to try these ships out.
1) buy them with real money and keep them forever.
Mole £264.00
Prospector £125.00
2) Rent the ship of choice for a limited time 1 day / 3 days / weeks ect.
this costs in game money as is achievable by earning money doing various missions.
3) buy the ship in game with in game money.
You will be lucky to make enough money between patches to do this, and then the next patch will wipe the ship from your account anyway.
They say wipes will happen less now and only if they really need to.
So many things seem broken as I play. after what, 7 years and it still feels like a tech demo. It has great potential but it's taking so long.
Don't quote me on the above, It may not be 100% correct , as i have not gotten too deep into it or followed the news. Just what I've picked up over the past week playing.

I don't think people should really be paying stupid money for 'potential'... I mean, a grain of sand has potential.
What the world needs is some form of Trading Standards - for gaming... I don't understand why virtually every product made is subject to some sort of regional laws for products being 'fit for purpose', but gaming seems to be a complete free for all.
