Huh, took me a while to realize that the game runs via vulkan, that was why it wasn't picking up my old-ish RTSS set FPS counter
Unfortunately I'm having some crashes... any way to force it to dx12? Strange that I'm not finding much info about it online
This game has built-in fps counter. In the "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\The Surge 2\settings.ini" make sure you have:
display_fps = true
Thanks for that tip, saves me the trouble to get it running via RTSS. TAA looks horrible on the outside of the first area, enemies seem to be melting when moving, wtf

I think TAA's still kinda broken last I heard though they've had one large patch since then but it basically incorporated the DLC armor and weapons (Robo-fur suits or what it looked like and some stabby stuff.) with the patch note being a whole new kind of epic.
Fixed a crash. (Something to that degree at least, one whole fix.)
Wow. GB's of updates and it did ALL THAT.
(Plus some DLC things even for those who don't have said DLC just because. )
EDIT: Fuck happened during the beta anyway someone optimize the game by setting GI = Off or something and then during compile shit all broke?
"Shit all broke." Yeah hitting high level medical institute language here of problem reports.
A psychiatric hospital was once on trial over its practices and a doctor was asked what the term "FITH" stood for. After trying to dodge the question by saying it was highly technical, he was finally forced to answer: "Fucked In The Head".
I mean it kinda fits with the whole AI nanonclouds breaking all the shit (Thanks Wheelie Warrior of the first game for unleashing *that* although the corporation kinda did most of it.) but the game itself doesn't need to be quite as broken as the world it's presenting.
Getting there though, wonder what one whole fix the next patch is going to provide.
(It can be fixed of course and they seem to be supportive of the game but some work required still and maybe less DLC focus first and get the wonky and broken stuff sorted, maybe.)
Yeah, it will be disappointing if they go down the DLC path instead of trying to polish the game a bit more. Because so far it's better than the first, certainly better than boob souls too.
Tried reshade SMAA hoping that it would be better than the ingame version... uhhhh no. Fair enough, vulkan support for reshade seems to be still in it's first steps (was implemented in 4.4, current version is 4.4.2).

Yeah Vulkan ReShade is a bit hit & miss depending on the game, 4.4.3 or what the next version is will be revamping the way this works and should hopefully improve compatibility.
(The pending commit for this got closed and Crosire implement a different solution going by Github activity since 4.4.0 and the latest 4.4.2 came out.)
SMAA itself is hitting limitations now with current shader heavy games too although not as bad as MSAA was doing but it's either temporal and getting blur and possible ghosting for in-motion aliasing reduction and stability but unless a custom more extensive and thus more demanding variant is implemented it has it's shortcomings or it's going to need super sampling but that's just brute forcing a problem and doesn't 100% resolve aliasing either so at least some post-process AA can still be very beneficial but it's still also very demanding to just upscale the render resolution in this way and then downsample it.
This one was a great surprise. Leaps and bounds better than the original, and a much better game than boob souls. Maybe a bit too easy (level x ronin gear and katana pulverizes the last boss, and the latter part of the game) but combat is still very enjoyable.
Almost as good as the combat were the DS1-like maps, so much better than the original and boob souls... story and characters are meh, same with the setting and "lore".
Still, will buy this bad boy on the xmas sale. Deck13 more than deserves it

Deck13’s acclaimed Action-RPG The Surge 2 today announces the release date for the upcoming Kraken expansion, which comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on January 16.
Check out the newly unveiled teaser trailer here, for a glimpse of the retro-themed suburban environments you’ll soon be exploring.
The Kraken expansion adds hours of narrative-driven content with a brand-new storyline and location, as well as a wealth of new weapons, implants and armor to discover and craft. On the outskirts of Jericho City, enter the VBS Krakow, a massive decommissioned aircraft carrier retrofitted as a retreat for the rich and famous. Battle robot pirates, deranged security systems, and an imposing new boss, each with their own unique combat mechanics. Fight hard and uncover the truth behind the desolate military vessel!
Yup!! I've been waiting for the story expansion before I play too I kinda wish I'd waited for "Remnant" and "Code Vein", since both were *excellent*, but egh... at least there's something to look forward to with those
I'd still play the first one as well, it lacks variety and the level design isn't as full-fledged/complex as the sequel, but the dark-ish atmosphere with its confined areas and corridors is pretty unique. The Surgemen's lore is practically worthless so you can just rush through it and enjoy the industrial robot bashing sessions without too many afterthoughts.
I really like this game, I do, but it's the cheapest pile of shite I've ever played Multiple enemies ganking you simultaneously, whilst some cheap cunt continually plants turrets that take potshots at you from a distance, all whilst you're wrestling with the frustrating "will it? won't it?" mechanics for cutting limbs off enemies .. battling the "armour" levels, desperately trying to damage a limb enough to cut it off before the enemy dies.
i like the overall game but omg do i suck at the directional blocking. first boss was almost impossible for me, second dude with the nice-guy-turning-sinister arc made me drop the game... too bad

Oh I *like* the directional parrying (especially with the parry indicator implant ) I just don't like that some limbs (read: the ones you want. Every time.) are armoured and take a ton of damage before they break.. which consequently means the enemy often dies before the limb breaks and can be severed The rest of the game is a genuine blast to play, I'm loving the exploration and the overall feel -- even if the visuals are mighty lacklustre I did manage to break the claws on the first boss ("Little" Johnny, haha) and that dropped a set of poison claws that are fucking DEADLY! I've actually not used anything else since, just keep powering these bad boys up.
~edit~
Ooooh... got it! Target the armoured limb and use the Diode LasPistol drone \o/ It SHREDS THE FUCK out of enemy armour, plus does a enough body damage that I can almost always just immediately go into limb cutting \o/ Combine that with implants that prevent 1 or 2 batteries from decaying, and the full set bonus from VULTR armour ("limb cutting does not drain a battery charge") and I'm a limb-shredding monster that would make Freddy Krueger cringe My wife actually told me off, said my "gleeful" tone and constant "I'll take that arm, thank you!" and "that's my head now!" gave her shivers
they just pushed trailer for "premium edition" so it seems like ... but well with Surge 1 they also released Complete edition and released DLC after that anyway
There's a protester yelling "THE END IS NIGH!" in one of the evacuation camps, you can interact with him to join his protest.. and get a protest sign as a melee weapon xD
Aaaaaand done! After 33 hours and 33 minutes.. this was a LOT longer than I was expecting, but also was a LOT better too The first game bored me but this one gripped me, just like recent releases "Remnant: From Ashes" and "Code Vein" This was awesome to play and I really enjoyed it, though the "Kraken" expansion was a bit meh.. too short, too "standalone".
is this known to be poorly optimized? im running it through geforce now but runs like ass, even though it shows 50-60 fps, feels like under 30, really really sluggish; and looks like ass compared to the first one, i think something is wrong with the gamma or lightning.
