So, is RDR2 more fun than RDR1? From what I'm reading here it seems RDR2 is a real bore unless you like the spending a lot of time in classic western vistas without doing much. I never played RDR1.
RDR1 was awesome. This one is for people who like euro truck/death stranding borefest simulation. I already got a real life simulation, I'm playing it everyday, can I have some game please ? Good reminder this game is, everytime I think my real life job is boring I just think of this game and suddenly the job isn't that boring anymore. I just sit and look at the pretty graphics. No tessellation though
BTW Frant, I can lend you my rockstar account if you want. Assuming I'll still be the only one that can change the account password.
I may take you up on that later as long as your account is safe (no idea if they check IP origin etc. and have rules about that). For now I feel hesitant that it's something I'd enjoy. I tend to enjoy a game with a story that moves on at a certain minimum pace and when you describe it as a life simulation I lose interest even more.
I would classify it as your typical GTA formula with life sim stuff thrown in there. I generally get annoyed quickly with the larping elements in other games, here they are tolerable though. R* did a good job with the story, IMO. Even if you fuck off for a few hours to do side stuff you don't feel like you're disengaged when you return back to the story missions.
Unlike other open world games, such as Ubisoft crapolas, grinding in the world is completely optional. You can advance the story at your own pace, rather than have to collect X amount of pigeons to level up so that a door opens.
I love RDRs narrative and gameplay pacing. Sure its not the most fast paced thing, but its the price for the immense amount of immersion at this level.
Is someone enjoying online?
Only played a couple of hours, but it feels like a pointless grind.
Imo it's only worth it with friends or if you're good at making your own little stories up and enjoy it for what it is, underneath lies a grind Rockstar is very fond of in online, indeed.
Gotta make some cash, the poor things GTA5 is pretty much the same tbh, even though it offers a much larger range of activities, partly due to the modern setting, it's a constant grind if you want to access pretty much anything - unless you cheat like many do. It's a fantastic sandbox if you're into RP, hopefully OpenIV makes some progress on RDR2 support soon.

It is fun with a friend or friends but I can agree with you about the grind. I'm doing the trader/moonshiner role and am bored with the resource collecting and how long it takes.
I think I've seen more negative comments about Online part than positive. Everyone is comparing grinding to GTA5, but at least it has content. Does RDR2 have... horse armor? Or jet packs? Do horses handle differently? Are there any other modes besides point and shoot? Deathmatch or coop missions might be fun with friends, but what else is there?

The serious, simulation-ish SP experience doesn't really translate well in MP.. I was talking of sandboxes before : RDR2 is one with much less obvious, naturally "crazy fun" toys than GTA5 in it, the setting doesn't really help (you were bored those days, no skydiving or rocket launchers to pass the time ), but there could be ideas in order to make it more fun, adding more meat and interactivity to the existing features and fleshing them out for multiplayer..
However, that would require some extra creativity from Rockstar beyond adding any piece of growingly crazy military/scifi tech into the game and slapping a crazy price tag on it though - and I'm not confident they can or want to do that
I don't think they expect much of RDR2's online and its potential growth. I can't fully blame them for it, the SP is nothing like GTA5's, it's much better to me and I'm happy with that trade-off.
Undead Nightmare (think that was the name of that RDR DLC) would be an obvious solution to solve this, bring back a fond memory for many, and make a quick buck for Rockstar, and I'm not even sure that will happen.

I think the core gamplay of RDR2 is poor. Horsebackriding is boring and this is the stuff you're doing most of the time (compare this to driving a car in GRA).Besides riding a horse it's a poor shooter and you can grind stuff. RDR2 SP is great cause of the production values, stunning landscapes and story driven gameplay. But at it's core the game is poor and that's the problem with the online mode, there isn't anything fun to do.
I played RDR2 on PS4, and I loved it. It is a very non-gamey game. Very immersive, also very boring. Good for escapism, bad if you only look at mechanics.
I put a ton of hours in it. Loved the characters. Loved the setting. It was great escapism. Not the best game, mind you. Ending for me was touching.
Using the tilt shift effect, we've turned the bustling landscapes & towns of Red Dead Redemption 2, into miniature versions of themselves! Showing off Saint Denis, Blackwater, Valentine & other areas of the map using the tilt shift effect.

Anybody have trouble with a ERR_GFX_STATE? I've tested in on two pcs and it starts happening around the end of chapter 2 and beginning of chapter 3? It's very random and it seems to be a known problem, but I haven't seen a reliable fix for it.
An old, infamous GTA San Andreas mod called Hot Coffee has been remade in Red Dead Redemption 2, and it’s prompted Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive to allegedly issue a takedown request to the modders who added it to the cowboy game.
