Me and my 2 buds often got weird looks for discussing games. Not that we cared Very Happy

Yeaah that was my experience as well. In "lagere school" it was not too bad - we swapped Gameboy games and so on - but the moment I hit highschool, even a lot of the guys felt games were for little kids despite many of the games I played having mature content (Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Full Throttle, Command & Conquer). It wasn't until the late 90's that suddenly PC gaming became "OK" to like for teenagers. And girls ... yeah you better not mention you're into games.

That was my experience as well.. people thought I was weird for using computers that much, and playing games on it ? Even more bizarre. Only a handful of my friends had any interest in gaming altogether and that was mainly just racing, sports games, the perception only drastically improved after the PS2 was introduced - and things eventually degenerated into modern derpola mainstream gaming.
I kind of miss those times during which (PC) gaming was still fairly confidential, a secret club of sorts Very Happy I've seen that this kind of experience varies a lot from country to country, but France has always had this kind of "holding your nose" attitude towards gaming. It's tolerated now that pretty much every household owns some form of gaming device, but it's still not something you'll usually speak about, contrary to other countries in which it's definitely seen in a more positive way, such as Sweden - damn progressives !1!

It's funny because in the 90's you had MicroKids on France 3 - I watched it every Sunday and still have tons of episodes on VHS.

There is a French site that hosts the episodes. Quite a few of them I provided them with:

https://www.abandonware-videos.org/affiche_vid.php?vid=6

Reminds me that I still have superior quality versions of some they have uploaded by someone else.

My wife is not into gaming, although she enjoyed watching me masturbate.. just kidding. She enjoyed watching me playing The Last of US and Heavy Rain.
I've tried loads of times to get her into gaming but she will last maybe 10 minutes max.
VR gaming got her into playing a little bit but she will get motion sickness.

Waiting for my kids to get older, they can play a bit of nintendo/sega now but one day hopefully we can play some LAN games. Smile

Last of US is a better "game" to watch than play I discovered. I originally watched it on Youtube, then bought it, thought it was way overrated as a game experience and never touched it again. With PC controls it could have been tolerable but on console? Fuck no.

But if someone isn't into games it's hard to change their minds. Gaming is about liking a challenge, about wanting to conquer something. Biologically, men are more sensitive to these wants & needs which is why gaming will always be mostly men - and trust me, as a teenager I really really wanted that not to be true.

I think VR might finally pull my gf in Very Happy She's really not into computers, in general. But lately, lots of historical and art documentaries feature VR technologies and elements to bring history back to life, and this is pretty much her wet dream Smile
So gaming might still be a step too far for her, at least via VR she could get involved a bit more.
And with good motion controls, it's only a matter of putting a virtual lightsaber in her hands, is how I figure Very Happy

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

It's just a hobby, people have different tastes.
And don't make it too much about gender because that's a bunch of crap.

I think it's more about our significant others being pretty much, our best friends we want (at least attempt) to share our hobbies with Smile

That gender thing was aimed at red, because his typical backwards ideas about women were shining through again.

I know you had a different experience than me with women and gaming but sorry, you're wrong - you were lucky, that's it but your experience isn't what it is globally.

Like I said, I wish it wasn't so but it is. Plenty of polls and studies and practically every personal experience confirmed this over and over. No it's not black and white but it's dark grey and very light grey at least.

Here's a nice graph of what so called female gamers like to play:

Yeaaah, those are some hardcore gamers

And what was a light-hearted, wholesome topic degenerates in yet another "females are so different from us guys" bullshit.
Bring it elsewhere, please. Smile
