So this episode opened up the plot and I like it. It's like a mix of new and old enveloped in a mystery style setting. Smile

First episode free. Laughing So more people know how bad it is and don't bother with an All Access subscription. Laughing

Nope, why would he? The trend is to judge by trailers and streamers *cough* sorry, influencers

I don't see why waste time on something that looks continuously retarded pew pew pew? I prefer to watch something else. These shows are constantly in competition for our time. Why give this one the benefit of the doubt and not others? Or maybe give them all? Rolling Eyes I don't have time for that.

It takes much less time than you think, and I do it while watching Ford v Ferrari making of.

I love how everyone gets so defensive over things that they like. Laughing

There's a minimal amount of pew pew. Ye olde ST had a shitload of pew pew, so I don't understand the problem if this had more pew pew.

.. and by "Ye Olde" you mean, classic 60s Star Trek? Because TNG had entire episodes go by where nobody so much as lifted a phaser, let alone ship battles. Same with Voyager and Enterprise. DS9 had plenty of pew pew in the later seasons because that was the theme; the Federation at war with the Dominion.

I'm not against pew pew just because it's pew pew, I'm against it because by the trailers and by what I've heard from people I trust, it looks like nothing buy pew pew. That's the problem.

It didn't seem like that was the cause. It looked more like manipulation.

Indeed. I'm starting to like it.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I agree I don't think the "insult" was the cause. Which by the way barely goes as an insult, lol.

Because they are not on TV anymore so they just don't give a fuck. The writers probably feel it makes them edgy and adult now.

Finding it okay so far. Though not liking non-Picard scenes much.

By the way, the show is streaming on Amazon Prime video as well. Smile

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things donโ€™t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things donโ€™t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Only for areas that do not have CBS All Access available. In the US you never get any of these shows on those other services since like Prime Video or Netflix just due to every company having a streaming service here now.

Lazy writing. I'm sure they'll counter with "But in TOS McCoy said 'damnit Jim!'" but that's bullshit. I loved how in Battlestar Galactica they used a custom swear word (frack) - they could at least have used a little originality here. If they want to copy BS, at least do it properly you lazy ****s.

Also they dont seem to at least try to make clothing even a little futuristic. Instead it all just looks how people dress nowadays.

Babylon 5: "Absofragginglutely"
Farscape: "Frell"

I always liked frell, and I use it often myself... "what the frell??" Laughing Though to be honest, I did like it when Riker swore in TNG:Insurrection, during the battle with the Son'a;

"We're through running from these bastards!"

But I guess it made more sense then, being a tense situation and all. Still, first time I ever heard true "swearing" in Star Trek.

~edit~

No, wait! Tell a lie... they said "dipshit" in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and O'Brien says "bollocks" in DS9, I forget which episode.

You also forgot Data's "Oh Shit" when Troi crashed the Enterprise saucer in Generations. Kirk and a few others also said Shit in the Kelvin timeline movies.

Indeed I had forgotten! So they've definitely had their share of mild "shit" here and there, with a "bastard" thrown in (Abrams' Trek also had Kirk call Spock a "pointy-eared bastard") ... but yeah, throwing out "fuck" in a Star Trek? Egh, I'd have preferred they went with something more universe-applicable. Seems odd for an enlightened evolved society to be saying "fuck" no? Laughing
