Call of Duty WWII: Midway DLC - 5/10

Not particularly malicious, but capable of being unremarkable and clichè-ish in every possible way. The massive dose of Emmerichian CGI with RTX bloom and signature overdone scenes definitely didn't help, it always felt awkwardly inauthentic. It would be a solid eight out of ten on the Michael Bay scale though.

Knives Out - 8/10

Sherlock Holmes is dead, long live Daniel Craig! A pleasant surprise, it filled the doughnut's hole with above-average writing, quality directing and competent acting from everyone. It's comedic but...at the same time, it really isn't, since there's always suspense or some mini-twist to spice things up. I had figured out the masterplan pretty early on, but the movie still managed to be engaging thanks to how the pieces fit together and to all the hilariously unique characters' reactions and antics.

-0.5 for the tooth scene Laughing That was very unsettling (I hate going to dentists lol) and I think it was unnecessary.

I didn't like the first half. They should have turned it into a pure drama without stupid "comedic" elements.

Just saw the trailer and I didn't find it any funny to be honest. I'm not sure am I missing something but it looks just like a random parody movie.

Ah, yeah. I watched it over a year ago. It was a fairly fun romping zombie movie.

I got the vibes it is based on a novel and wasn't very wrong (it is a visual novel). However the visual novel is supposed to be worse in terms of story :/ It's usually the other way around Laughing

I think the movie is a strong 8/10 from me, but i'm a biased sucka for post-apo so a grain of salt is recommended.

Anyway, thanks again Leo

Now watch this, get your mind blown, and watch the movie again Very Happy

My goodness O_o Sounds absurd at first but the author actually makes some good points.

Cheers. I haven't read the novel, but I've heard it's substantially different in story and tone. I think it served as an inspiration for the premise and the general plot setting, but the movie seems far superior.

Yeah, exactly. Movies like this are very much my cup of tea.

Midway - hangover/10

Had a hangover and couldn't think straight. The movie was perfect for a day like that Laughing
Seriously though, CGI was atrocious, acting (with exceptions like Woody or Quaid) mostly laughable and the "story" made history behind the battle seem like another world. Although the movie did show quite a number of us planes go down Laughing

JoJo Rabbit 8.5/10

What a great movie. Before watching it (and knowing almost nothing about it), I thought it would be more of a parody retelling of WWII with children, but it turns out to be more like La Vita e Bella (not sure if this counts as a spoiler).

Actually, I thought this was a lot better than La Vita e Bella. Surely a lot funnier (in the beginning, at least) and when it hits, it hits like a train.

I thought the first half was hilarious, btw, and reminded me a lot of Wes Anderson.
Scarlett Johansson was also really good in this.

It starred Mckenna Grace and since I liked her in Gifted, I decided to give this movie a go.
It's a heartwarming movie about a little outcast girl who wants to get on the Voyager's golden record and in the process makes new friends. Smile

Ip Man 4 - 7/10

A good ending to the series and with Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins you can't really go wrong. It's not the top biopic or fighting movie but as I said, Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins + you get the final piece of the Ip Man story.

Jojo Rabbit - 8,5 actual German shepherds/10

It's rare to find a movie that provides both brilliant satire and dramatic moments without feeling like an awkward oddball, but based Taika pulled it off. He truly is a treasure, with that aura of coziness and hue manatee that always makes ideas or adaptations stand out in a refreshing way. His sneaky sassy Adolfo was brilliant, but the whole cast did a superb job at keeping the multi-faceted tone believable, especially the kids and their candid way of seeing things despite the negative external influences (Yorki just cracked me up Very Happy). Simple, but with a lot of heart and never banal, definitely recommended. *offers a cigarette*

Parasite - 7.5/10
Enjoyable but IMO very exaggerated with the topic it tried to discuss. The overacting of the Korean actors didn't help. In the end I didn't know what the moral of the movie was. The last second character twist was to inhumane to be believable. Wouldn't give it the Oscar.

Jesus, Waldo, brush up on your reading comprehension. You always misread Laughing Where did I say the comedy was not funny? I said there was less of it than usual in his movies.
I found it more.
Shadows. Wilder people. Ragnarok had loads of comedy but not all hit the mark for me. Pretty much all the jokes here got the laughs for how ridiculous they were. So ratio of jokes to laughs this had more to me than his previous work.

Reading comprehension is there. It's just lacking the proper clear response. Awesome

This is how you make a proper remake. Everything that was bad about the original (which isn't scary at all), has been improved here. Leatherface is actually damn scary in this one. It's really bloody as well, apparently it was gorier but had to be cut down in order to receive an R-rating.

I felt he watched a lot of pacino for the role and did a great job making himself a believable trainwreck, one of the better films this year.

Baby Driver 8/10

Top form Wright. Just like all his previous movies, it's all about the style and themes, not about the story itself. Shaun as a story is as basic as it gets. Fuzz is about as dumb as it can possibly be when it comes to story and character motivations. Only seen World's End once and I'm hazy on the details, but I don't remember enjoying it because it had gripping, well developed story and characters.

If you sit down to watch Baby Driver for the love of music and the signature "Wright stuff", you'll have a great time.

Uncut Jew-els - 8 / 10

Best Sandler performance ever and a really relentless and frantic movie, it's slightly over two hours long and yet it breezes by so quickly. I gotta say it's one of the jewest movies I've ever seen, all the way down to the characters and their "jobs". Certain two characters made me feel like their existence itself was racist, they looked like some of Göbbels horrible propaganda caricatures or something out of Jud Süß Laughing

Charlie's Angels (2019) 2/10

Or maybe the better title would be "Smug faced empowerment trip". This was a long 2 hours and I had to pause the movie numerous times in order for it to be bearable.

Was cringy from the start with the awkward discussion seen in the trailers about what women should do and then after the fight scene cutting to random girls/women playing, learning and doing sports...like what the fuck?

And don't even get me started on the end credit scenes. Laughing

Really people don't torture yourself with this...it is cringy, boring and makes no sense when you get to the "twist" of the movie.
