Modding tools for a good game is never "too late". Morrowind modding is still going strong, for example.

It would have helped the game much, MUCH more if the SDK would have been there from the start, at game launch, or at least soon after launch.

In time, any game loses visibility and popularity. Especially one that doesn't have a massive replay value (as a TES game, for example).

Kinda. It's a bit annoying, a woman with a sword you feel like a cripple, really there should be more quests in the kitchen.

Also the mines are annoying.

So, is the game any good especially story-wise? Should I get it if I love Witcher games? I hate melee fighting though and I always play casters if I can, my Geraldo was practically Raistling Majere Laughing

The tech is a bit messy and not just performance wise but some of the gameplay and things like combat and mechanics can be a bit clunky though I enjoyed the game itself but it takes a while to get used to how it works and well I did end up with several mods for various conveniences and ease of actually playing the game like the removal of helmet overlays on the screen and the alcohol of saving just being something you can do whenever instead of item reliance for how easily the game used to just crash or a quest could bug out or get stuck.

Combat requires some time too especially early game but once you find the trainer of game breaking combo moves and do some stuff to learn said moves it becomes a lot more manageable if not outright broken at least when fighting solo although arrows are also surprisingly effective even against armored opponents.

Social stuff, quests, sim elements and reputation can make or break the experience too even without buggy stuff like everyone of X faction suddenly hating you for no reason.
(Melee of merchants for example and you don't even have to steal anything though it can escalate things if the faction and rep system really acts up.)

EDIT: In short it's quite a undertaking and accomplishment but I wonder if they wouldn't have needed more time and money and probably a better choice of game engine really but somehow they kinda pulled it off and by now it's fairly patched up but things can still act up so it's best to do the usual RPG method of saving often and keep back ups. Smile

For what it is it's also a bit divisive whether you will enjoy the game or will feel a bit hindered by the simulator elements that range from basic gear maintenance to how characters react to what you wear to having to actually clean up and managing various other elements while hoping to get along with the NPC's and however these might go about their business.

Early game especially can be a bit tough and Henry's the son of a blacksmith with no real skills though getting lucky can net you some decent arms and armor very early on instead of being a walking target to every hostile in the area of which there's quite a few.

I couldn't really get into it due to the complex and really difficult melee, it's not like any other game. It's probably possible to get good if you practice for days, which wasnt something i was interested in.

I like almost everything else. It's a slow game though, it takes hours upon hours before it opens up, that part really sucked, imo (the story itself isnt bad but not amazing either).

There's a counter move you learn once you find the trainer / tutorial man for combat (Not the prologue guy giving you the basics.) and can either do some work for him or just spar to learn the mechanics bit, allows you to get in some reversal after blocking with a very generous window of input so it really makes a difference though it's almost a crutch for the melee system overall where you'll just rely on this move to end fighting although some practice and getting weapons or archery skill up also helps.

Solid pick or hammer will also work on most armor types though group combat can be really messy and clunky with the targeting thus why just shooting the hostiles with a bow is a bit of a thing.

Or trying to learn the combat system and fighting fair but that does take a lot more time for how to swing and openings and blocking or parrying over just counter and stab until dead.

Yeah, just continue the main story line a bit until Captain Bernard trains you in Rattay.

I didn't do this on my first play through and decided to just go fuck off and explore after waking up from the prologue.

Though I did have fun running around without any training, but kept dying haha. Once I underwent training, things just turned super easy except for 1 v 3 fights.

I just started it a few weeks ago and I'm absolutely loving it. Many above me have outlined the pros, cons, fixes, and advice pretty well.

Mods help. There's a lot of mods out there (I only use a couple). But play some, and find out what annoys you most... there's probably a mod to fix it. Example: if you hate running into a trader with only 20 coin when you have a hoarder's bounty to unload, there's a mod for that. Hate the helmet view? Mod it. Want a reticle for your bow? Mod it.

Grab the DLCs too. I grabbed the dog at the miller's (had no clue it was an add on) and have had a blast hunting with him and having him chase down and tackle fleeing bandits. Yeah, you gotta feed him, praise him, and overall take care of him... in a game where you gotta eat, sleep, wash, etc., it fits right in. The Band of Bastards was fun too (but be prepared to melee a lot... more on combat below). The DLCs pretty much for in with the overall story (some won't even open up until you reach certain points in the main quest).

I *still* have not trained melee combat with Bernard. Well only what was required for the quest to advance. Instead, I've found as much stealth clothing as I could, learned good stealth, and learned the bow. I'm pretty good with bow on horseback now and try to always avoid melee fights if I can (usually can). I've been slowly acquiring good armor and some good melee weapons, so I do plan to give training a go, with a goal of winning the tournament.

But for right now, my Henry has become a silent assassin, hunting down bandits with his trusty mutt. And it's just a shit ton of fun.

And what if CODEX sends them Cease and Desist order for using their idea? Laughing

inb4 Timmay-exclusive Kingdom Come II built on UE4 Failed Troll

All joking aside (or not), I was expecting the modding scene for the game to be considerably busier, but alas no one has really bothered with the official tools in a meaningful way thus far. It's a shame since there are quite a few things that could be tweaked/improved, although the game is already a great and memorable experience.
