The combat is hectic run, try to shoot super fast enemies, glory kill them, jump, double jump, chainsaw them with constant red screen and low ammo, low health glaring alerts (I know I can disable it but the game is just so fast I can't focus on tiny health and armor info in the corner of the screen). I don't have that feeling of badassness from previous game too.
Playing on Hard.

This game is fucking beautiful for a fast paced shooter. Not just the graphics themselves, love the art direction as well. The sound design is very good too, and not just the music.

And half of you aren't even buying it anyway, so why bother Razz

Just pray that Bethesda doesn't find a way to block the DRM-free .exe login access and start deleting accounts, that would probably render this version useless as you wouldn't be able to get past the login screen anymore... So it's probably best to enjoy it while we can Very Happy

Did you have enough chainsaw fuel as it will only kill bigger enemies when fueled up.

Yeah. There's something off with the combat loop that leaves it unsatisfying for me.

This is not a shooter, this is a glory kill simulator.

There's something very wrong with the optimization. I tried the lowest settings at 1440p and it barely stays at 110fps.

Are you playing on Steam? Apparently Steams fps counter tanks the performance, gotta turn it off.

The constant need to chainsaw -> ammo; glory-kill-> health; wait for fuel refill, chainsaw-> ammo; glory-kill -> health; repeat, etc. ruins the experience.

I'll give this a few hours more today, to see if either I get used to it or if it gets better with time. Otherwise its a refund for me too. Sad

Its sad because the music and the atmosphere are awesome and I really wanted another Doom. Sad I want to shoot, not glory-kill.

i think you just have to get used to abusing the glory kill mechanic if you want to play doom, otherwise its going to be very painful, literally.
what they should do is replace the mechanic with accurate critical hits using whatever weapon you want instead of press-button-to-do-thang spawning health and ammo. but what i do i know about gameplay, i love me some horribly repetitive kill animations that slow gameplay down immensely Laughing

They really fucked up with the lack of ammo in the world, all part of going full retard with the well received always forward ever in the thick of it combat from 2016.

I imagine combat will get better once you've upgraded ammo slot capacity, but that's gonna be a long way off.

Also how did Doomguy end up in his fortress? Seems like we're missing a huge gap between what happened in 2016 and Eternal.

Just "activate" by logging in and going to the main menu.
Then exit and block both exe's in your firewall to enable "offline" play.
This prevents all updates and login requirements, unless it's timebombed.

Would have purchased this for 35€ but I have to agree with y'all, I want to shoot and not glory-kill / chainsaw-kill. Kinda takes the wind out of sails.

Disable any overlays. Steam, Riva Tuner, whatever...
Use the in-game frame rate display instead.

The rendered is highly optimized and any interference causes weird stalls.

I've installed on my crappy notebook to see how well it performs, but I can't seem to get past the login screen, it always throws an error about the online crap and never let me login (it seems they have already blocked the online features already). On my main PC it's working fine since I created a dummy account and was playing shortly after the release

But I've gotta say, the game is great but after playing for a while I realised that all the glory kill spaming and the low ammo capacity does feel retarded

I'm on a third map now with some upgrades to how much ammo you can carry but on Ultra-Violent that doesn't change much. You will run out of ammo and you have to glory kill on every oportunity.
And the map is just arena fight after arena fight intertwined with some corridor shooting and then finding how to get the secret or extra life. The fights on Ultra-Violent are crazy hectic, you will die in 2 - 3 shots and usually because you will run into wall or something and get swarmed. Cacademon can kill you in two bites, in one place I just got stuck between a crate and wall and lost 4 lifes.
The craziness of the fight doesn't really allow you to "do the ballet", you just shoot what weapon with ammo you still get trying to remember which button is shotgun to grenade stun that fucking Cacademon while you are shot at by Mancubus, Doot, Hell Knight and Arachrotron at the same time. As I wrote you don't feel like that angry motherfucking badass from 2016. I feel like a guy on Angel Dust.

It's fun game - I would say 8/10 right where I'm now but they overdid it. My mind is so preoccupied by trying to comprehend wtf is happening on the screen that I don't even register the music.

And the story - I don't know wtf is going, why am I where I am and why I'm doing what I'm doing. If someone hasn't played the previous one won't totally know anything. You had to play DooM 2016 to comprehend a little bit of who is who.
Story is secondery in DooM I know but still. Drop it or at least make it coherent. There is almost no humor from the previous one or cool descriptions of demons and weapons. It's fucking grim now.

Every crossed swords is an arena fight.
