It's a thing, at least it's not something like a countdown or little game to the teaser before the actual proper trailer.
Far as retarded goes I'd say that fits better with the fast food "Gamer" consumables although I suppose it's only a small step up from the merchandising and brand including fashion and toys and what not.
...Butter bangles.
But tie ins like that are old as hell from Final Fantasy coca cola to adverts (Mmm paper cup cheap instant noodles.) and in the West well "Gamer Fuel" type food and various bottle codes and what not.
Hah maximum milking I guess.
I do wonder what the actual reveal trailer will be though not this little teaser although said teaser is probably a better indicative of in-game presentation than some highly scripted cinematic showpiece.
At least it's not some E3 presentation so it won't be "Real time" engine footage almost CGI and then the in-game actual visual presentation is a bit different.
Engine certainly was capable for it's time though, early variants of ambient occlusion, motion blur and all kinds of effects might have been surpassed but the game held up almost until the PBR introduction in video games.
(Well other than the mid 2000's calculation on single threaded CPU scaling being a big change but that hit a lot of games and game engines.)
Suppose there's also the fact that EA or Crytek reigned in support from game to game.
First Crysis had source data and a full SDK and from there it went to a level editor and then nothing at all.
Community made some pretty amazing content as a result and then just maps and various mods and file editing much smaller in scope and nothing at all as Crytek even added signature checks and encryption on the archives.
Saber Interactive, who have previously remastered Halo and Ghostbusters, and have ported The Witcher 3 to Switch to much acclaim, are handling the updated version.
Crytek announces Crysis Remastered
Crytek to release a remaster of Crysis 1 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch this summer
Thursday, April 16, 2020 — The classic first person shooter is back with the action-packed gameplay, sandbox world, and thrilling epic battles players loved the first time around – with remastered graphics and optimizations for a new generation of hardwareco-developed on CRYENGINE with Saber Interactive. Starting this summer, Crysis Remastered will be available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and for Nintendo Switch.
Crysis Remastered will focus on the original game’s single-player campaigns and is slated to containhigh-quality textures and improved art assets, an HD texture pack, temporal anti-aliasing, SSDO, SVOGI, state-of-the-art depth fields, new light settings, motion blur, and parallax occlusion mapping, particle effects will also be added where applicable. Further additions such as volumetric fog and shafts of light, software-based ray tracing, and screen space reflections provide the game with a major visual upgrade.
“We are excited to be working on the Crysis franchise again, and to bring all the Crysis fans a remaster worthy of their passion for the game,” said Crytek CEO Avni Yerli. “It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to bring Crysis back to PCs and current consoles – even Nintendo Switch! – so that a whole new generation of players can experience the thrill of a battle in the Nanosuit.”
In Crysis 1, what begins as a simple rescue mission becomes the battleground of a new war as alien invaders swarm over a North Korean island chain. Armed with a powerful Nanosuit, players can become invisible to stalk enemy patrols, or boost strength to lay waste to vehicles. The Nanosuit’s speed, strength, armor, and cloaking allow creative solutions for every kind of fight, while a huge arsenal of modular weaponry provides unprecedented control over play style. In the ever-changing environment, adapt tactics and gear to dominate your enemies, in an enormous sandbox world.

...The 1990's shafts of light anime style censoring of naughty bits aside.
Guess we're no longer calling those things god-rays but I suppose light-beams, sun beams or anything else was better but that one just stuck somehow.

Instead of going full raytracing to melt pcs like back when crysis released.. the rt implwmentation will be pathetic most likely used for reflections on limited surfaces just like their crappy neon ‘rt’ demo.

If you don't like advanced shader effects in Crysis then what's the point. Crysis is renowned for its bleeding edge motion blur effect, especially under DX10, it put all other games to shame for years to come.

Lost Planet, released a year before, had a better implementation.

Why would it go that route?!
Funny memes aside, that bullshit called 'optimization' from Crysis should never happen again. It was officially stated from Crytek that it was simply BAD.

Need to see that 'software-based ray tracing' in action. I guess this is not anymore a 'The Way It's Meant to be Played' game, which is a good thing. nVidia had it's share of fun and money all these past years. Time for some changes...
Spent lots of time on their forums while testing their editor(s) years ago. Asked a lot of questions about the editor's functionality, got a lot of answers and also a lot of input from developers that worked on the first and second game.
Needless to say, Crysis 1's optimization (compared to Crysis 2) was out the window...

no implementation of camera and blur effects has always been the best experience.

That was another game with a standout implementation, though I seem to remember it wasn't better, it had more artifacts.
But the point remains even if there was an exception

Crysis 2 was design optimized more than the engine itself was optimized. Once they added the DX11 features, it was slow pig again.
Once they added cutting edge features it was slow again? Really? Who would have thought.
The engine was way more optimized, even allowed Crysis 1 to make it to consoles.
