Ni No Kuni 1 Wrath of the White Witch

better than the first game but having played through it yeah it's not a very lengthy game but it's greatly padded out by the amount of exposition and very lengthy dialogue in almost every cutscene often followed by tutorials and repeat explanations for what to do.

Has some grinding but without the town building stuff from Ni No Kuni 2 it's actually not too bad although you do have a small collection of creatures to level up and improve but it's a pretty quick affair.

Art style and gameplay and such feels similar to the second game but I'd say it works better here although the amount of dialogue gets pretty draining even as a fan of role playing games including text heavy titles such as Planescape.

That game had driving and interesting stories though here it's mostly explanations and mixing up various puns and dialect jokes in-between major story moments.

Or to wrap up this little text wall a conversation can run upwards of ten minutes for a very quick action such as opening a door and the game loves little mini quests or challenges in between the main dungeons and set pieces and even more exposition for these. Very Happy

Also WTF Drippy I thought we were going around grabbing a piece of heart to fix stuff not a piece of ass!

(Should have taken a screenshot but eh MooTube - Yay more pun! - works.)

Well I suppose someone in Ni No Kuni 1 has a bit of character and personality if nothing else. ~

On that note Oliver also ruins many a dramatic moment (Or all of them really.) with the completely tonally and emotionally dead delivery of his own "Jeepers" usage which kinda takes all suspense way out of any and every scene.

Trails of Cold Steel 3

Well so far this third game has been a bit of a downer compared to the Trails in the Sky series almost like a re-threading of Cold Steel 1 although the plot is (Ever so slowly!) moving forward and much of this game seem to be once again geared on world and especially character building but it's getting a bit much now so no wonder Falcom promised to keep it shorter in the future. Very Happy

Three games running building up more and more of Rean and his Erebonian (Which is absolutely not Prussia.) school harem and some political antics and tropes. (It's the oblivious protagonist, again!)

You know it's been running for a while when not even some of the male cast is safe from Rean and he even got friendly with the cat.

It's fine though.

(Unrelated but fitting.)

Apparently the third game should have been the end of it but then it dragged on and even leaving the limits of handheld platforms behind (The characters have 3D ears now!) well it was still a bit too lengthy so it'll all be resolved in a year as Cold Steel 4 launches on consoles (This year for the English version.) and PC (Next year but probably a decent port again.) so yeah time to try and remember something like one and a half decades worth of storytelling and buildup for that finale. Very Happy

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Ubisoft and experimentation with ideas which yeah it didn't work and I doubt it will without a massive not-really-happening overhaul of the entire game (The last patch well it tried but not enough.) kinda stupid really taking some remote island and threatening drone warfare but then it's a remote island so either just nuke or emp and done ha ha.

Or this one bearded man that worked too but now there's witnesses to all sorts of behaviors that border on war crimes instead same as Wildlands. ~
Oh you won't give up the info how about some rape to go with your lifetime prison sentence... Man Bowman was kinda funny at least much as it's kinda dark at times. Very Happy
(Guess it fits with the supposed very dark Nordic humor going on around here.)

Also in the backlog!

Monster Hunter World - Capcom has some ten year plan for that though however it'll work out (Or won't.) so it's on the backburner.

Zwei and Zwei 1 - Puns and punishment as Falcom decided difficulty builds character so these get really tough even above something like the Ys games although less reliant on movement and more about ... food based leveling and eating for experience??

Code Vein - Finally patched up and mostly just the extra epilogue stuff, might be dark souls with more anime and boob themes but it wasn't that bad although the level design could be a bit better.
Then again I've cleared Compile Heart and Idea Factory games and while some can be good the fan service and vague mechanics can really be a downer so most everything else seems fine in comparison!

Red Dead Redemption 2 - Going full GTA V here so another two - three years of patches and it might be ready, still going to clear it ahead of GTA VI launching on PC I guess. Razz

Borderlands 3 - Probably next up whenever I clear Trails of Cold Steel, looks to be in a good state now and if not well there's always Cheat Engine heh heh.

Atelier...lots of them!
GUST and Koei Tecmo can not into PC porting although at least it's playable (Somewhat, somehow.) but the tech issues just gets worse though somehow also better (???) getting mouse input and keyboard controls down and breaking...weird stuff that shouldn't be doable with D3D11
(We oopsed the PCI Express bus transfers so the game constantly stutters and risks crashing...HOW??!!)

(Also on the console versions, excellent job there!)

Fun games though but both a gameplay mechanical grind and a bit of a software stability grind having to back up save data and avoid all kinds of tech problems. ~

Postal 4 yeah they managed to bounce back with more Postal 2 updates after some mess-up with the third game (Which doesn't actually exist or something. ~ ) but it's still in early access so that's going to take a while longer to see if RWS still has some form or of it'll fall on simple memes and semi offensive jokes.

Lots of older games as I try clearing the existing backlog but it's going to take a while.

EDIT: Yeah that's a bit of text.

Ni No Kuni 1 - Not So Punny, wrapped it up.
Cold Steel 3 - Fantasy Prussia harem sim, wrapping it up.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint - Droning on but wrapped it eventually.

Borderlands 3 as the next larger game on the list and still a lengthy backlog of older games!
(Red Dead Redemption 2 at whatever point it gets done getting patched up enough.)

DOOM Eternal as well come to think of it, short but fun although the Rock, Paper, Double-Shotgun routine and the whole Mario platforming ehh not my thing but it was OK and when it got going it was really fun too. Smile
(Oh I'm sorry the Hell Priest is in another fortress...)

EDIT: Bah this needs some more editing.

EDIT: There.

Played some Arx Fatalis (with Arx Libertatis mod / latest dev. snaphot) yesterday.

Good stuff. Smile

Almost gave up on it at some point, because it had no quest arrows. Laughing Facepalm

Haha yeah, the exploration throughout all the caves and crypts can be quite hardcore from what I remember, some of the side quests are pretty obscure as well. It's definitely one of the most atmospheric RPGs out there though - and innovative also in the way it deals with spellcasting and basic crafting. Arx Libertatis is indeed an absolute must, I wish more old classics could receive the same godly treatment.

I'm playing Assassin's Creed 3 (Remastered) as well as Trine at the moment. Never got in to AC until Origins which lead me to Syndicate then Odyssey came out and since I bought the season pass (great value btw, assuming you like Ubi games) 3 remastered was part of that. Nearly done with that (on sequence 12) so I think Witcher 3 or RDR2 will be next before I move on to another AC game in the backlog - would be nice to know what they have up their sleeves for AC Vikings/Ragnarok SP so I know to wait for any potential remaster.

Trine popped in to my head recently, I think I only ever played 1 (thank you Humble Bundle back when you were decent) and I found a good deal on a disc only Ultimate collection for $8 - I figure a couple levels a day will keep my brain busy while stuck at home.

It's kind of funny that I have Control to finish as well as BL3, SWFO, and Breakpoint to even start yet I'm playing 8 and 11 year old games...

Moving through Anno 1800 ever so slowly.

ALL of you, you are way to needy!

"We want a bar."
Alright have a bar then.
"Soap please."
So the pig farm here, sausage mystery meat factory here and pig de-fat fabric here and soap land here.
"We want god!"
WTF you wanted a bar now you want a church?
"Beer, NOW!"
WTH you already have the bar what's the difference??

"We're protesting now also the housings are on fire and the steel factory exploded from another accident."

Let's just make this easy and simple to follow here.

I am the boss of you!

Going the nostalgia part mostly here.. After finishing PERSONA 5 ROYAL , Ori 2 and something else i don't remember, i started with GOG's QUAKE

Not sure if the expansions for the original QUAKE brings more to the story or not, but sometimes i get lost a tiny bit, specially the 4th episode.

Hopefully that changes for QUAKE 2 and 4 (I already finished 3, but i want to revisit the 4th one for once)

Then i might play RESIDENT EVIL 4 HD (PC).. That or search for other GOG oldies but goldies.. It has to be games i've never got able to finish 'em back then, be it PC specs, be it story.. I'm not the type to repeat the same game once beaten once (Unless ya need a 2nd play like PERSONA 5's Platinum Trophy (P5R required 1)

Any recommendations for a decent platformer from the last year or two? I was thinking about Trine 4 but its more set up for co-op so I don't know about that. Anything else decent worth giving a go?

Definitely Ori 2, you can't go wrong with that. Trine 4 is actually enjoyable in single player too, though the series is indeed more geared towards co-op.

If you don't mind some more challenge (and the full-Metroidvania formula) Hollow Knight is an absolute must-play. Blasphemous is worth playing also. On the other side of the spectrum, if you want something both relaxing and pretty unique Yoku's Island Express is another good addition in my opinion. I'd have more candidates to add but they're 2+ years old Razz

Oh thanks man I'll give some of those a look.

I already tried Ori 2 but I have this weird audio glitch every so often that sounds like your PC has crashed. It's jarring as fuck. I saw someone else here report the same thing.

I'll give the other games a look though.

For singleplayer only ARMA 3 comes to mind from recent years. However, there are plenty of older games to choose from: SWAT 4, Ghost Recon (GRAW 1&2), Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, etc.

If you are interested in multiplayer, there's a broader market of newer games: Squad, Hell Let Loose, Post Scriptum, Rainbow Six: Siege, Insurgency: Sandstorm, etc.

ARMA basically has all the tactical shit you could ever want in mods, the only problem is you have to bring your frame rate with you.

Tarkov is a top option for PVP, tactical approach works great (bring a friend unless you are good). This game ain't cheap however.
Insurgency is also great, albeit slightly more in a team deathmatch format. usually play coop on this one.
