Denuvo can analyze every crack, and fix the exploits, sooner or later.
What's the point of protecting the crack then ?

It became clear Denuvo couldn't find how the cracks were breaching their DRM. After the NFS:Heat there are no more Denuvo cracked games yet. Only Doom Eternal has it but it was accidentally released without protection and was quickly cracked.

Did the scene protect their cracks using some encryption?

Denuvo is notably ex-scene and encryption remains encryption, even with the strongest means of unlocking it, it will stand done properly. Moreso, if scene managed to break Denuvo's protection before, then who's the "best" ? - imo, they are equivalent, only Denuvo has larger means.
It's more likely that the leak fucked them up for a good amount of time rather that they lost interest all of a sudden imho - when they were doing experiments with completely removing Denuvo for AC Odyssey, for instance.
They might have lost this motivation or chose to ghost because of this inner leak as well, that's plausible.
It's all speculation though, of course

Yes they do, except for the NFS crack (I guess cuz it was a test / debug crack).
